You should check out Puzzle Japan. They've got Kakro, Sudoku, as several other similar logic puzzles. I've been an addict for years.

I see people on the subway doing these all the time. I'm tempted to try it, but am afraid that I'd get addicted.

What's weird about kakuro is that I've been doing these for years in American puzzle magazines under the name cross sums. I belief the puzzle was invented here, gained popularity in Japan and has now bounced back here with a Japanese name as something new and exciting.

I much prefer these over Sudoku (which I find boring; not necessarily easy, but boring) it is just weird to have people (who know I like doing puzzles) ask if I've seen the new thing out of Japan.


If Dell isn't making much money off this explosion they must be pissed because I believe they were the first to publish the format (don't know who originally developed it).

GD, I'm not finding the logic puzzles at that site. This may perhaps be a filter to keep the stupid people from the good stuff, but could you provide a bit more direction?

Oh, sorry, poor terminology on my part. I didn't mean Logic Puzzles (I get the Dell magazines too), just puzzles that require logic, which is how I think of Sudoku, Kakro, etc. I don't really even think of them as number or math puzzles.

I'm in exactly the same boat, Alex. I've been doing Cross Sums and Number Place puzzles since I was a kid, it's been really bizarre to see this spike in popularity. And I'm also bored by Number Place/Sudoku. Puzzle Japan has 8 different types of puzzles, Sudoku is the only one I routinely ignore.

I'm not finding any puzzles as the web site you linked to. Just a bunch of search results based on various game and toy related topics (as well as non-toy stuff like finding Tokyo housing).

Ooh, I wasn't familiar with the nurikabe puzzle. I think I could enjoy that one.

/Off Topic: ^ No wonder there are so many puzzles involved with MouseAdventure, since Alex usually has a big part in putting them together.

^No wonder GD (and CP) place or win so often in MouseAdventure, among other reasons that you guys rock at MA!

Maybe I'll give these various kinds of puzzles a try--just for fun and maybe improve my thinking/puzzle-solving skills for MA as a side benefit, too. :D

I like the puzzles at Conceptis Puzzles. They've got SuDoku and Kakuro, but I prefer the Picture Logic Puzzles. There are 4 free ones updated weekly that can be done online, and some of the bigger ones are wicked huge! :)

Off topic a bit here, but I always have a suspicion whenever an OP posts a "check this out" and only has that one post on a board.

But the OP does make me wonder what a kakur olive might taste like.
