The Gig
The Swankiest Train on Earth

The Scene
We had heard rumor that the Lilly Belle had been refurbished and was once again gracing the tracks of the Disneyland Railroad. For those who wonder what the Lilly Belle is, it was Walt Disney's wife Lillian's private rail car for when they stayed at the park.

In order to ride, a lead must be present to tell you a brief history of the car and its restoration, on how it's decor matched that of the Main Street Firehouse - AKA Walt's apartment.

But words fail to describe the swankiness of this experience, so here are a few pictures:

And best of all, the view from the train:

Disney seems very proud of their restoration and eager to show it off at the moment, so I'd take advantage while it lasts.

I've read elsewhere that access is restricted to Club 33 members, but it seems that if you ask politely, board at Main Street Station, and there's a trained lead available, you have a chance of taking a ride.

Psst, it's Lilly Belle. :fej: How lucky for you that you got to see inside. Steve DeGaetano did a cool article on it at MousePlanet.

Cool. I had a chance to talk to Matt Ouimet (yay, name dropping) at the Monsters event about the Lilly Belle (he seems very proud, said that the railroad and trains are his replacement for the cruise ships) and he suggested that they might be expanding access beyond the original plan (which was just for Club 33, VIPs, and the Walk in Walts Footsteps tour).

Oh, that old train car? Oh, I've been in there dozens of times. Simply dozens. I don't do my grand circle tours any other way!
:D

Cool pics!

We'll have to keep our eyes out for a certain CM friend in engineer's clothing...

She cleans up nicely. I was graced with the priviledge of a Grand Circle Tour via the Lilly Belle awhile back. It's amazing. Thanks for the photos.

I wanna take a ride in that car one day. You think it makes stops in Boston?
:D

I so wish I could ride that train car. Bummer.:(

It's just so beautiful.:) Disney did a great job in getting that restored.
