Disney geek confessions
I don't really get the goat trick. I think I look the wrong way or something. I'm not really even sure what's supposed to happen.
My first few times on Pirates I was bored. |
Sometimes I avoid Splash Mountain like the plague. I love the ride, but I hate being wet alllll day.
I can't wait for the castle to be un-decorated. |
Damnit, where's that "ban" button?
|

:D :p (I sense fists of death coming from GD....) |
Quote:
And... I hate Autopia. Always have.... prob always will. |
I enjoy Innoventions.
In the entire Disneyland Resort there is only one ride that I have any active interest in riding. Everything else I would be fine with never riding again though I'm happy to go because other people want to. I have never been on any of the carousels. I've never seen Mary Poppins, Bambi, or Dumbo. I consider Snow White to be a technical achievement for its time but an incredibly boring movie. It took several attempts before I got through The Lion King without falling asleep. |

:D |
I don't care what Walt would think. Walt's dead.
|
Quote:
And someone, please explain the goat trick! |
I really don't care that much about the movie side of the business. I'm all about the park.
|
Quote:
I can't mojo you, but that cracked me up! |

I like DCA
|
Quote:
I can't watch any of the princess movies over and over. Maybe 'Beauty' and that's about it. |
There is much that I like about the theme parks. I'm just not much of a ride person though I could happily spend many days just wandering around watching people and the theming. I have no interest at all in straight amusement parks.
Once I've ridden a ride, I've ridden it. Generally there isn't much to be gained from a repeat performance. I'm not sure what you need explained about the goat trick. It sounds like you know what you're supposed to do and what is supposed to happen (lock eyes on the goat, get queasy). I may just not work for you. It definitely doesn't for me but I'm not prone to motion sickness or vertigo. |
I hate churros.
|
Quote:
I was never sitting in the back when I tried to do it. I'm not prone to motion sickness either. I never got what was supposed to happen, I just tried watching the goat. |

I don't care for Monte Cristos (I enjoy about the first four bites and then I've had enough). To compensate I really like the apple pie available at Plaza Inn.

My confession: I will only go on Storybook Land if :ism: is there. Otherwise, it is a much hated and despised ride. Of doom. |
There are only a couple rides I really enjoy. I would rather just take the park in. I do enjoy riding rides with people that have not been to the park in a while.
I am just as happy reading a book at the hub and observing. I think a majority of AP's are selfish and rude. If in pursuit of getting what they think they are entitled to, they detract from other paying guests experience, that is just wrong, IMO. This is not directed at anyone in particular.I wasn't thinking of anyone on the boards here so don't get all offended and think I directing this at you, unless it applies. |
I avoid King Arthur Carrousel unless I have my iPod with me.
|
Quote:
Quote:
That may be sig-worthy. |
Quote:

I've been know to confuse Cinderella and Snow White.... When it comes to castles.
|
I didn't know the carrousel had a new soundtrack.
|
They changed it around May 5th. :(
|
Well, then, next time I go to DL I'll have to bring my own soundtrack. Or maybe not--I rarely go on the carrousel.
Another of my confessions: I don't care for Mickey's Philharmagic. |
I've never ridden Autopia and probably never will.
I like DCA. I'm so not into anything Princess. Give me a good villain any day! I haven't ridden Splash Mountain in a very long time. I hate being wet. I know very little about anything Disney does in the movie side. |
I think Pooh and Friends are WAY too over-marketed. I'd like to see much less of them so I can actually like them again.
I get a bit ill on Star Tours, so I don't like to ride it. :( I really miss Captain EO and wish they'd bring it back. |
Quote:
Remember, I've been to your house and I'm writing a tell-all book about it. Quote:
I've never been to Playhouse Disney. I HATE the Monster queue and I will try to NEVER stand in it again. I hated Space before the rehab. I will never eat a Turkey leg and I hate Fantasia ice cream. I get sick of all of the attractions if I ride them too much. I have a growing dislike of Disney-related message boards. |
Quote:
I know I am not lilly white. Should you have kept that observation to yourself like the above stated? and before anyone gets all huffy, NA and I have had this discussion off boards and are ribbing each other. |

Should I have kept it to myself? Why? This is a discussion board and, by discussing things, I might learn something. |

I love looking to the side and backwards while riding coasters, especially Big Thunder. Makes everything seem faster and unexpected. The goat trick is a cool version of this. The force of the turn makes it thrilling.
I hated the Country Bears, and was bored by the People Mover as a kid. I always say those in these threads. I have little interest in spending a huge wad on a trip to Florida. I'd rather go elsewhere. Even after going to DLP, I have only minor interest in WDW. I'd go to Tokyo sooner. I hate Eisner with a passion but I hope he gets the credit he's due for his amazing work in the 80's and early 90's. I love McDonald's fries and sometimes wish I could stop and buy some from the Westward Ho/Fowlers without everyone ripping me apart, which I know would be inevitable. I've never dared to do so. Maybe a certain person I know that turned down a job at DCA had a similar point of view... |
I share your feeling about WDW. I love Epcot but could do without the rest. Part of that is the weather. I HATE FLorida weather with a passion.
|
I find myself walking around the resort trying to figure out how to make it into a MA type puzzle...or looking for eye-spy's...
I don't love a parade |
I LOVE Florida weather.
|
I'm with you on the French Fries, CP. I personally don't care that McDonald's has a presence in the park and must admit that having never eaten them is a rare of instance of me cravenly caving to peer pressure.
For me it is interesting how my perception of the parks has changed because of MousePlanet. For me, Disneyland is almost completely synonomous with "work" while Walt Disney World is still synonymous with "vacation." For that reason, my preference tilts slightly towards Florida. |
Most Disney sites have come to bore me, though I do like many of the people who post on them.
I don't even follow the internet updates anymore. Usually I'll just as Zapppop for the latest. I don't care for Churos, Turkey Legs, or Mickey shaped ice creams I find that I like Nightmare Before Christmas less with each viewing My only interest in the Disney Princesses is sexual - that probably goes for the evil queen as well, though I do also like the way she dresses. |
The monte cristo has gotten to greasy for me, but I love the prime rib and Blue Bayou potatoes.
I don't like turkey legs but I'm sure my son would love them if I ever bought him one. Fantasia ice cream sounds gross to me. I've only been on the carousel once, standing by my sons horse, and it stopped at the top and he was terrified. He refuses to go on one since then. I haven't been on a lot of rides in DCA. I still love going to Muppets 3D with my son, his giggle makes me smile. We went 9 times in one trip, 5 times in one day! We have been known to run to DCA just for Muppets. |
Quote:
I think it's kinda dumb when you see a character at the park and they're in an earlier form of the character. Like when you see Ariel and she's a mermaid. I know, duh, that's her popular form, but wouldn't it be cooler if you saw her in that cute dress, walking around with Eric, saying how great it is that she's married to him and all? Same goes for Belle and the Beast - he should be a face character, post-transformation. |
I think turkey legs and churros are gross.
I like DCA. I'm not a huge Indiana Jones fan. The goat trick doesn't work for me either. I'm not a huge parade fan, seen it once no need to wait again. Same goes for fireworks. |

So, Alex, will we ever learn what one ride has repeat value for you? And speaking of repeating rides, here is my own observation. On any given visit to Disneyland, and those only happen every few years, it doesn't pay for me to go on anything more than once. When I do take in a favorite ride a second or third time, the result is a diminishing enjoyment and increased focus on what isn't working or how it might be improved. On the other hand, those rides that I visit only once stay burnished and bright in memory. My visit of two weeks ago took place during an ungodly crowded weekend, so I only got one shot on any given attraction. So, it worked out swell. My own "confessions" - I hate turkey legs - I love "It's a Small World" (but only once per visit, please!) - I'm over Fantasmic (on either coast) - I love 'El Rio del Tiempo" |
No, you'll never learn. It is a personal secret because otherwise everybody will feel like they're dragging me on to rides. Which isn't true, I am more than happy doing rides with other people, I just wouldn't ride them if left to my own.
I very rarely play an active role in choosing what to ride except occasionally throwing something random out to break a tie in the "what do you want to do? I don't know, what do you want to do?" game. |
The "following you with their gaze" illusion has never worked for me with the busts in the Mansion hallway. They just look like impressions of busts. Everytime I go through, I feel compelled to tell someone this fact.
I would enjoy Splash Mountain if I didn't get soaked. My AP expired on April 6th. I feel somewhat self-conscious when cast members recognize me as a regular. I secretly hope they leave the tiaras on the Castle. I don't like the bunting or the Barbie railing. I love it, but I'll be happy when they end the site-centric fireworks show. I hate that Fantasmic has ruined nighttime New Orleans Square. No problem with McDonald's in the Park, but - why did they take away one of my favorite food locations? Sell the damn fries in the existing foods locations. Ever since the Dapper Dans started using microphones I've felt that they should be replaced. I hate the Trashcan Trio except as pre-parade entertainment. I also hate cast member led screaming contests. |
Really, is there anyone who actually does enjoy cast member led screaming contests? (I guess there must be, as some do participate in them, but egad!)
I used to be involved in teaching cast member workshops which covered various performance and courtesy skills. I began one of those classes by enthusiastically shouting a perky,"Are you all feeling happy?!?" This was met silence and glares from the cast, naturally. I followed up with, "I can't heeeear you!!" Some of them moaned, and rightfully so. I apologized for the awfulness of that opening, and then let the cast know that most guests feel exactly the same way about what we call "cheerleading." I'd like to think that everyone in that class immediately stopped doing it, but I'm afraid I know otherwise. |
Quote:

One of them replaced Harbor Galley's menu with just the McDonald's French Fries. For the life of me I can't remember if there was a food cart at the wagon location before McDonald's moved in there.
|
I've purchased McD's fries on about 6 occasions, and from both locations.
|
Quote:
Hmm....Alex's repeat ride....which of these is not like the others..... I think Westward Ho was built for McD. Quote:
|
I like McDonald's fries and eat them at the Park whenever I get a desire to have some and I can cinvince myself that said desire is strong enough to pay attention to.
|
I prefer the fries at Award Wieners - especially their chili fries
|
I've never been on the Haunted Mansion.
|
And its taken two minutes for anyone to say something????
Wow... I'm impressed Scaeagles. I was unaware that was possible. ;) |
Oh dear. Maybe we DON'T want to meet this guy.

I can't eat a serving of Tonga Toast by myself.
I like DL Space Mountain SO much more that at WDW. |

I thought he already confessed to liking Innoventions - I think there's little risk anyone will drag him there
|
Quote:
How? Why? Huh? |
I don't like Tower of Terror but I do like Mulholland Madness (though I think it would be much cooler as a dark ride.
I have never seen Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty and like others have said, have much more of a fascination with the park than the movies. I actually liked the Motorboat Cruise. I didn't like Monsters Inc. (but haven't seen the movie) and especially hated the qeue. |
I think 'Remember' is too complicated for its own good. Though I dred the has-to-be-inferior eventual replacement, I will applaud a show that can be performed more than 50% of the time.
I hate churros. Um, correction, I have never had a churro. They do not appeal to me at all. I would rather Fantasmic play on weekends only. Playhouse Disney is the only resort attraction I have never experienced, and I don't plan to change that. I'm sad that I haven't snuck backstage in well over a year, maybe two. If the cone shop is open before nightfall, I will not be able to resist the occasion. |

Admitting to rides unexperienced I have never been on Pinocchio, King Arthur's Carrousel, the main street vehicles (other than the bus), Gadget's Go Coaster, Snow White Musical, Aladdin musicle, Playhouse Disney, Maliboomer, Jumpin' Jellyfish, Orange Stinger, King Triton's Carousel, or Golden Zephyr. It isn't that I'm opposed to actually doing any of those (except for the carousels) but rather that I've never yet been in a group of people that did any of them. |
Playhouese Disney, Ladybug Boogie, & Jumping Jellyfish are the only attractions in the resort I haven' done
|
I (lately) prefer the films to the park. The good ones, I mean. I just haven't felt like going. It's possible my AP is going to lapse for awhile.
I think that the "wishes" section of Remember is annoying, and the "Shenendoah" is incongruous, despite the Rivers of America reference. I have never ridden any of the Bug's Land rides, I have never ridden any of the kiddie rides on Paradise Pier, and I have never seen Golden Dreams. I cry when I hear parade music but I don't really enjoy the parades. I have never been inside the Disneyland Hotel. Having grown up with it, there's a fondness and nostalgia for WDW in my heart that can only be felt-by-proxy at DL. |
I ADORE almost all of the Disney Live Actions films. Almost all.

i hate the spanish announcments on Haunted Mansion ive never ridden tower of terror, dumbo, and the rocket jets I lie each time to the tortilla factory that my sister is outside and she needs a tortilla also just so i can have 2. i wish i could see the draw bridge to the castle go up and down been doing the goat trick for 14 years now and still love it thought i was the only one who knew of the goat trick until i read this thread. hahaha.... i like ridding the the Matterhorn with a cute girl. shwing! Mc Donalds wagons make me sick by the very sight of them. I feel like they removed the **** and balls trick on Walts status because of me. I talked about taking a picture of it on day and some cast members were close by and over heard me. when i visited the park a week later, it was closed up for refurbishment. I am so not interested in pin trading |

My first child was actually born on the same day that the last Maint St. Electrical Parade ran through DL. We saw it the night before, due to my upcoming induction the next morning.
I have never been on the Columbia. I didn't open my eyes on the Haunted Mansion until I was 16 years old. They took away my leather jacket at Grad Night, becuase it had a zipper (it was plastic for goodness sake), and it was misplaced. |

I like turkey legs.
I often have been to the park (from open to close) and did not ride anything at all. One of my favorite spots at the park is TSI. One of my favorite spots in DCA is inside the Animation Bldg. I have never been on Mullholand Madness, the Sun Wheel, the Zephyr, the Maliboomer and that one in the large orange. I never liked The Nightmare Before Christmas, but enjoy the overlay for the HM. But after seeing it several times, I think I enjoy the soundtrack more than the ride itself. I trip out over the smallest addition to the park. The small touches make me happy. I love Peter Pan's Flight but hate to wait in that frickin' line. I point out the Wicked Queen's window to complete strangers often. They seem to appreciate it. I liked the atmosphere of Big Thunder BBQ and wished it was back. I think Nathan Lane in The Lion King is hysterical. While posting this, I got goosebumps listening to Walt's section of 'Parade of Dreams'. :D |

In many ways, I am bored with Disneyland. Two exceptions are the fireworks and Fantasmic! The main thing that keeps me going back are spending time with friends.
I'm very tired of Pirates. The only thing that makes it intereting for me is the prospect of a sinking. I would like to ride Splash more often, but the wait sucks. Pooh sucks. Like Disneyphile, Star Tours makes me ill and I don't ride it (although I do not mind waiting while others ride it) and I miss Captain Eo. R2P2 is my favorite "regular" place to eat in DL. On the subject of rude APs: if I see someone (who appears to be a mundane) looking at the map and looking like they are confused, is it rude to offer assistance on how to get where they want to be? |

I know for myself I have a lot more knowledge than some others care to know, and remembering to just give the assistance that is asked. Then if they inquire more and I can expand on my vast minutiae knowledge. As long as I remember they asked the time, not how to build a watch, I don't walk away thinking that I may have scared them. :D |
Oh, I've never been to Mission Tortilla at DCA. IN fact, I don't even know where it is.
I can make a Hidden Mickey with my face. |

I have the giant guitar pick Joe Perry (from Aerosmith) used to strum the giant guitar outside of Rock N Rollercoaster at it's opening ceremony.
I've ridden RnRC enough times in one day that the CMs starting announcing the number of times I'd ridden that day - I even got to do the welcome spiel before a group was let into the pre-show room. |
The Tiki Room is boring.
I prefer not to ride Pinoccio but I will ride it or wait as others ride it. I can't tell the difference between fresh and "imported" DL candy. Fantasia ice cream is gross. I couldn't care less about Disney movies. I haven't seen most of them and have no real desire to watch them. I'm excited to see what the new version of PotC will bring I'm slightly disappointed there will be no Rock-IT Mountain; though I am happy that if it was done cheaply it won't be displayed I wasn't going to renew my AP but I had to play tourguide to family a few days after it expired. Along those lines, I don't think I could ever buy a 1 day ticket again. I would never judge CP for buying McDonalds fries if she wants to buy them. Now Alex on the other hand... |
I used to like Fantasia Ice Cream until they did that Fantasia Ice Cream pin promotion and I ate at least one Fantasia Deseert every week for a month or so - now I'm kanda glad it's not an option at the moment
|
I confess I lied.
Inadvertently. I forgot ... I've also never ridden either the Maliboomer or the Golden Zepher. If the winds are not above 2 miles per hour when I'm walking by one rare DCA day, I wouldn't mind riding the Zepher. I am sad that G.C. never showed me his hidden Mickey face. I am incredulous that they removed Walt's little friend from the Partners statue. What, did they cut off Mickey's nose, or move him 8 inches towards the Castle? I am sick of Haunted Mansion Holiday. Oh, and I confess that although I was one of the loudest complainers that its first year soundtrack did not feature any 'Nightmare Before Christmas' music, I think the first year soundtrack was actually a zillion times better than the replacement with the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' music. |
I enjoyed the Golden Zephyr the two times I rode it. It's not like I expected it to be Space Mountain. It's fun to be above the water.
I, too, am sick of Mansion Holiday and hope it will go away soon. How could they possible "remove" the "Walt's little friend" effect? |
I can't think of a single restaurant or ride that I haven't been in the park. (I've been in Club 33, just haven't eaten there.)
The best time I had in DCA was during the castmember preview with my grandma. We drank wine and had a silly time laughing, even though it was sprinkling. I have not renewed my annual pass, nor do I intend to, for an undetermined amount of time. |
The last time I was at the park was July 18, 2005.
Scary, man, scary. |
Me too, GC.:(
|
I dislike Turkey legs because this is not Medievil Times.
I dislike churros because they are less filling, great taste. I dislike the new menu at Rancho del Zocalo As a kid Circlevision bored me. Buzz Lightyear will die someday very soon. Not my favorite, but do still enjoy it. Screw the Lawyers that "LAWYERED" alot of the attractions at Disneyland. Namely Tea cups, Skyway, and any others they got there hands on. I have never seen "Bones" with the Mickey Ears on Indy, I have tried. :( I love MSEP, & the 50th Remember... dreams Fireworks. And the goat trick really works! I like the new Space Mountain, but disappointed in the queue, I have no desire to ride the Paradise Pier rides, except California Screamin. I like going to hell (Mr Toads) :D |
I just gave this a good think and realized that there is only one attraction that I truly dislike at DCA - Golden Dreams. I enjoy everything else (now that SSL is fully gone). Soarin' is so over for me, but I don't hate it, I'm neutral on it. Screamin' bugs me because I wish it were much more thrilling, but I enjoy it in spite of that.
The ones I haven't done (Playhouse Disney and Jellyfish) don't count. |

Disney geek confession...
On my very first trip to WDW, I totally skipped American Adventure at Epcot. Missed it totally. :D |
I have been to Playhouse Disney, and would go again, especially if I could take my nephew.
|
I haven't been able to stay awake through the entirety of "Universe of Please God Is It OVER?!" at EPCOT... (well, not since about 1988 or so).
I've made a snack of cheese sauce at WDW... |
I've engaged in sexual relations inside the park.

I confess that I'm starting to get excited about the Pirates changes. The AP newsletter that arrived yesterday seems really promising, with it's talk of "the original dialog", the "classic attraction", and "adding and upgrading", nothing about subtracting or replacing. The descriptions of the changes to Pieces of 8 sound awesome, and I'm totally looking forward to the pirate themed street performances.
But what really has me excited, what really makes me think that they're finally starting to "get it" over there was the trivia on the back of the newsletter. I know it's such a small thing, but in the past, those trivia questions would have been something like, "What song do the pirates sing?" "What part of Disneyland is the attraction in?" "What's the name of the restaurant inside the attraction?" Lame. But instead, these were the questions: "Name 8 different types of animals that can be seen inside the attraction." (CP and I came up with around 14) "In what scene can you see sheet music?" "How many scenes have maps?" "What song other than Yo Ho can be plainly heard in the attraction?" "Other than ride vehicles, how may boats (floating or partially submerged) can be seen?" "How many full skeletons are in the attraction?" "How many Jolly Rogers are there, and where?" "What flag is flying above the attraction facade?" See what I mean? These are good questions. These are MouseAdventure worthy questions (assuming MA ever be run such that we had the freedom to feesibly be sent ride a popular attractiion). These are the kinds of questions that make me think they really do understand what makes the ride great and what would be really stupid to screw with. It's definitely got my hopes up. |

Always showing people I'm with where the skyride originated in Fantasyland. Having Fantasia ice cream with hot fudge I like the mint juleps at Disney far more than actual mint juleps. I'm pitifully afraid of Monstro and cannot look at him for more than about 10 seconds or I get something akin to vertigo. And I must look away when he appears in Pinocchio. I rode the Matterhorn when I was 7. I may be too afraid to ride it again, more than 30 years later. Must always kiss my hubby at the entrance of the castle while "When You Wish Upon a Star" is playing, for it is our song. I could go on for days... :) |

Noooooooooooooooooooo! When I was there last summer they didn't have it on the menu and I thought that maybe they just ran out. I'm crestfallen. Nobody had better tell me that they'll be making major menu changes at Blue Bayou or I'll just have to throw myself down the Matterhorn.

I had a dream the other night that they took out the SW wishing well and put in a DLP-esque dragon walk-through under the bridge/moat of the castle. The exit was on the left side of the castle if you were facing it. In my dream, I was sad to see the well go, but was ecstatic about the dragon being included.
