For the Star Wars fans here...Han shoots first!!!!
A long dreamed-for press-release we NEVER thought we'd see...

I might actually get these
|
I hate to be a wet blanket, but that sounds a little too good to be true. Where did this come from?
|
Appears to be the real thing - it's in the USA Today headlines. (Okay, that is not the fount of all knowledge or anything, but at least it's a mainstream source.)
I KNEW the bastards were going to do this eventually, right about the time George said that he would never ever ever. He's such a lying scum. That said, I can't wait to get 'em. I haven't gone anywhere near these titles on DVD heretofore. Now, dare I dream that one of the extras will be the amazing Star Wars Holiday Special? http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/ |
Okay, I'd buy these. No question!
|
YAY! No more watching my LaserDiscs of the original trilogy!
|
I don't think I'll be buying these. I mean, I've bought these films 5 times already: Beta, VHS, VHS Widescreen, Special Edition VHS, Special Edition DVD... No thanks. Besides, I think I'm officially burned out on all of the SW movies.
I actually wish there was a way to combine the two editions. There are things I like much better on the orginals and other things on the SE versions. Better in the original: - Han is a dick. He shoots first. He changes through the course of the film to become a hero. The man has no conscience at the beginning. - No Jabba. And no cartoon reaction to Han stepping on his tail. - Hate the big robot hitting the small robot in Tatooine. Original is better. - Luke without the scream as he falls in 'Empire'. - I like the 'Lap Tinek' (sp?) song better in the original. Hated the 'Jedi Rocks' song in the SE. -------------------------- Special Edition: - Love the far away shots of Mos Eisley with the ships taking off. Nice. - The trench battle is much better. - Han gag on the Death Star funnier with a room full of stormtroopers. - I liked the SE Bespin. Lando's announcement is much better. Love the Falcon flying over the city scene... - I like the enhanced Bantha herd and Sarlaac Pit in 'Jedi'. -Hated the original ending to 'Jedi'. I like the non-Ewok song, old Anakin ending. - I liked the new ring explosion and the sound that follows it. |
I think I'll pass on this and wait for the HD or BlueRay versions in a few years. I might be ready to watch them again by then.
|
..... Although it would be nice to finally have some backup evidence to show all the little Star Wars geeks that Star Wars was in fact called "Star Wars" and not "Episode IV" when it first came out.
|
Drool.
I'm buying them at 12:01 on Sept. 12, following a ritual burning via jetfuel explosion of my special edition DVDs at 11:59 on September 11th. |
Holy jeebus, original title crawl?! How many sexual favors did that take, iSm?

I'm so buying this. I don't own any copies of Star Wars and the OOT (original original triliogy) is the only version I'd ever buy. |
We have VHS and nothing else since we refuse to buy the "new" sets. Since my VCR has been broken for a while now, it will be VERY nice to see films #1, 2 & 3 again.
|
So let me see if I have this right:
Star Wars IV-VI VHS/Laserdisk 1995 Star Wars IV-VI Wide-screen "Special" Edition released on DVD Sept 2004 Star Wars IV-VI Original Versions to be released Sept 2006 ------ Star Wars IV-VI Definitive Edition box set (Blu-ray) 2007 - A return to monkeying around Star Wars IV-VI 3D Edition 2007+ Star Wars IV-VI (Blu-ray) Original versions ???? |
There was a time in my life when a purchase like this would have been obligatory. But at some point something changed and I look around and see that not only have I never purchased any of the Star Wars movies in any format, I don't care at all about ever seeing them again.
I wonder how much of that is just a change in me and how much is Mr. Lucas really screwing things up. |
Eh, the more the follow-ups are screw-ups, the more it is demonstrated that the originals were brilliant.
It don't seem so easy anymore when even their creator can't capture the magic again. |
Hasn't worked that way for me. Over the last decade I have almost completely lost interest in the original movies as well. As I said I don't know how much of that is because of taint form the new movies or I've simply moved on from it.

I move on from lots of films. But I tend to fixate on the ones that have been censored or otherwise tampered with. Fantasia, Close Encounters ... it will be nice to see Star Wars returned to its original condition - - then maybe I can finally be done with it.
maybe. |
Heh...I keep wondering when that will happen for me! Just can't move on from the OT (poor overused VHS tapes and sucky pirated DVDs of same). They still touch some lovely unjaded part of me, and bring back memories of time spent with good friends, some long gone, some re-discovered :D .
And on that note: May the Fourth be with you all today! |

Is this a threesome or what? LOL!!!!! Wow! I'm not the only one with Laserdiscs? |

Oh, I have the laserdiscs, too. But they do not have the original version of Star Wars, which has never been released on any home media.
Ooooh, I'm salivating. |
I'll buy them...likely watch them once...and then they'll sit on my shelf for many many years, coming out ocasionally to perhaps settle a dispute here and there. I do want to own them, but I don't see watching them very much.

Yeah, future children investment, totally.
Original Holy Trilogy is a must buy for me. I still hate Lucas with a passion though. |
I hate, hate, hate, hate that I must buy the uber special editions with the originals. Gak, why did I fold and buy those discs already, knowing that I would likely NEVER watch them?
I'm not kidding about my DVD bonfire. I may not use jetfuel, but I don't see how I can avoid all poor-taste symbolism with a bonfire on September 11. |

There was a sequel series to the Star Wars trilogy?
 Naaaaaaah. JR, say it ain't so! Oh, but wait...what is this? A Jar-Jar tongue-sucker? ......the hell? |

And I know you knew this, I just wanted to pretend like I actually knew something. |
