Coachella Anyone?
I just got notice that presale tickets are available this weekend for the 2005 Coachella Festival.
We went for one day last year and had a blast seeing, Crystal Method, Air, Belle & Sebastian, the Killers, and the Basement Jaxx. No lineup announced yet for this years festival (that'll come on the 31st), but I'm already excited about this. Anyone else think they might spend a weekend in the dessert? :) |
Oh geez, I am sooo tempted.
But, I don't go for such heat. Thanks for the link, though, my chickie might go. She was there when you and Lisa were there last year. Passing out somewhere..... |
My hairdresser cuts the hair of the Coachella organizer. She didn't say who was there this year but hinted that it was even better than last year.
We're going, aren't we? |
Hmmm....
Does sound interesting... Sweaty Swank! |

Sorry cats - hot, fleshpacked, blazing desert concert is just not my scene anymore.
Enjoy it while you can. |
Be sure to wear your swank tank! :) Maybe something with rhinestones?
|
I heard Portishead is on the ticket. Must re-think personal age-appropriate activity restrictions recently imposed...
|
Well, we're the same general age. We're going to go. There. Rethinking done. ;)
|
Ooooh Portishead!!!
I've never been to a concert like this. Raves don't count. Even though I went to one at the Polo fields. :p How much are those presale tickets? (I'm supposed to be saving for a house) |
Oooooh, Air and the Killers? I'd go!
I was recently busted....my husband saw the Killers on SNL with me. Ooops. My sister and I shared a pitcher of beer with the lead singer and the drummer one night after they played with Keane a few months ago. Uh, forgot to mention to my husband they were HOT. :D Cool guys and an awesome show! And um, yes, they are pretty hot. I'll be hearing about it for a while. |

I think they typically start by selling only 2-day tickets. I understand that beyond the tickets there's usually a rush to secure either camping space or a local hotel room. I think we'll probably be doing the later. January 31 the lineup is announced, I'm eager to hear who'll be there this year. |

And again, if I lived closer to the action, my husband and I would definitely be game for the Coachella Festival. We love hot, sweaty, crazy madness! :D |

It's not in the cards for me. Too much money (and I just found the DREAMIEST bookstore...well cared for used books, preserved in plastic sleeves, first editions, later editions, and really, really affordable...and the damn store has got me - and my money - in its power). And I tend to get a bit worn out after three acts. I just don't have the right energy for that kind of music event.
Have fun everyone who goes, though. |
me and 40,000 people in the hot sun and drinking usually do not get along
:fej: |
Last year, I had the same fears. Hot sun, drunk people, long day, loud music usually equals a very pissed off me. But, Coachella was VERY laid back. While it was hot, it was dry heat and not so bad (and I'm thermally challenged, remember). The crowd was in good spirits and I just stayed out of the mosh pit and I was fine. (Although, I did get into the fray for the Crystal Method.) The thing is, if you got too hot or too crowded in a tent, you plopped down outside and listened. Or, you went somewhere else to get in some more music.
One of my favorite moments was sitting on the grass as the sun was starting to set and listening to Belle and Sebastian play. It was the most PLESANT concert experience I've ever had - and that's saying a LOT. I am up for it again this year - both days depending on the bands. I wish we had done both days last year - even if that means seeing Kraftwerk. ;) |
The line-up was announced today.
For the Saturday's set I'm excited about Coldplay, Bauhaus (never saw them in their day), Chemical Brothers, Keane, and Cafe Tacuba For Sunday, I'll want to see Nine Inch Nails, New Order, Gang of Four, Roni Size, the Dresden Dolls, Miss Kitten, and Tegan and Sara. Now all we need is tickets. |
Oh, I'm all about Day 2, though Day 1 has so many acts I'd love to see. From what I understand about the set up, I doubt there'd be a moment to be without entertainment.
Tickets are supposed to go on sale this weekend. I'm going to have to check on my finances, as they are as tight as... nevermind... Maybe I'll have to chum up to Tramspotter and point out the finer acts at this festival. I'll use my feminine wiles to get my way... OK... I'm on a little too much caffeine... Anything to get me through till 10:30 with this programming class :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: |
I wanna go I wanna go I wanna go I wanna go...
And there's an act called "Sloan", I think that means we're required to go, right? |
GD talked me into it. It didnt' take much talking though. We've never gone to anything like this, ever. And I've never even seen a normal big name concert. Ever. So I think the money is justified.
I'm excited. :D |
Hmmm... Get a line-up of great friends, and I'm certain getting tickets will happen.. Hmmm..
|
Woohoo - Desert Swankfest at the Polo Field!
|
Bright Eyes is a new "up and coming" act according to Spin Magazine. I just read about their lead singer last night. "Catholic prep-schooler, "new Dylan," antiwar radical, folk-rock messiah, and boy du jour--Conor Oberst feels our pain more tunefully than we do."
They might be worth checking out as a newer discovery. |
Okay, so the geniuses scheduled this during Passover. We'll still be going, but it means we won't be able to eat bread, or anything that resembles bread. And everyone knows that one of the best parts of a festival concert like this is the food options. Sigh.
It also ocurred to me that I may be spending the week leading up to this in San Francisco at a conference. We had been thinking that if I do go to this conference, I'd extend my stay up there and CP would fly up to spend the weekend. I guess that's not happening afterall, eh? That may be one long, crazy week for me. |
Sweet, my sister just booked a room at the same motel as us for her and her husband. This is going to be so much fun!
|
Cool! I like your sister and BIL.
Bright Eyes has been getting a lot of press lately and so has The Arcade Fire (which I am attracted to). But, what excites me most: Coldplay Bauhaus (haven't seen since 1981 at the Whisky) Chemical Brothers Keane Mercury Rev Cafe Tacuba The Kills NIN (Saw the tour with David Bowie and they were great) New Order (I miss Joy Division) Prodigy Dresden Dolls Tegan and Sara Jem (!!!!!!!) |

Last saw him and the band in New Orleans a few months ago. Jangly pain can be intensely beautiful, and that's all I have to say about that. |
I wish I had been there when BJORK herself appeared. Poot da cheekin in da potten, BJORK BJORK BJORK!
How much was it for the motel GD? It isn't during the first two nights of Passover is it?? |
No, it's the end of Passover, so it shouldn't intefere with any Sedars. We got rooms at $57 a night. Those are going fast (last I checked, the motel we're at only had a few rooms with 2 full beds left, no queens). But there should still be something around that's reasonable. The coachella website has a pretty comprehensive list of hotels/motels in the area.
|
I just got our tickets - two musical days in the desert woohoo!
|
I wanna go! Coldplay gets me hot! ;)
I'd give anything to see New Order!! How fun!! And Jem (saw her last March for $10! :D), Keane, Killers. Damn! I love music festivals sooo much! |
Ordered our tickets, got the electronic delivery. So we just need to print 'em out. woot.
|
I'm not going to Coachella, but I'm going to see Queensryche, with backstage passes and everything...
|
That's cool, CoasterMatt. :snap:
|
I got my tickets ljust for the Saturday. I can't wait for Coldplay. I want to see Weezer, Rilo Kiley and Snow Patrol.
|
My sister just turned me on to Cafe Tacuba, definitely looking forward to that (same vein as Kinky or Ozamatle). I'd like to catch Jem, Stereophonics, Bauhaus, Chemical Bros, maybe Cold Play, definitely NiN. I know there were others, but I've listened to so many samples I can't remember what's what any more. I'm going to have to do more research and write things down.

I'd love to go to Coachella, but those crowds...and if it's in the heat. Yeah, forget it. |

It's all luck.....now if only it would happen at Duran Duran, life would be complete. Full circle. ;) |
Hope you all have a wonderful time. Unfortunately, my festival days are pretty much over. I just don't handle the prolonged exposure to the sun too well. Wish we could join you though.
|
So, tomorrow, we're off to the Desert to see a few bands. Well, a LOT of bands - good ones too. The temperature looks manageable (62 to 84) and we're looking forward to having some fun. I doubt we'll be connected while there, so have fun and we'll see you again on Monday.

Have lots of fun, people!
I am glad to hear the weather will be manageable. My chickie and her rooster are heading out tomorrow, too. If you see a chickie with black hair, pierced lip, tattoos, black clothes, fair skin.....wait....never mind. Okay, she told me something gross about last year. She said that people were actually urinating in the pits {and I do not mean port-a-potties} so they wouldn't lose their places. Anyone hear about this??? YUCK!! I need to read back on this thread....I am so jealous she is going...Nine Inch Nails!!! Weezer!! {I love Weezer, she won't wear my Weezer shirt, though...drats.....} |
Have a great time, everyone!
|
I decided not to go this year since the Captain and Tenille aren't playing.
|
We are back and had a blast! We'lll do a full update a bit later. The Cats are in need of attention first.
