How long can you resist?

Don't shoot the puppy!

Snowflake 03-31-2006 03:26 PM

About three licks on a tootsie pop, I shot the puppy, my BAD

scaeagles 03-31-2006 03:29 PM

I shot the puppy many times. It was....fun.

Moonliner 03-31-2006 03:34 PM

The puppy?? I would NEVER shoot a puppy, the cute little thing...

Oh, wait a second. I'm already married. Sorry puppy you are going down...

Ghoulish Delight 03-31-2006 03:45 PM

Try to stick around until level 5 (I know, not easy) and keep your eye on the happy face sign. Something mildly satisfying happens at level 5.

Isaac 03-31-2006 03:55 PM

I'm currently at level 12.

:D

Motorboat Cruiser 03-31-2006 04:00 PM

I made it to level 9, then they got me.

Level 7 took an amazing amount of self-control.

Ghoulish Delight 03-31-2006 04:11 PM

I like a program that fully documents how much time I've wasted.

scaeagles 03-31-2006 04:16 PM

For some reason I decided to do it. Don't know why. So I finished "not" shooting the puppy in 10:15.

I wonder why the time variance? Perhaps I got the short version.

Kevy Baby 03-31-2006 04:19 PM

I got as far as level eight before I decided I need to get back to work.

You probably clicked the "skip level" button on level 8 faster. ;)

Stupid level 12

scaeagles 03-31-2006 04:35 PM

I don't recall what happens on each level. Just that I got through it and it was pretty pointless. It was more fun to shoot the dang puppy than to watch it.

Prudence 03-31-2006 05:22 PM

I didn't shoot the puppy in 9 minutes. I've decided to conclude that even my time wasting skills are superior.

Alex 03-31-2006 05:23 PM

I've been not shooting the puppy in another window that I'm not paying attention to since you posted.

I'm guessing I'm not advancing through the levels very quickly.

Nope, you have to start each level manually. Time is only accumulated between when you click "start" and when the puppy finishes. The down-tiem between levels does not count towards your "score."

You have to work to waste time.

Alex 03-31-2006 05:37 PM

As I expected, I am not successfully navigating the levels. But that wasn't the original question. Per the original question I have resisted shooting the puppy for about 2 hours and 15 minutes now. Prior to that I had been unknowingly not shooting the puppy for about 31 years. Unless it gets trickier at higher levels the ability to alt-tab away from the window makes this much easier to do without actually wasting time.

Damn, now I feel compelled to see if it does get trickier.

Alex 03-31-2006 05:49 PM

Huh.

Ghoulish Delight 03-31-2006 06:18 PM

The only "difficult" one I found was #12. I got fooled.

Apparantly you're wrong as I just garnered a time of 50 minutes 36 seconds.

Don't be surprised; it happens a lot!

jdramj 03-31-2006 07:14 PM

ummm......41 seconds! Woohoo! Down with the puppy!

I can't believe people would actually try to do this for very long....you guys are funny. How much did you just get paid to sit at work and do that?

€uroMeinke 03-31-2006 07:48 PM

I have yet to click the link

Kevy Baby 03-31-2006 07:51 PM

Out of sheer obstinance, I had to finish.

11 min, 19 sec.

So far, I haven't been able to not shoot the puppy any faster than one second. I'm trying for 0 seconds.

When is Susan gonna get home?

Not Afraid 04-01-2006 07:51 PM

I made it to level 8 then Scoundrel shot the puppy.

Motorboat Cruiser 04-01-2006 08:03 PM

Well, you can't really blame him. :)

:D

(keep in mind I cheat)
:argghh:

Gemini Cricket 04-02-2006 07:09 AM

I don't understand this game. As soon as I press start the gun fires. My gun fires automatically without me telling it to shoot.
???

Betty 04-02-2006 08:24 AM

The game is not to shoot the puppy. Doing anything makes the gun shoot. So the key to winning is doing absolutely nothing. "Huh?" you think? Have patience and you'll see there's a bit more to it. I got up to level 7 before I simply closed the window.

Kevy Baby 04-02-2006 09:26 AM

Also, one trick that helps is to first align the pointer over the "start" button and then turn your mouse over before clicking. Even the slightest movement will trigger the gun.

Unless you're into that sort of thing.

libraryvixen 04-02-2006 11:49 AM

I spent 9 minutes 57 seconds not shooting the puppy. All the way to Level 15. (Thanks Kevy!)

Alex 04-02-2006 11:59 AM

Here's another trick to get a good time if you really want to goose it.

Click start, being very careful not to move the mouse in the process. Then click alt-tab to go to a different window. Move the mouse all you want and check back in with the game window after a period of time (be sure that when you do so the cursor is outside of the game area). Once you've alt-tabbed you can return to the game window at any time and move the mouse all you want as long as you moved it out of the game area while away and don't move it back into the game area while the level is still playing.

Doing this I got up to level 13 without spending even a moment watching that dog do its thing and still did other things at the same time. Then I accidentally moved the mouse while starting a level. Combining my method with Kevy Baby will make it easy to move through all levels (assuming there is an end) without any difficulty and minimal time wasting.

See, I tried that and ended up shooting the dog.

Patience Grasshopper: there are only fifteen levels until you "win"

Alex 04-02-2006 11:04 PM

Hmmm... alt-tab worked fine for me. Maybe it is a browser thing? I was thinking that the game should have a trigger for shooting the gun if the window loses focus. Perhaps Firefox uses a different focus check than IE (if that is the browser you use).

Gemini Cricket 04-03-2006 05:33 AM

Okay, I get it now.
:D
