Disneyland Update: Dry and Wet

Last week during my days off work, I ventured out of DTD and into the park to get some pics of the ongoing construction work in Tomorrowland.

These pics of the Submarine Lagoon were taken on Monday:

Two days later, the lagoon was refilled with water and the subs were moved out of the show building and into the outdoor docks. The subs had to be moved out of the show building to install the new effects & scenery, but the subs could not be moved if the lagoon was still dry. Expect the lagoon to be drained again as construction progresses.

The new version of the submarine voyage will require a larger queue than the previous one. To create a larger queue, the existing walkway by the Monorail Station will be moved in towards Tomorrowland Terrace, removing a small portion of their seating area.

The planters & walkways on the opposite side of Tomorrowland Terrace are being reworked to create room for additional tables to compensate for the ones that will be removed.

Over in DCA, the Main Street Electrical Parade has a brand new sponsor:

Sylvania (for those who don't know) is a light bulb company. As iSm put it "Now THAT'S synergy, baby!" They're also sponsoring the Parade Of Dreams in Disneyland.

So that's the latest from Disneyland.

I leave you now with some pics of the ducklings in Frontierland.
Enjoy!

Ugh, a zillion pictures and you didn't post my favorite one. (The one where you can see the by-now-accustomed-to seafloor markings through the water in the now-flooded lagoon.)

But those baby duck photos make up for it. Especially that last one. The water pattern and the duckling make for a work of art.

I don't know if it's because of Passover ... but with all those dry lagoon shots of men working, followed by lagoon shots of floating submarines ... I can't help thinking that the workmen all drowned as the lagoon was flooded!

Thanks for the pics!

LOL! You're such a Jew! :p :D

With the lagoon filled, it REALLY looks like a big RCT game.

Snowflake 04-17-2006 02:16 PM

The grid lines remind me of the Neptune Pool at San Simeon for some reason. Very wonderful photos! Makes me all warm and fuzzy to see the lagoon full of water, even if it is just temporary.:D

Think about how many red longjohns they'd have to add to the park!

CoasterMatt 04-17-2006 07:26 PM

I think they'd be red lederhosen... :)

Mary Blairiffic 04-17-2006 08:54 PM

Welcome ( and cool name!)

How did you hear about us?

Mary Blairiffic 04-17-2006 09:05 PM

I was looking around, doing some recon for a potential visit to Disneyland Paris and came upon your site via some link or other. I rarely join boards, but this one has so many interesting people contributing to it. I may have found my cyber home...:)

Wow , great photos. Thanks so much. Sylvania huh? No more General Electric? Times are changing.

CoasterMatt 04-17-2006 10:30 PM

General Electric owns it's own theme parks, now :)

In unexpected ways. I haven't heard of Sylvania since the 60's, when they were consumer famous for camera flashbulbs.

I had to clue zapppop as to the electric parade synergy - 'cause, being born in the 80's, he'd never heard of Sylvania.

I guess everything old is new again. :D

He was born in '79. And I in '78, yet, I've heard of Sylvania (they make lightbulbs, you know)

I'm dating myself, I know, but they used to make flashbulbs.

I have a pack of unused bulbs for a 126 camera. You need some? ;)

Cadaverous Pallor 04-18-2006 03:55 PM

Hey, I knew Sylvania too.

Awesome report. Those ducklings are beyond cute. I love this time of year at the resort.

innerSpaceman 04-18-2006 04:06 PM

Hmmm, yes, there needs to be a verb for that which is beyond cute so that we could properly describe those ducklings!

€uroMeinke 04-18-2006 04:15 PM

Kawaii!

Ghoulish Delight 04-18-2006 04:25 PM

CoasterMatt 04-18-2006 04:55 PM

Those duckys are so cute, they made me feel all squishy inside...

They're squishy cute.

DisneyFan25863 05-07-2006 11:00 AM

I thought Sylvania was a pre-packaged food company

Awesome pictures! Are the subs moving under their own power?
