The Cool Candy Thread
To me going to a confectionary shop is like being a kid in a candy store. OK, so maybe that's not the best analogy, but I do love candy. Yum!
One my favorite new cadies are the Crispy M*Azing chocolate bars. They're made with M&M's. I also love a confection called Wild Cherry Licorice Rabbits. They're so good. I get them at World Market (On the West Coast of the country, I think the store is called Cost Plus.) So do you have a favorite candy? |
I had a few favorite candies. They don't make them anymore. Nestle Alpine White oh so good. And this 4 flavored candy bar I could only find in Nova Scotia. They don't make that one anymore either.
I'm trying to avoid candy now. It really likes my hips :D |
Almond Roca. It was horrible when the Girl was in Campfire.
|
Yep, almond roca. Or English toffee, I'm easy.
|
I've never tried Almond Roca. I'll have to give it a try.
I, also, love the Nestle chocolate covered cookie bars. I haven't been able to fine around here lately. |
Rocky Road from the Candy Palace
|
Dark chocolate, especially dark chocolate with mint.
Favorite candy bar-Twix, original. But it has to be consumed a certain way. Eat all the sides first & then ends, then top and lastly the cookie, mmmmm. I also LOVE Red Hots! The small tiny valentines day kind. |
Cup O' Gold.
Beman's, Clove and BlackJack Gum Do you like that yummy gum, HTH? :gnome: |
Boy, I just don't know what my favorite candy is
Could anybody help me figure it out :D |
Quote:
|
Just for you, HTH. Ubergeek made it just for you.:gnome:
|
I'm honored. Thanks.
|
Favorite candy: Rowntrees Fruit Gums
Everything else is just a distant second. Though I probably should exclude chocolate and chocolate-related candies, because I do like those, too. Okay Fruit Gums are by far the best non-chocolate candies. |
Japonais, best chocolate bar ever. I'm rarely snobby about things of il like, but I gotta say...american chocolate really sucks.
|
Toblerone
|
Quote:
One of my favorite candies are called "Goldberg's Peanut Chews". I grew up on them in NY and now, the Albertsons next to my complex started carrying them, much to my amazement. Good stuff. |
Quote:
(I also eat kit kits pretty much the same way). |
Licorice Frogs.
I really DO love them! And Teaberry is in the pantheon of great gums. |
Currently I'm eating some "Jogger Gums." They're a gummi candy made in Germany. They're really tasty, even though they are shaped like sneakers.
|
Quote:
And what is it about the Germans that make them want to make their candy resemble other household objects or foods? |

Well, I figured I'd save Peeps for another thread. But since you mentioned it
Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps truly are the Candy of the Gods. |
HTH has a Peeps maker which is doomed to never be used.
I like chocolate. The good kind--dark dark dark dark dark. Pocky's fun. World Market didn't have Men's Pocky (dark chocolate) so I bought regular Pocky yesterday. Why is it that dark chocolate is guy thing in Japan? I guess my chocolate preferences are subversive. |

My favorite European chocolate experience: I was in Barcelona, walking around with Tramspotter one late night (early morning) and we decided we wanted to try their churros con chocolate.... Wowwwwweeee! Castillian chocolate is really fantastically thick, kind of like that thing they're trying to do at Starbucks. But I'm going to say there's probably nothing like doing it in Spain. My favorite candy aesthetically speaking: ![]() Ribbon Candy... I wish I could find a better picture... one with candy with a few different colors in it. The sick sick thing I really like: ![]() I know.. they're sick... But they're so good, and better than collagen injections!!! |
Quote:
Blueerica, I like the way Ribbon candy looks, too. It usually sticks in my teeth, but it looks cool. |
Lol, Erica!!! I used to love all that wax candy crap- been years since I've had any, though.
I know this isn't candy, but I love caramel corn. I'm not a big candy eater, but if we were talking dessert........:snap: |
Quote:
But... admittedly, its not the same as new ones from the store. Quote:
I am dying to know more about the Wild Cherry Licorice Rabbits, any idea who makes them? |
Quote:
I love dark chocolate anything 3 Musketeers Gummi Bears Peeps Any flavor of Bubble Yum gum Mike & Ike's |

I tried a new candy bar by Hersheys the other night called a "Take 5" (I'm sure Dave Brubeck is thrilled). Anyway it is pretzels, caramel, peanuts, and peanut butter, all covered in chocolate. It was actually pretty darn good.
|
I love chocolate covered gummi bears.
There, I said it. And I'm not ashamed, galdurnit! |
I'm a pretty big fan of candy. I do love Maple Candy! Talk about your pure sugar! Little maple candy shaped like maple leaves. Yum. I do love fresh licorice (Australian), but the red kind. And I love Red Vines, but it's the devil's candy:mad: . You just want to eat the whole package in one sitting. You can't stop eating it!! Love Twix-original, Snickers, Violet Crumble(Honeycomb). Gummis are good at times, but it's got to be just regular gummi bears, not the octopus or anything else. Sour fruit salad is tasty. I'm a milk chocolate fan, but I have been known to eat the dark stuff too.
For those that are English Toffee or Almond Roca fans, there's not much better than the big chunk of ET you get from See's. |
Oh man, I forgot to name one of our all-time favorite candies, red swedish fish! They are so tasty that you get a mild craving for them, kinda like crack. When Matthew and I first met, we developed an addiction to the damn things and would buy a bag every time we saw a sweet factory. Good times! :coffee:
|
I agree about maple candy. I must admit that I break down and buy it online about once a year. My biggest problem is no matter how much I buy I can't stop eating it until it is gone. I have no self control when it comes to that mapely goodness.
I also like Bottle Caps. Oooo and Sees peppermit ball things are good too!! |
Also Russian chocolate bars. There's a kind I used to get that claimed it was milk chocolate (c molokom!) but tasted vaguely coconutty. It was so good.

Jellie Bellies god I love them things (except the Harry potter ones ugh!)
bottlecaps, nerds, laughy taffy (wonka sure has me hooked LOL) Red vines that is THE theater candy, bite off each end and use it for a straw in yer drink, then when they get really cold from the ice they get crunchy :) speaking of crunchy, a nice frozen charleston chew, properly whacked against the table so it breaks in bits inside the package And more whacking fun; those choclate oranges you whack to get the slices seperated (but its gotta be dark chocolate) Gummy worms if they are made by the right company I forget who makes the good ones with two distinct flavors in each worm, but those are the best Beer nuts you know those candy coated peanut things MMM I used to love Whitman chocolates but their quality has gone downhill in recent years, they invariably taste stale now whenever I get them, and seems like the ingrediants are not as rich. I also like those old fashioned candy sticks that you can get for like 20 cents and they come in a variety of flavors rootbeer is probably my fave closely followed by orange pineapple My childhood cheap favorite I havnt seen in years; cherry clan it was these little sour cherry balls, by I think the same people that make lemonheads Who remembers Astropops? dear god it was liquid cement on a stick once it went in between yer teeth it was impossible to pry them apart...simular to... sugar babies (but nowhere near as bad as an astropop) caramelly goodness! I am a candy freak I could go on and on LOL!!! |
Quote:
I also liked the Take Five bar, and swedish Fish are an all time fave. Now that said, I worked in an independant chocolate company in Colorado for six years. We made our own chocoate items, truffles, toffee, caramel apples, fudge... but all of our gummy and hard candy we brought in.. I could sit here for an hour typing the things I liked. But the swedish fish, peeps, sweet tarts, cherry sours, choc covered gummi bears, and choc pretzels; were all in place long before I ever got that job. I may go to Cost PLus today and look for the rabbits. |
I used to buy the big vats of red vines for my office. Then, I would eat about 30 of them on a daily basis. I bought them because they are relatively fat free (just all sugar- like there's a difference), but eating the quantities I did, I could've just stuck with chocolate. Yum......Red Vines.

I used to really enjoy buying the bag of the long red licorice vines at DLR. You know the vines that were a couple feet long? Then they switched to regular size, which was okay. Now, DLR is selling those licorice bits instead. It's just not the same, I tells ya. Which is a good thing anyways, because eating a whole bag of candy is not so good for your waistline or your health. ;) Sheila |
Aww! I love Twizzlers! And the best part of a Twizzler is that after sucking on one for awhile, they slightly stain your lips a really sexy cherry red. If only they made a lipgloss called "Twizzler".. ;) :)
Having just shared my confection confession, I will admit I love way too many candies to post! My favorites are what my Mom calls really "junky cheap candy". The Wonka stuff! :snap: I love.... *Everlasting Gobstoppers (I'm a jawbreaker freak!) * Bottlecaps * Jellybellies (I love the black ones! :) ) *Red Licorice Whips *Candy Corn *Conversation hearts *Candy Necklaces ( I love to nibble on those while I'm actually wearing it! ) *Candy Dots! The ones that kinda look like this --> :iSm: on white paper sheets. (Okay, I just really wanted to use that emoticon! :D ) *Cherry Sours *Sour Sugared Cherries, Watermelon Slices & Green Apples *Gummi Bears! |
Easter is coming so that means Cadbury Eggs. I know, I know, but they are so yummy!! Just the regular ones. I tried the others and they're not as good.
|
They still make Astropops but now they are upside down on the stick to they don't become weapons!
I'm a big fan of Hot Tamales. Love them while watching a movie. Sweet cinnamon goodness. :fej: Chocolate covered almond "clumps" - I forget what their proper name is - are so yummy too. Dark chocolate I should say. Those are much better. I also like a snickers bar that's been cut into pieces - down the middle and then cross ways into square chunks - then chill for a bit if they are too soft. Nice and chewy little bite size chunks. Oh - and how could I forget - Almond Joy. Love coconut and chocolate. I just wish they make a dark chocolate one with almonds. |
Quote:
|
Yeah, well I get grossed out about Peeps so...
I don't get them all the time. There's only so much I can handle with those. They can make you feel a little ill. But they have the little bite size ones now, so that can help the craving! |
I love dark chocolate. Love it. Black jellybeans are good too. And jelly babies. Yum. Those fizzy coke bottle candies are pretty good too. Mmmmm...candy:)
|
Ohhhhhhh cant believe I forgot
Bottlecaps Hot Tamales Red Vines Nerds Mmmmmmmmmmm!!! I also love BIG HUNK :) especially if it's been frozen~!!! YUM OH OH OH and Wax Bottles!!! And lastly, Gummi Cola Bottles!!!!!!!! Oh oh seriously lastly this time Old Tyme candy sticks, the kind you used to be able to get for 10 cents with flavors like Bubble Gum, Tutti Frutti and rootbeer and stuff....When I was little I would ALWAYS get these at Knott's(had to get my boysenberry fix)these and Candy Dots(like Ally was talking about) |
I've been craving candy all day because of this thread. I have a ton of chocolate left over from the holidays, but that isn't what I want.
I'm a chewy, gummi, "tooth breaking" candy person. I don't like to keep much of it on hand either. I can easily polish off a big box in one sitting. My faves: *Dots, regular and cinnamon *Black Crows *Hot Tamales *Mike & Ikes *Jelly Beans *Milk Duds *Gummi Smurfs (blue), I can't find these anymore...whaaa! :( *Gummi Frogs, the ones with the marshmallow underneath. *Licorice -- I prefer black over red, but either will do. My all time favorite is grape. I haven't seen the purple licorice in a long time either, whaaa again! *Sour Punch Straws *Ferrera Pan candy -- Lemonheads, Red Hots, Jawbreakers, Atomic Fire Balls *Salt Water Taffy -- This stuff is awesome...I'm so tempted to order a box. http://www.seashoretaffy.com/products.asp?dept=16 I do love See's Candy too. Their toffee is fabulous! |

Cadbury eggs are gross. Now, Robin's Eggs.....those are good.:snap:
|
Henrys Market sells licorice of various flavors: grape, root beer, cherry, strawberry, apple etc...
Target now sells the Aussie licorice that you could previously obtain from Trader Jos. |
Peeps.... did someone say peeps ?
Quote:
It was favoured by all ! Better than the store bought ones because they were made by US ourselves ! And they were Soooooo cute - we got a special snowman mold that we couldn't bring ourse;ves to colour no matter what ! |
PS: Robin's Eggs ROCK TOTALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
yum. |

I love the Lindt dark chocolate bar with little bits of orange in it. DL Candy Palace English toffee also totally rocks.

And Lashbear... I gotta get you some refill packs man! |
THEY HAVE DARK CHOCOLATE ROCKY ROAD AT CANDY PALACE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Surprise! I guess the happy accident was such a success that they decided to make it again. And, we have some. Bidding will begin in an hour. ;) |

Whe I was a kid and Microsoft didn't exist and Redmond, WA was a cowtown with one stoplight, we used to buy our milk from a dairy with actual cows milked by actual milking machines and bottled in actual glass half-gallon bottles with foil caps. They also had actual penny candy (up to 3 cents each by the time the cows were sold.) I fondly remember sixlets and zots. Oh those fizzy zots! My brother and I each got one piece of candy per visit and zots were my favorite.

Fiz Wiz was awesome. Not quite as awesome as pop rocks and alas, they disappeared.
I was staring at the *cheap* candy this weekend contemplating if the wax bottles of sugar liquid would taste as awesome as they did when I was a kid. Does anyone remember when 3-Musketeer bars came in a white wrapper? |
Quote:
They don't and yes I remember(never liked those though, but I will eat a milky midnight) Remember Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Crunchy? With the chopped nuts on top?? I also used to LOVE LOVE LOVE Munch Bars & Planter's Peanut Bars, for some reason I can't eat them anymore though. :( |
Zotz were great. What a wonderfully bizarre candy.

I also had a choc-top, which is a scoop of vanilla icecream in a crispy wafer cone, with all visible icecream dipped into melted chocolate. I also had Popcorn. I had a diet coke too - gotta watch that sugar intake  The whole lot (including movie ticket) cost me $14.00 AU which is US$10.76 :snap: Snaps for value ! |

Robin Eggs are good. Reeses makes eggs with PB inside and they are delish!!
It is mandatory to have the Butter Cream eggs from Sees every Easter. The ones with the little pink or yellow candy flower on them...YUMMY. Gn2-Did you get your Toffee from Sees? I remember the white 3 Musketeers wrapper. It was very similar to Baby Ruth. Anyone remember Powerhouse bars? They were tasty! And I love a good Heath Bar. |
I've been buying the Hershies Take Five bars out of the vending machines at work. They're really tasty. The only problem is that I end up humming the jazz tune "Take Five" for quite awhile afterwards.

|
OMG- now I want Bottle Caps, and Ribbon Candy, and the robins' eggs... my grandma used to have ribbon candy every Christmas and I always hated to be the first one to snag a piece, because it was so pretty in the box, all tidy.
Another of my favorites are the Smarties. Can't get the generic ones, though, they're not the same. |

I thought of a few more classics that I like. I know that Long's Drugs still carries them: Abba-zaba Chick-o-stick Bit-O-Honey |
I've been snacking on the caramel filled Hershey Kisses. Those are good. Yum.

You didn't NEED to tell me that those existed. I would really like to remain ignorant about all delicious candy things, TYVM.
|
Oh, I'm sorry. What I meant to say, was that I was sleeping this afternoon and dreamed about how wonderful it would be if there was such a thing as Caramel filled Hershy Kisses. Too bad they don't really exist. I was only dreaming.
I've got to go buy some more of those. I'm almost out. |
You have my address, no?
Of course, the length of time licorice frogs hung about.........;) |

I must say, there are some serious candy fiends around these parts! I shouldn't even be opening this thread. I don't need to be checking to see if Robin's Egg's are available at the grocery store. I don't need to be contemplating a mall trip just to stop by the Sweet Factory and/or See's. My sweet tooth is working overtime here and I blame you all.;)
|
I've been lurking on this thread for a couple of days, so now I have to 'fess up.
This past August ('04), my Mom and Dad decided to rent a house in Cape Cod, MA for a couple of weeks. When I was a kid, we used to go every summer. I still have memories (and pictures) of an almost-12-year-old me sporting a black t-shirt with a Meatloaf "Bat Out Of Hell" iron-on. This trip would be different because my two sisters and I are all grown up (ahem), and everyone would be bringing their significant other. It took about two days for us to hit the penny candy store. The first trip was innocent enough, a couple of Squirrel Nut Zippers, a few assorted Gummi creatures, a handful of Goldenberg's Peanut Chews. By the fourth day, it was bedlam. At every given moment, there were three or more flavors of fudge on the kitchen counter, a bag devoted entirely to Gummies (peach=good, whale=bad), Flying Saucers (that sort of melt in your mouth and have a bunch of sugar bb's inside), red, black, and brown licorice... ...if you think this thread isn't the source of a shopping list for more than one of us, you've got another thing coming. |
Nestle Crunch Caramel. Mmmmmmmmmmm.
|
Chocolate Covered Almonds - Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, either or...
Twix - Regular Twix Red Vines - Not Twizzlers (Bleh) Haribo's Golden Bears Gummi Bears - Not Trolli, not Black Forest... Haribo only Snickers - Regular kind, not almond. Tried it the other day, bleh. Cadbury's Fruit and Nut Bars - Reminds me of the London Underground. :) |
I'm a sucker for a truffle. See's, Ethel M, Godiva. Especially chocolate truffles. Chocolate filled chocolate, doesn't get much better than that.
I'm also the rare marzipan fan. Almondy goodness! |
Oh, and on the subject of Haribo, their peach thingies are to die for.
|

My taste in sweet does go along with my taste in films and music. |

Have you seen the new signature truffles at Godiva? OMG they look wonderful!! The new limited edition box and and the passion set with HIs and Hers flavors |

The mojito ones are very cool. I didn't think I'd like them but I get serious hankerings. And my husband is on orders to obtain the passion set for the 14th. However, I'll be eating both the his and hers flavors. I am disappointed that they changed the vanilla truffles. I liked the old ones better. And in the cheaper realm -- midnight milky way. I want one right now. And a Godiva mojito truffle. Maybe two. |
Add me to the marzipan club. :D I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE marzipan!
Is my sweet tooth showing? |
Those Goetz Caramels are great. Yum!!!!

Crunchy Frog, Spring Surprise, Lark's Vomit, Ram's Bladder Cup.

Has anyone tried the new limited edition candies that are out right now??? Hershey's Nut Lovers - milk chocolate with pecans, almonds, peanuts and cashews: A+ Hershey's Double Chocolate - milk chocolate bar with a chocolate fudge center (it's in my bag, but not yet opened, can't give a grade) Reese's Extra Creamy Peanut Butter Cups: I was not a fan! D- Reese's Pieces with Peanuts: A (I like them better that the original) I miss the last limited edition Hershey's Cookies & Mint. The smoothe, minty milk chocolate would melt in your mouth and leave these heavenly, crunchy little morsels of chocolate cookie goodness on your tongue. They had them in bars and nuggets for a while. I found the bars last summer (again limited edition of course) but I preferred the nuggets. They came out at the same time as the Cookies & Cream bar. The cookie pieces are the same. I love white chocolate, but do not really like the Cookies & Cream. It is, dare I say, too sweet. Does not seem like real white chocolate, more of a vanilla creme type candy. |
Quote:
The rest I have not tried. I'll add it to my list. :) |
umm I have heard so much about this stuff... what exactly is marzipan?
While I am on the subject I just have to share. A local company here in Oregon called the "candy basket" that makes chocolate, has this cool REAL chocolate waterfall in their front lobby. They have to constantly maintain it, but its really awesome you can smell the hot chocolate as you walk in. :) |

Gooooooooo Team Marzipan -- I am craving marzipan in the worst way! Where can I get some at this hour???
Mmmmmm...marzipan: http://biermannmarzipan.com/ I might settle for some Tangy Taffy/Laffy Taffy, though.... |
forgive me if this sounds a little weird... I know nothing about this stuff.. why is the candy shaped like fruit? Does it have a fruit flavor with the almond?
|
Ahhhh...I would kill for some Honeycomb from Candy Palace right now....or some Rocky Road - Yes in Dark Chocolate...ahhh!
See's Candy is our new favorite..the kids have discovered the wonderment of free samples! I'm partial to the Apricot Delites and the Key Lime Truffles. And pretty much anything else in the display case! |
My $0.02 worth:
Personal Favorite: Sees molasses chips, light not dark. Peeps are the devils work and just plain evil A swanky place like this should call for a swanky candy Ps. That highbrow carmel corn they sell over at USH is pretty damn good also. |

By the way, I went to EPCOT Center today withe FlippyShark and MatterHarp Fan, and bought some candy from Japan. My purchases were fizzing Soda Candy, Sour Meron (I think they meant Melon, but that's how they spelled it) soda gummi, Lotte character gummis, and peach and orange gummis. I also bought some wasabi peas and a bunch of incense.
