direct link, sans stickiness ;)

Wow, I'm surprised this movie is getting a PG rating with all that nudity and explicit sex. Wait, did I click the right link?

That looks like fun and all, but I'm frankly worried about the law of diminishing returns. This movie is sure to open huge, and if it's great, it will continue to do big business. If it isn't so hot, part three is in real trouble.

But, just one year from now, will we be equally excited, or will we be burned out? I'm sure everyone's mileage will vary. For me, I wonder if Captain Jack can possibly stay compelling for three entire features. It's a fantastic characterization, but it's still kinda gimmicky. But, maybe Depp (and the story) will find interesting things to do with the character, not just rehash what has gone before. By way of comparison, I remember being an avid fan of Austin Powers when there was only one movie, but my love died pretty quickly as two more movies and an endless barrage of hype and media exposure turned him into a character I truly never want to see again. I would absolutely hate for that to happen with POTC. Here's hoping the Pirates franchise joins The Godfather and Alien in having a superior second chapter. (Has any series ever had a truly superior third chapter?)

Oh, and should I just assume that this movie will end on a cliffhanger?

MickeyLumbo 05-02-2006 05:50 PM

Character auditions are underway for Capt. Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones that will interact with Guests in the Disneyland New Orleans Square.

ummm, i'm not a bit distracted by a room full of Johnny Depp look-alikes. nope.
Look Quick! There's Pocohontas!

Looks great - I can't wait.

CoasterMatt 05-02-2006 06:23 PM

I hope the Capt Jack from Hollywood Blvd auditions...

Cadaverous Pallor 05-02-2006 06:57 PM

Hmm. Should I watch the trailer? Does it give away every effect shot?

wendybeth 05-02-2006 07:17 PM

Lots of effects, but somehow I think there will be plenty more- check it out!

One thing about the trailer that bugged me (spoilerized just in case for CP)

Spoiler:
Too many ILM monsters - it concerns me that they may rely on flashy beasts in lieu of a better story line.

And I hope the film hasn't been too Bruckheimer-ized. Too many booms can be distracting - one complaint I have about him.

Why, Star Wars Episode III of course...

Runs, ducks and hides

CoasterMatt 05-02-2006 08:30 PM

I'd mojo you for that Kevy, but apparently I need to spread it around some more before givin' it to you again....

I had the same thought. King Kong comes to mind.

scaeagles 05-02-2006 08:52 PM

Well, I liked Indiana Jones III better than II, but not as much as I....that's about the best I can offer.

How about Jaws III in 3-D? That was so hysterically bad.

Kevy Baby 05-02-2006 09:01 PM

Lethal Weapon III was pretty good

Moonliner 05-03-2006 04:15 AM

Back to the future III. Nuff said.

Snowflake 05-03-2006 04:35 AM

Psycho II and III come to mind. Wait, then there was the shot-for-shot remake. Hitch was rolling in his grave.

Godfather III was great only because I cheered at the end when Sofia Coppola was shot down. Best part of that movie, IMO. I'm sort of looking forward to her Marie Antoinette film, trailer looks interesting, but Kirsten Dunst?

JuniorMoonliner and I ran across that guy when we went down to see The Wild at the El Capitan. I had to have a little talk with her about the difference between Disney/USH characters and thems you meet on Hollywood Blvd.

After we finished walking around Hollywood a bit and were on our way into the theater she looked at me and said "Now I know why Grandpa calls it Hollyweird."
