Snowflake at Disneyland Meet - Friday, March 3rd

Our very own Snowflake will be hitting So Cal and, specifically Disneyland, on Friday March 3rd.

We are going to spend the entire day in the Park since she hasn't been to DL since the late 70's. That means that we're going to pack in several years worth of Disney goodness into one short day.

Join us if you can either for a day of fun (and not standing in front of bathrooms) or join us in the evening for dinner, Remember viewing followed by Fantasmic then followed by drinks in the AP Lounge.

I remember when Chris and I first returned to Disneyland after and long hiatus and what fun it was. I can't wait to experience this with Snowflake.

So, mark your calendars and join us!:snap:

Prudence 01-18-2006 12:00 AM

Ride the Space Mountain for me, Snowflake! You've got some great park guides lined up!

(Although a small faux bathroom line might be amusing in its own way. Maybe if things get really crowded mid-day?)

Snowflake 01-18-2006 04:29 AM

I gotta remember to bring my camera. I think it will be the highlight of the trip! I only hope I can keep up with NA!

Ghoulish Delight 01-18-2006 08:58 AM

A post-work trip to Anaheim may very well be in order.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-18-2006 02:06 PM

We're so there with the Friday night AP rush. I can't imagine what your trip will be like!

Snowflake, I'd love it if you posted your memories of DL from when you were last there!

I'll be there all day - I gotta be there for this one :D

Well, this particualr trip to DL was a day trip for me and a cousin visiting from CT. My parents put us on a plane from San Jose and I'm assuming we landed in Orange County. I remember taking a cab to Disneyland, which was pretty exciting in itself. The cab dropped us at the Disneyland Hotel and we rode the monorail in to the park (the first time I'd ever done that). When the family made trips we stayed at a place I recall being named The Whaler Inn.

This visit was in September, before school started for the year, and apparently after school started in LA. I remember this only because we were there on a weekday and the park was empty.

Space Mountain was a new ride and we did have a bit of a wait for it, and I remember it was fabulously fast. But, for me, the best part of the trip was a never ending ride on the Matterhorn. There was NO ONE, so we would get on, then go around the queue and get right back on. Finally after the 3rd or 4th time, the CM just let us stay on. We rode, it had to have been 8 times and I loved every second of it!

I remember my cousin hating the Mr. Toad ride and loving the Rocket Jets. I loved cooling down in the movie theater on Main Street and watching Roscoe Arbuckle and Chaplin in The Rounders and Mickey Steamboat Willie. Then heading over to Sunkist for the best damn orange juice!

I also loved Adventures Thru Inner Space and feeling of cold in there as we were shrinking. I can still remember Paul Frees voice narrating it. I also remember being taken aback some years later when I was watching George Steven's film A Place in the Sun and catching that voice, at the end, as George goes off to the death chamber, a chill went up my spine when I recognized the voice!

We rode Pirates several times, had the boat to ourselves. Same with Haunted Mansion. We also ran around Tom Sawyer Island and I remember still being able to squeeze through some of the caves. David could not, much taller than me! We ate at Tahitian Terrace and also saw the Enchanted Tiki Room and rode the jungle cruise. The Tiki Room always has a warm spot in my heart. My Mom loved it and re-created it on the patio back home, except the birds were not animatronic. It was kitchsy as all hell, but still fun.

The thing I remember about this trip, a day of jumbled memories and fun, but moe than that, this feeling we had the park to ourselves. It seemed that un-crowded. It was a fabulous day in the park. We monorailed back to the hotel, took a cab and flew home.

I'm bumping this since the date is getting closer.

Those of us able to join us during the daytime, please do! Otherwise, join us after work on Friday to see Fireworks, Fantasmic and ride Pirates one more time before it is pillaged and plundered.

innerSpaceman 02-16-2006 12:19 PM

Oh, I am soooo sad that I won't be able to be there the whole day. Bah.

I will certainly make it for the evening festivities!

Ghoulish Delight 02-16-2006 12:22 PM

It all depends on how exhausting a day of training + a flight from San Jose are.

Not Afraid 02-16-2006 07:14 PM

Exhaustion, pishaw! I'm going to DL with a pratical newbie! I'm the one who's going to be claiming exhaustion!

Call in sick

Snowflake 02-17-2006 08:54 AM

Okay gang, should I buy my ticket for March 3rd now, online with Disney or should I wait until I am in town or at the gate? A single day, park hopper apears to be in order, am I right? Happily, hopping is only a metaphor.

I don't think Lisa has anything to worry about, I may well wear out long before she does. I'm hitting urgent care tonight on the way home, I seem to have a tendonitis or bursitis issue with my left foot and am barely hobbling around the office in significant pain. My doctor friend advised I go tonight and I shall. Neither Advil nor Bayer are doing anything to reduce the swelling or lessen the discomfort at the moment. If I have to be on crutches, I'll be hobbling through the park!

The single day park hopper is a SoCal resident only deal, so I don't think you can buy it online.

I can get a single day hopper from work for $64 - PM Lisa if you're interested in pursuing this one

Online I can buy a 1 day park hopper ticket for $79.

Maybe SoCal residents get a price deal for park hoppers?

In all seriousness, you should NOT hobble through the Park if you've got tendonitis. Not if you ever want to walk again.

Rent a wheelchair.

(Lisa will be happy to push you about)

The votes are in, tendonitis. For the moment, I am on heavy dosing of advil 3 times a day, strict rest this weekend and a possible othopedic boot come Tuesday after the holiday. CRAP
:(

LSPoorEeyorick 02-17-2006 07:46 PM

D'oh! I'm another vote for wheelchair.

By the way, I will be there that evening (also, with my brother, his wife, and their three sweet ducklings) and hope to catch up with you all for some of the festivities (definitely fireworks.)

CoasterMatt 02-17-2006 08:49 PM

I'll be there for at least the morning - I'm gonna be using trains to get home, so I'll have to cut out a bit early...

Well, the good news is, I've taken it really easy all weekend, overdosing on advil 3 times a day and I am almost 100% today. :D

So, I'm going to contiue the treatment as long as needed so that I will be right as rain on the 3rd for the Disneyland Adventure.

Looking forward to meeting you and your kindred (familial and spirits).

Donna

alphabassettgrrl 02-21-2006 11:31 AM

This sounds like fun! Friday will work for me better than Saturday, unless I get put on a show-run. That's not likely, so I should be able to come play!

Not Afraid 02-21-2006 11:55 AM

Cool! It sounds like Friday is going to be a VERY nice day!

Not Afraid 03-01-2006 11:24 PM

Well, tomorrow, I'm taking the train to LA to meet Chris and Snowflake, then we're going to see the Oscar Animated Shorts, then back home to meet the kitties, then on Friday, it is off to Disneyland!!!

If you're joining us, you know my cell. If you don't know my cell, PM me quick or ask anyone else on the board. ;)

I hope you can make it on Friday to hang with us for a while. I'm looking forward to a great day.

innerSpaceman 03-02-2006 11:04 AM

I'll prob. be heading down after work. Is there going to be a fireworks castle-campout for Snowflake's benefit?

(If so, I'll know where to go when I get there)

Not Afraid 03-02-2006 11:12 AM

Yes, I'm sure we'll be camping out. But, just call.

Cadaverous Pallor 03-02-2006 11:32 AM

We're hoping to stop by and say hi after I pick up GD from the airport. :tiki:

lindyhop 03-02-2006 09:45 PM

I'll see you all there after work...

Not Afraid 03-03-2006 12:20 AM

Well, we're home, going to go to bed so we can get up early and go to the Park! yay! If you go, just call me when you get there and I'll tell you where we are located.

See you tomorrow!

Cadaverous Pallor 03-03-2006 11:47 AM

I hope they aren't getting too rained on, and that the lines are wonderfully short!

Motorboat Cruiser 03-03-2006 12:00 PM

Indeed. We're headed up there in a few minutes and it's not looking good around here right now. Raining pretty hard.

Hopefully, we'll get to see some of you, at least. I'm playing tonight so we can only stay until about 3 at the latest.

Not Afraid 03-04-2006 11:43 AM

Full report later, but it was a near-perfect day. Lines were short short short and we even rode Pan! We missed DCA (awwwwwww) but did everything BIG but Tiki, Steve Martin, Snow, Toad, Splash and Tea Cups.

Fun fun fun. Pics and more later.

Motorboat Cruiser 03-04-2006 02:42 PM

Great to see those that I was able to hook up with yesterday. Sorry to those we missed.

And it was a pleasure to meet you Snowflake. Don't be a stranger. :)

Kevy Baby 03-05-2006 12:49 AM

And, thanks to a gracious and kind benefactor who was able to sign her in, she went today (Saturday the 4th) as well!

CoasterMatt 03-05-2006 01:01 AM

Awesome!

It was a lot of fun to hop aboard a Starspeeder 3000 with Donna for her very first flight to the Endor moon.

CoasterMatt 03-05-2006 01:06 AM

I took some pictures on Friday...

FIRE!!!

but my desktop (for now) is this.

wendybeth 03-05-2006 01:21 AM

Good lord, I hope they don't burn down DL before we get there.

I am soooo looking forward to our trip- I really miss the Park and all of you!

CoasterMatt 03-05-2006 01:27 AM

I even got a pic of Mickey - even though he was a bit hidden... :)

Snowflake 03-05-2006 04:58 AM

Snowflake has flown back to VA

I've landed, I'm home, Tango is SO glad to see her Mommy and I am SO dead! No sleep on the plane and I was really fidgety on the plane too.

More later, but it was GREAT to meet everyone and see all the wonderful, magical things in the park and ride on so many cool rides.

I think I can sum up the trip thusly, Lisa really gives great Disney!

Back when I've slept!

Donna

LSPoorEeyorick 03-05-2006 08:24 AM

It was swell to meet you, Donna! (And extra swell to see you an extra day.) You were part of the best trip 'round Pirates ever!

MickeyLumbo 03-05-2006 08:54 AM

it was a blast to hang out with you! thanks for being so much fun.
xoxo

Not Afraid 03-05-2006 10:41 AM

Well, we never did get Heroin CHicken, but I think numerous Pirate sinkings was a good substitution. ;)

I sure hope you're getting some sleep! I was a dead woman last night. We had a blast! Visit again soon!

Amd, I bow to the great benefactor of Disney.

Snowflake 03-05-2006 11:27 AM

Snowflake's photo album

Well, yeah...proving yet again I am the least consistent photographer (which is part of the reason why I have not yet shelled out for a new camera).

The day started off very rainy, it was pouring, in fact. NA and I did have some misgivings, but by the time we got to the park, no worries!

It was really amazing, look at the few grouchy people at the hub, this would prove to be ideal for it allowed us to make the most of the lack of people to walk on many rides. The first ride was Indy which was fabulous and was a proper start to my chiropractic session for the day.

NA proved to be a great hostess, and right after riding Thunder Mountain Railroad, we had a few additions to the group

and a happy group they were, maybe a touch over-twinked

The proof is in the PAN!

I'm sure this is something you'd never think you'd see, the backside of Mary Poppins.

Our very own Commodore joined us and proved to be most insistent about a visit to the Blue Bayou. But first he had to show off his latest purchase

Here we are at the Blue Bayou, gosh but I look really happy to be there and seem to be pleased with the menu choices!

MBC and Matt enjoying the rolls and awaiting their chocolate volcano cake

The Commodore took charge and we split a Monte Cristo and an order of Crab Cakes. After noshing, we were joined by CoasterMatt and iSm

After this, my camera went into my bag only to resurface to take some weird night photos.

On IASW I sat next to Chris

Since I was sitting next to Chris and NA did not get a chance to make out with him on IASW, not to miss a chance to be on the phone connection, she was yakking with Lindyhop

iSm, EM, CM and I then rode on the Matterhorn, NO LINE, and it was my first at night, which was totally fabulous! Sorry we could not repeat the experience.

Camping out at the hub for the fireworks I took a couple of blurry shots of the castle and many black blobs which should have been the castle.

Based on this I knew better than to even try taking pics of the fireworks, which were BTW, the most fantastic fireworks display I've ever seen. The projections and park tributes were fabulous.

NA modeling a new creation

Then I took a shot of the Astro-Orbiter for no good reason

GD & CP showed up, fresh from the airport for the fireworks (but I took no more pictures, for which I am sure you will thank me). We did a great Jungle Cruise and then Fantasmic, which was also just spectacular.

My head is still all fuzzy from lack of sleep, but on this first day I can't stress how much fun I had! And who knew, there was more fun in store.....

MouseWife 03-05-2006 12:41 PM

Those people DID look grouchy! Hee hee!! Then go home!! I love days like that. Prefer them to a sunny day anytime.

It looks like you all had a blast! The photos were great, even the blurry ones. They looked trippy.

I am glad that you guys had walk ons. The best way to enjoy the park. Envious that you got to ride Pan!

And, I think Lisa could orchestrate a meeting of the whole LoT bunch. Splendidly....

MickeyLumbo 03-05-2006 01:32 PM

"just say NO!"

Not Afraid 03-08-2006 07:48 PM

Well, it is about TIME I uploaded my photos!

Here's a few choice pics and the rest are located here.

It was a dark and stormy day and Disneyland look MUCH different to Snowflake than it had in 1977.

Our first set of Swankers joined us:

It's a Jolly Holiday for Showflake!

The Haunted Duct.

This was BEFORE the Monte Christo ;).

Would You People STOP?

But, it is SOOOO romantic!

But, what is the HELL is this Nasty thing? Magnification?

A few more swankers in from the rain.

Great photos! It was a memorable first day back to DL for me, that's for sure. I don't think I could have had more fun and I didn't, until the Pirates meet the next day. It was totally perfect from start to finish.:snap:

All of the pictures are great!

I am sorry that I missed meeting you, Snowflake, but very happy to read/see you had a blast!!!

Lisa and Chris~ my hats off to you guys for all of those great smooching shots!!! :snap:
