It's so good to purge
No, those of you who met me know for certain I'm not bullimic.
I ventured into my closet from hell and cleaned out 10 boxes of crap in preparation for packing to move. I admit it, I am a packrat, but even I, the Queen of Packrats, found myself muttering, why did I save this crap, let alone pack it in a box and move it twice? I seriously need to develop the ability to let go! In any case, this was a great start in preps to pack and move. As I trek out to the trash bins with my many bags and boxes of trash, it does feel really good to purge! And I do have a long way to go! |
Can't mojo you for you awesome clean up! Congrats :snap:
|
WTG! Sometimes I feel wasteful getting rid of stuff - someone-somewhere-someday might need it sometime sort-of-thing. But when you can finally part with a load of crap - it's a great feeling and I usually end up wanting to find more stuff to get rid of. Then I go back to hoarding crap again. ;)
|
Same thing for me. I think I really ought to find a new home for the clothes, books, and stuff I know I no longer need.
But my real problem is paper. It's everywhere. And I can't throw most of that stuff away until I shred it, dammit. And I might read that AAA magazine when I have a day off someday--right? I need to purge, too. Keep talking about how great it is, please. ;) |
I'm there with you. I purged a bunch before my recent move, but could use more.
Great job sticking with it! Have a coffee. :coffee: |
You're inspiring me - my closet needs some serious work too.
|
My office move was great for finally getting rid of a ton of corporate detrious I had accumulated. Including an inspirational granit cube (though it may find itself transformed into a Collective Found Artwork of Tomorrow). It's so nice to start fresh.

And at last it has a name! :snap: |
Purging is soooooo rewarding. I should write that on a large piece of paper and tape it to my bathroom mirror.
Well, maybe another location would not give a rise to concern among my friends. |

You're going to MAIL a BLOCK OF GRANITE!?

What cracks me up about this post is that I picture you and Chris sitting ten feet from each other, and instead of turning around and saying, "You're going to MAIL a BLOCK OF GRANITE!?" you posted instead. :p I'm not one to talk though, as I've had many IM convos with a person sitting on the other end of a couch. |

But until then, we shall make them wonder in anticipation. Did you watch it yet? I'm dying to know if you guys were able to sit through the whole thing. I burned a copy for myself, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to watch it again. |
He's actually in the Living Room on the laptop so, while absurd, not as much as usual.
|
And I'm listening to the two of you on Mousepod right now! It's surreal.

The ONLY really good thing I learned when I left my job of 10 years and moved out here was this, after 10 years, I left my firm with 10 bankers boxes of crap, personal crap, paperwork, samples of work and just plain old sh!!t. I swore as I loaded the 10 boxes of crap up, moved them across country and then proceeded to throw every little piece out, that I would never NEVER EVER accumulate so much crap at my office again. If I cannot take my apersonal belongings out in a standard Trader Joe's shopping bag, it's not owrth having. This is the only personal edict with regard to packratting that I have managed to keep. At my job, I can walk out with a small carry bag for my speakers, pictures and a few funky tchochkes (how do you spell that?). Alas, this is not a lesson I have applied to my home. But, I am making an effort to leave here with not a whole hell of a lot more than when I arrived. At least I am now minus 3 huge boxes of VHS tapes. Thanks to everyone for the mojo of encouragement too, this is harder than I thought. I'm trying to be ruthless (which reminds me, appropos of nothing to a favorite song lyric of a friend of mine, looped on one of his tunes "Ruth & Johnny went for a ride, Johhny hit a bump, Ruth hit a tree, Johnny drove on, Ruthlessly") |
You inspired me.
While I was waiting to a decision last night, I cleaned out most of my closet. I removed old clothes that I don't want and set them aside for Out of the Closet then removed the things I like but don't fit. I have to do the same with shoes and sweaters, but I''m half way there! |
Closets....I only wish. I've started with the coffee table, dammit.
Luckily the dinner table isn't too bad. It's not usable for dinner, but that's because I've got a sewing project set up there, which will be put away as soon as I'm done piecing and as soon as I get a nifty basket for all the fabric scraps (so if anyone has any good ideas...). |
I purged my closet last summer: TEN hefty bags went to charity! Since I'm stuck home today with a hurt footie, I'm going to pack up some toys for the Mr. to take to the newly-acquired storage unit...HOORAY!

Sometimes purging can be as addicting as buying junk. I went through a period of throwing stuff out and loved it.
:) |
I love purging. One of the most exciting things about my three kids growing up is getting rid of the stuff they outgrow.

Trust me....there is nothing I have disposed of that would have gotten one red cent on ebay. Stained, not-so-gently used, broken, missing pieces, large holes, colored on....nope, no one would be looking for anything I had on ebay, that's for sure.
|
This has been my project forever but it's so hard to actually do it. My biggest hurdle has been trying to figure out where all the stuff should go, I don't want to throw usable stuff in the trash but bags of clothes etc. intended for charity tend to live with me as long as everything else. This Saturday there's a Household Hazardous Waste Roundup (I'm imagining cowboys doing rope tricks) in Long Beach so I'm getting rid of a dead computer and monitor, some old paint cans, and anything else that will fit in the trunk of my car. But there's so much more left to deal with!
