Ever have one of those days...
... when you feel you just can't win, and can't even lose just go get it over with?
... when you're outside the gym, and can't summon the drive to even walk in the door? ... when you know there's something good around the corner, but you just can't tell how far it'll take to get to the corner? ... when you realize half your music collection is somewhere else? (OK, I doubt anyone else is having that, but it's bumming me out, on a personal level...) ... when you feel like all that's going to come out of your mouth (or your fingers, if we're talking about typing something) is going to be misunderstood, or just not the right thing to say? ... when even if you've checked a lot of items off your To Do List, and still don't feel like you've accomplished anything? ... when you feel like less than yourself? Yeah, I'm having one of those days. Please add bits of your day, so that we may comfort ourselves with our normality.... Or at least so that I can comfort myself with my normality. After all, it is all about me here... ;) |
... when something you've done 100 times before suddenly becomes completley foreign and you can't figure out how the hell to do it again?
|
... when the main reason you remain at a company walks out the door for the last time.
|
...There are days when you're already late going somewhere and you somehow hit EVERY red signal light on the way there.
..There are those work days when you arrive extremely early and stay much later than usual, but there still seems like there's not enough hours in the day to complete your work. ...There are days when you feel so stressed and overwhelmed with work, tasks or responsibilities that you don't even know where to start. Sorry to hear you're having one of those days, Erica. Hoepfully, you'll be over this Manic Monday in a few hours. |
...where your neat idea to ask students a 7-question survey about their research habits turns into an IRB review?
...where you actually manage to complete all the IRB paperwork and training, and no faculty will sign off because it's not their project? Even though it's going for exempt review? |
|
I don't know. I'm having one of those lives lately. The best thing about it is that, I always move on to better days eventually. Frustration is good for th soul - or something.
.....but, why is the sun going down already? |
The question is when I DON'T have one of those days,
|
Man Oh Man is today one of those days...I'm just now decompressing:
This morning I had an appointment (which I had to take off 2 hours from work for) at the local Social Security Office to start the just-married-name-change procedure that every government web site I'd visited said began with the SSN. I'm there in line before the doors open (hearing about "appointments" which were never offered to me on the phone or online) and-but-so-anyway I get to the window finally, with all my paperwork filled out already and in good order, when the clerk informs me that the Federal Government does not recognize the Official, Embossed State of Nevada Marriage License. WHAT????????????? Yes, it's recognized as legally-binding as in we ARE married, but I can't use it for ANYTHING else, like changing my last name! (And let's not have a debate about that, please: I'm doing it for very legitimate business reasons.) She said I had to go to the DMV and get my driver's license changed first. I told her that the DMV website said EXACTLY the opposite. She just shrugged. Now, I have an appointment at the DMV for Friday to do the change...any bet-takers out there? I have the feeling that I'm going to be back here in the "ever-have-one-of-those-days-thread" Friday afternoon! Oh, and part two: On the way to work, after all that fun at the SS Office, ALL the warning lights came on in my car. I had to call in to work that I'd miss the Very Important Meeting I was to attend today. Now, I'm STILL waiting for the quote from the mechanic while I'm sitting in my brand-new, expensive desk chair in my home office, just knowing I shouldn't have spent that money yesterday. OY. :mad: |
I feel for ya, Lizziebith! I've had car troubles off and on all winter- big PITA, and PITW. I waited to change my name for quite a while, but I know I sent my info to SS, and then took my new card and switched my driver's license. Maybe they changed the rules?
|
You know, if society wants women to change their name, shouldn't they make it a bit easier or at least clearer? DAMN!
|
...when you FINALLY get to the office, and then can NOT figure out why something isn't working - and of course, you're under a deadline (After having started working at home at 5 in the morning when you couldn't sleep 'cause you were worrying about getting it all done, not to mention many hours over the weekend spent on it due to a slow as molasses computer)
...when you FINALLY get to go home, and now TWO signals between work and home are not working. (There was only a few weeks when they were all working - this is RIDICULOUS - Katrina was more than 5 months ago!!!) ...and then you get home and realize there is very little food in the house - and all you REALLY want is some WW onion soup from Applebees and one of the WW entrees -- but you know Applebees isn't open on Monday and they don't have a full menu, even if they WERE open. (So you make a batch of soup instead and eat the whole dang thing!) |
...when the one thing you swore you would get done today, gets postponed for a little meeting, that results in some action item, that need your immediate attention, as well as an update on the status on that one thing you were going to get done today.
|
I'm still in my jammies. I took one look outside, and I knew the potential for 'one of them days' was high.
|
:rolleyes: like when i get up and go into the kitchen and can't remember why when i get there.
|
....or you never have enough staff to make work easier.:rolleyes:
...never have enough hours in the day? (I feel like this everyday) :blush: |
...when you have a morning to yourself and instead of doing anything of value you sit on your ass and think about doing things. You even had something planned, but you just stare at life and say "eh."
Nothing more depressing than the unwillingness to act. |

I'm feeling better now. I just knew that sharing it would make it all melt away, and I was correct. It was one of the few really positive and pro-active things I did yesterday. I ended the night on a high note, with a "going away party" of sorts for a former manager, now that the rules are out the door in terms of our being able to get blitzed together, I can see myself hanging out with... a LOT. Needless to say, for most of the day, I managed to be Miss Communication. Thank you for sharing your moments with me in kind. Erica |
...when you type a word and it's correct but for some reason it doesn't look like it's spelled right?
...when you say a normal word over and over and it sounds weird? |
... when no matter what you say, or do, you know that you will spend the eintire day feeling guilty, and in error, because someone else feels you are not living up to what they need.
|
...when you know the answer, but its one that
a) only those with no power would agree with b) those with the power would never agree with in a million years c) the only OTHER answer you can seem to come up with is one that 90+% of law enforcement personel would frown upon and would end with "before turning the gun on himself" (chill folks...Im more or less kidding. :P ) |
...when your spouse comes in from setting out the garbage and says "um, it snowed"? Because this isn't freakin' Spokane here. Why did it snow 2 inches last night and why didn't any of the weather people mention this possiblity?

Welcome to the party, pal.;) We've had Seattle weather nearly all winter, and just when spring is on the horizon we get socked with snow. Hate, hate, hate it. |
I wouldn't hate it so much if I'd had warning. Instead, my 3-times-a-day weather bulletin assured me last night that there might be some flakes, but that the ground was way too warm from our recent 60 degree days for any accumulation. LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!!!!
Of course, it's my own fault for not following the Seattle rule - if they say it will definitely snow, nothing will happen. If they say don't worry, no accumulation? Might as well put on your chains now. |
...when you know someone's been trying to send you a message becasue recent software glitches casue your IM client to crash and it's been crashing all morning.
|
.......and your spouse has given up on trying to get ahold of you via AIM so, it is not me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've gotten a few concerned PMs about my post, and I wanted to thank you guys. I'll be staying put for now, see how things pan out. Your concern means a lot, I just haven't had time to compose replies. |
After all, Lisa, you were pretty cool about my "date" with your hubby last month. I think you might be the coolest mamita linda out there... ;)
|
Well, you and Aud have my blessing to take over my dear hubby after I exit this earth. However, I don't plan on going away too soon. :)
|
Erica,
I hope I can help with the music collection. Will do a hard target search for them. hope they were backed up before Itunes 6.2 got it's paws on them. |
.... when one of those days turns into one of those weeks. God I miss my boss. He was amazing. One of the most amazing people I've ever worked for.
On the plus side I got my paws on some new music and my entire music collection is about to be re-built by the guy who helped me aquire it before. |
...when you start off the day with a car vs. metro bus accident? And you're in the car?
(Catuion: I refuse to take responsibility for anything I may say or type today. I'm not a happy camper. You have been warned.) |
...it's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.
