Inappropriate Song?

Quote:

Tampa, Florida - Like most Bucs fans, Bob Corry says he enjoyed Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints at Raymond James Stadium. Everything, except a song played over the stadium's loudspeakers at halftime.

Bob Corry, Offended By Song:
"The first song that I hear is 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' by The Scorpions and I thought to myself, 'Is it me, or is this just totally out of place and inappropriate?'"

The Bucs cheerleaders began their halftime show dancing to the song and Corry says he thought it showed a lack of sensitivity, considering what New Orleans residents went through last year following Hurricane Katrina.
Even I wouldn't play that song at a New Orleans Saints game...

Rest of the story here.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-06-2006 10:18 AM

Puh-LEEZE! Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore? I would laugh my ass off at that.

Stanford band has gotten into trouble for far-too-appropriate half time shows, as in potato famine jokes at the Fightin' Irish and spotted owl jokes in Oregon. I think everyone takes themselves far too seriously.

Gemini Cricket 01-06-2006 10:30 AM

I'm offended because I heard CoasterMatt broke wind while posting this thread. That's insensitve to the Hurricane Katrina victims.

:D

Kevy Baby 01-06-2006 10:35 AM

Now I have Spinal Tap's "Break Like the Wind" running through my head.

Not Afraid 01-06-2006 10:41 AM

You know, just because you THINK something is inappropriate doesn't mean it is. And just because something IS inapporpriate doesn't mean you have the right to be offended. Of course, you may choose to be offended, but I'm not sure anyone will care.

I'm not sure if I am reading this correctly, but one DOES have the right to be offended about anything they so desire (and bitch about it if they like). But just because one is offended doesn't mean that something automatically be done about it.

So one can be offended. And one (such as I and others) can not be offended and think the world needs to lighten up.

Such a wonderful world!

Isaac 01-06-2006 10:59 AM

I would have come up with a whole disaster themed playlist.

Madonna - Drowned World
Heavenly Gospel Singers - Watery Grave
The Beatles - Help
Julie London - Cry Me A River
Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On

This could be fun!

CoasterMatt 01-06-2006 11:03 AM

Just because I think it might be an inappropriate song, doesn't mean I didn't laugh my ass off when I first read the story. :D

We just watched This Is Spinal Tap last night, too...

You are absolutely right and I worded that wrong. You can be offended about anything you like, however, that doesn't mean anyone will care. Or, even more appropriately, it doesn't mean I have to respond. Is that better?

Don't Drink the Water ~ DMB

SacTown Chronic 01-06-2006 11:23 AM

I'm doing a nativity scene in my front yard next December and Nine Inch Nail's "Closer" will be played on a continuous loop.

Hehe, yeah. I'd go a step further - You can be offended about anything you like, however, I have the right to make fun of you for having a hair up your ass about it. :D

Capt Jack 01-06-2006 11:37 AM

I am highly offended by the words offensive, hurricane and think.

My attorney will be in touch. :p

scaeagles 01-06-2006 11:37 AM

Didn't UC Northridge want to change their mascot to "The Quakes" and rename their basketball arena "The Epicenter"? I thought that was great, but it was shot down by the same "inappropriate and offended" crowd.

Great! Now that song's stuck in my head. And I know they won't let me sing that aloud at work.
:D

I used to have a neighbor that would call the police anytime I played that song really loudly... :D

Not Afraid 01-06-2006 12:08 PM

I love working at home. ;)

SzczerbiakManiac 01-06-2006 02:12 PM

Next December I want to put up a Naïveté Scene in front of my home. Does anyone know some good Atheist Carols I can play to accompany it?

Actually, a minor league baseball team in Rancho Cucamonga, CA is what you are thinking of. The did in fact call themselves the Quakes and did indeed name their stadium The Epicenter. The mascot's name is Tremblor. They are a farm club for the Anaheim Angels.

We lived in RC when they opened this stadium. Nice place.

And the stadium where the Mighty Ducks (hockey) play is called the Pond. As in "Duck Pond"

Gn2Dlnd 01-07-2006 02:37 AM

And the stadium where the L.A. Galaxy (football, er, soccer) plays is called the Home Depot Center. Neither of which makes any sense whatsoever. (although the supporters group is called The Riot Squad. Reginald Denny anyone?)

MickeyLumbo 01-07-2006 08:00 AM

on behalf of dear Reggie, i'm offended.

do they play "Brick House" at half-time?

i agree, coastermatt. "Rock you like a hurricane" was a bit over the top of decency and compassion. this was a half-time show, for cryin' out loud.

perhaps a more appropriate, crowd participation, good ol'-fashion singin' in-the-round of "Row Row Row Your Boat" would have put a smile on everyone's face.

CoasterMatt 01-08-2006 01:27 PM

Anything by Katrina and the Waves would have been far more appropriate

Prudence 01-09-2006 03:00 PM

I think it would be far more appropriate to offer residents of the city an opportunity to reflect on the error of their ways that surely led to their watery smiting. Might I suggest: "Sit down, you're rocking the boat"?
