How do you like your In-'N-Out?
No, I'm not talking about sex, I'm talking about the restaurant;)
Now that I have been living in Southen California for almost 2 years I have started to get that glazed over look on my face that many of the natives get when thinking about In-'N-Out. So what is your favorite In-'N-Out meal, mine is: Double Double Animal Style hold the tomato, fries and a Neapolitan shake Whats your favorite? |
Double meat, no spread, with ketchup and mustard, raw onions. Fries. Chcolate shake when I'm being totally bad.
|
I'm going to have to eat there next visit- I've never been there, and I hear it's very good. (Which means it's very bad for you, right?)
|
"The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." Double Double. Hold the cheese.
|
Double Double plain with grilled onions, fries and a Dr. Pepper.
|
Never been. Next trip, surely.
Gosh, but I am hungry right now..... |
Double-double, animal-style with a coke.
|
Lived in California for 8 years (and about half a mile from one for a year) and have never eaten there.
Their french fries are terrible and they don't exactly have many options if you don't eat beef. Lani, however, likes whatever the bigger one is with everything but the bun. |
Double Double, Spread the lettuce (no tomato), Grilled Onions.
Fries Root Beer |
I used to order:
double meat animal style, raw onions instead, x-tra pickles dr. pepper, root beer or a strawbery shake Now I order grilled cheese animal style, raw onions instead, x-tra pickles dr. pepper or root beer If I order fries they are either animal style, or x-tra crispy w/ a side of spread. |
I didn't know you could get extra crispy fries. I love them the way they are but I'm intrigued.
I've been good most of the time lately: #3 - Hamburger, grilled onions, fries and a coke or Hamburger Animal Style, hold the pickles, grilled onions, and a coke Bad: Hamburger Animal Style, hold the pickles, grilled onions, fries, and a chocolate shake. After that meal I'm a sleepy beached whale. I've never had a double...I think it would kill me. Maybe if I went Protein Style, but I really gotta have the bread. |

And now, beached whale syndrome slowly creeps in... :) |

And I think I shall have In n Out tomorrow. |
What the hell is animal style? I mean, I know what I'm thinking of, but that doesn't generally involve fast food restaurants.

watches Alex run from this thread... |
I went to In N Out last week. The girl at the drive through gave me my drinks and went to get the food. I saw the next person's drinks sitting on the counter in a holder with straws in the holder too. This reminded me that I needed to make sure I got my straws. I looked over at my drinks and the straws were already in them, paper completely off. This weirded me out big time, but the girl handed me my food so quickly and rushed off that I didn't have a chance to say anything. I thought about waiting there, but I figured, what's the worst that could happen? So I risked it.
On topic: Single w/cheese, w/onions and extra pickles, no sauce, with ketchup and mustard, fries, chocolate shake. Michael likes his plain. |
Don't care for their shakes. But now that I'm eating again, double double no tomato raw onion.
|
There are a lot of sites devoted to covering the "Secret Menu" though they mostly all list the same things. You can even find one abbreviated listing on In N Out's own web site.
When not doing low carb, it is a Double Double Animal Style, no pickles, fries and an extra large iced-tea. On low carb it is a 3X3, Protein Style, Animal Style No Pickles and an iced tea (no fries - duh). I like to enjoy a cheddar Thin Krisp with this if I can. Susan gets a Cheeseburger with grilled onions and spread only, fries and a medium or large Coke with extra ice. |
3X3

Double double no onions.
Fries no salt. Choc shake or iced tea. :) |

I like my In-N-Out like I like my men:
Hot, fresh, a little bit o' cheese, nice buns and no onions... animal style... :D |
I'll take a plateful of White Castle sliders over In N Out anyday, though...
Or even a Culver's Butterburger with a frozen custard. (especially their Caramel Apple sundae- I plan side trips around visits to Culvers for that one) :D |
Judas!
:lightning strikes, thunder booms: :D |
I guess I'm really a heretic, cuz I'll go to In N Out for my burger, then get fries from the McDonalds down the street :D

Did someone call my name? |
Song titles that come to mind for this thread...
"The Legend of the Golden Arches" and "Cruising For Burgers" by Frank Zappa :) |
Y'know, I have to thank CoasterMatt for bringing up White Castle. There were no In-n-out burgers in New Jersey, so a sack of sliders, onion rings and an extra thick shake at 4am was always the perfect end to a night on the town.
That was, of course, until I discovered Gray's Papaya. 2 grilled all-beef hot dogs with wet onions, dijon mustard and kraut with a medium papaya drink for $1.85. My mouth is watering already. Thankfully, I'm going to NY tomorrow so I will have the ability to indulge. And indulge I shall. |
McDonald's is the place
hamburgers in your face french fries up your nose and pickles between your toes! |

Ok, I've had the White Castle burgers that come frozen and they were so disgusting. Is this the same thing? |
Not even close!
(Even when you steam the frozen ones per the instructions on the box, it's just NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME!) |
Double meat, animal style, no fries.

First, they ladle out chopped onions onto a very hot grill. Then, they take the burgers (square little things with 5 holes) and lay them on top of the onions. A good White Castle cook can deal the burgers onto the grill with the finesse of a great Vegas blackjack dealer. Next, the buns are placed on top of the burgers. Bottom half directly onto the burger, and top on top of the bottom. Since the burgers are perforated and the grill is so hot, they are never flipped. Finally, with a spatula, the cook lifts each burger from the grill, inverts it, adds ketchup (and/or cheese), sticks the top half of the bun in its rightful place and slides the burger into a box. Ten burgers make a sack. Eat 'em hot. Chew minimally. When I was in high school, they were informally known as "sliders", "belly bombers" or "murder burgers". White Castle was an important part of growing up in the 'burbs. Local punk band Ism wrote the classic tune "White Castle at 3AM", that went something like this: Quote:

However... they do have a similar flavor to the frozen, so if you werent intrigued you might not like them. But I agree with Mousepod, the middle of the night is the best way. But for me, I loved walking with my cousins, buying thirty or forty and going home to the aunts and uncles and sharing. This ritual would occur many times during my vacations as a child, Esp, the first day. |
I've never had a White Castle.
|
The song by my namesake band notwithstanding, I really miss me some White Castle burgers.
In-and-Out is barely a poorman's substitute. I'd never heard of 'Animal Style' before. And now that I have, I can studiously avoid it (I loathe mustard). |

No White Castles in Boston???

White Castle is good, but Gemini Cricket is BETTER...
I'm glad I scanned this thread before I typed what I was going to type: I like my In & Out, like I like my In-Out In-Out... Double-double, animal style, with cheese... ;) Actually, I either get the cheese burger regular style or animal style with cheese... And BTD: How can you have animal style with no animal in there? I mean, really... ;) |
Now I'm in major White Castle drool mode. Just visited the website. I think I need this glow-in-the-dark White Castle pillowcase with "Time to hit the sack" written on it.

Steak N Shake is also fairly good - reminds me an awful lot of Bob's Big Boy, and there's one close to WDW that we hit every time we're in Orlando
|
 Why is it called 'Animal Style' when it adds no animal product?

I think it's because animals eat veggies, and that is what you are adding.

checkers... I see checkers in my memory........... NA, really.... the one we always went to in Indianapolis was next to nothing, and this white shack. (well a castle, but not something that jumped out) I love them, and I would know to go to it if I saw a white castle anywhere... but I never had the impression they would jump out to the eye that didnt know what they were. |

We used to provide veggies for the San Diego Zoo for the animals to eat. The "industry" term is "Forage". I'm changing the name of animal Style to Forage Style. Makes sense, no?
|
Cheeseburger, grilled onions, fries and a medium diet.
Now at Johnny Reb's have to have the sweet potato fries |
RON!
Hey, I need to talk to you. Your email got returned. Please PM me your correct email. |
So I read this thread last night and share it with Matthew. Within 20 minutes, we are headed to In-n-Out. Now, I just get home from work and all I want is some good deli. Preferrably a corned beef and swiss on rye with a knish on the side. Of course, there in nothing like that within driving distance but my inner cravings do not understand that. All I know is that the planned Trader Joes spinach pie with Feta sounded great this morning. Now, not so great.
And Mousepod, I am so jealous that you are going to NY. Man, I miss the food! The pizza, the baked pasta, the italian ices, the knishes, etc... Eat something yummy for me, ok? |
I had no idea we were so backwater up here. No In-n-Out, no White Castle - pretty much no anything that's been mentioned thus far.

I think this thread is a conspiracy to make me want to move back to California.
In-N-Out...drooool. :) |
Say, I just ate at that very Steak N' Shake last week. You have to be careful. On certain nights, there are two clowns at that restaurant, making balloon animals and generally lousing the place up with their scary chipperness. Also, that's the most cleanliness-challenged S&S in the area. But I eat there anyway.
Oh, I like my In n' Out just basic double double. Maybe I'll indulge this weekend. |
Not a fan of In-n-Out but I crave me the White Castles! I tried the frozen ones once, and once was enough. Nasty.
The real ones? Fresh? OMG. yes. My mom laughs at me every time I go home, we have to stop and feed my addiction. My dad understood; the White Castle stop on the way home was mandatory. |
I never understood the White Castle thing. Maybe you have to grow up with them. When I did a trip with a group of people into White Castle country one person in the group insisted we stop. Everybody who had never had one before didn't really care for them (I didn't have one myself since they're made of cow so maybe I'd love them).
But whenever I visit the parents I do have to stop for lunch at Burgerville, so I understand the compulsion. |

I like hot dogs best! Carney's is the absolute hot doggity (literally)! I always feel guilty eating meat. I wish I had the strength to give it up. If I had to have In-N-Out? Protein style I suppose, with cheese. No sauce. Just ketchup & mustard. Can I choose Carney's instead? Der Weinerschnitzel? Wait..I like those 'nilla milkshakes In-N-Out serves. And the strawberry shakes are my favorite! I haven't had one in years! Yum! As for sex? That's with my boyfriend, animal-style, with me spread. :p |
Oooh....we do have Burgermaster up here. They're pretty cool.
Oooh! Dick's! How could I forget Dick's? |
I was gonna remind you of that, Prudence. Not to mention that we unleashed the evil that is Starbucks on an unsuspecting, not fully caffeinated population!
Do you have Zip's over there? Best tarter sauce anywhere. |
Except that I don't drink coffee, so Starbucks is never the first thing on my mind. But I am really ashamed that I didn't think of the Seattle instutition that is Dick's. Hell, wasn't it even in Singles? Or am I imagining things?
|
I think it was. My friend's brother was!
|
Cool! My friend from dance class was in the Twin Peaks pilot. Which is vaguely food related, if you consider the pie.

Wow... How quickly the topic can change hmmmmmmmmm.....
By the way, I dig a plain single lettuce and cheese burger. That is all. I have some sort of phobia about tomatoes in my sandwiches, salads, and burgers. Oh and I hate any sort of liquid oozzzzzzzzzzzzing out of my sandwich or burger. SO no mayo, no spread of any sort. Although I just recently gave up cheese for a while and quite frankly I can't eat a burger without cheese. I guess I don't really like the taste of fast food meat. Kind of gross. |
Ha! I thought I was the only one on the planet who eats my burgers "plain"! Thanks. :)
|
Oh no my dear!!! You could say we are burger purists.
|
Hey, I always eat my burgers "plain" - with the sometimes exception of onions and/or chili
|
Well then, CoasterMatt you are a purist as well.
