Lexicon of Swank

It's come to my attention that we need to start capturing some of the terms and concpets developed over here in the Lounge of Tomorrow, so let me start the first entry based on a few conversations from this week:

Hipmosis – the theory by which the level of hipness between a group of individuals remains a constant, so that a less hip person becomes more hip by associating with a more hip person. As a consequence, a hip person can loose some acquired hipness by associating with the unhip

Dark Hipness – Much like dark mater it is hipness that permeates the universe unseen and undetected. Usually it is the source of new trends, where once discovered become totally illuminated and trendy till it runs it’s course

Swanketechture – Design elements that enhance building or structure’s swankness

Hedon – A measure of pleasure (Click here for more details)

Vaginismas - a celebration of the sacred feminine, on a date to be discovered via examination of ancient scrolls and discarded tampons. All manner of sexually suggestive and feminine-hygene oriented festivities and traditions await development ... once the swanky gals around here get off their butts and pick a date for this subsequently annual holiday.

Seems we need to add a few more from the breakfest menu:

Pancake - (verb) - To edit apotentially offesive or inflamatory post replacing it with an innocuous statement such as, "I like pancakes."

Bacon - The top, the ultimate, the pinnacle of swank. e.g. "Did you read LSPE's story? that was real bacon" (antonyme of Sauasage)

Sausage - Second rate, a failed attempt at being swank. e.g "He thought he was bacon, but was sausage all the time."

So, since Greg isn't "Bacon" here at LoT, does that mean he's a sausage?
:D

Yes, he's responsible for the swanketechture of this site that enables us to reach a high level of hipmosis.

What, no vegetarian option here? Am I just stuck with pancakes?

Ghoulish Delight 05-17-2006 10:09 AM

We can accept veggie-bacon.

We await the circumstances to create more - to be sure there's plenty of foodstuffs left for breakfest, even for vegans.

Unless it's tofu-related.
;)

Carstipation - When you try and start your car but it won't turn over. (Compliments of Click and Clack from NPR)

Grumbledore - A person who is a master wizard at complaining.

Cuddleingus - What happens when a cuddle party goes to 2nd base. (A Ralphie word.)

Craptastic - The opposite of fantastic.

Ghoulish Delight 06-17-2006 09:50 AM

3rd base.

€uroMeinke 06-24-2006 11:58 AM

Disillusionist - One who spoils the "magic" for others by revealing how tricks are performed or otherwise dispelling the fantasies, hopes, and dreams of others. (e.g. I didn't realize Kevy Baby was such a disillusionist untile he pulled off Santa's beard in fron of the children.)

Farewellagen - The act of repeatedly saying goodbye to the same person or group of people as you attempt to leave a park, party, or other social event.

Thank you for remembering to capture these.

The former came about after we were standing by a lamp post near the NOS train station bathrooms, waiting for some to complete their business. I noticed that one of the bases of a "steel" lamp posts actually moved by a good couple of inches near the ground. I was responsible killing a dream

:sigh:

Swanks Constant - The principle that in any group of hipsters, one will always owe at least one other a drink, thereby requiring a stop at a bar to repay one's debt. However in so doing so, at least one other person is bought a drink thereby ensuring that another rounds will have to be exchanged sometime in the future - thus in the attempt to achieve equilibrium many drinks are had and many bars and lounges are visited.

Sort of the ultimate 'pay it forward'?

I see GD, CP and Chris were in a Vegas bar recently coming up with new terminology.

So that's what the kids are calling it these days.

Morrigoon 10-20-2008 09:30 AM

Did you wake up the next morning with a hanging participle?

JWBear 10-20-2008 09:43 AM

Only if they sleep naked.

The correct vernacular is "dangling participle."

JWBear 10-20-2008 10:29 AM

Maybe she was thinking of Hanging Chad....

If they do a good job of hanging Chad, would Chad be considered to be...

JWBear 10-20-2008 12:20 PM

Properly executed?

Yes but that didn't sound as much like a hangover, sounds more like....

Morrigoon 10-20-2008 08:59 PM

So I just came up with a new term, which, though not yet part of the Lexicon of Swank, aspires to become so:

PhotoSlopped - hastily (and therefore, poorly) edited photo/image

Cadaverous Pallor 10-20-2008 10:33 PM

I owe € a drink

Morrigoon 10-20-2008 10:39 PM

And thus it begins

lashbear 10-21-2008 03:06 AM

Cheesephoria. - The happy feeling you get when you announce that your Cheese Is Sad, and then the LoT gathers around and cheers you up. (Also the state of mind after a rigorous ThinKrisp Session)

Swank never happens to me in bars, yet it almost always in a serious jewelry store.
