OK, who would have worn this to the High School Prom....
|
OMG!!!
|
Yes, I'd let my daughter wear that. But then, I'd have to put a hit out on all the men and lesbians in her school before prom night.
|
That was hilarious... <wipes away a tear of chortle laughter>
|
Oh lordy... the Boy just got drool on my monitor.
|
I might let my nephew wear it...
|
Awwwwww looks like she got a boob job for prom too.
|
I think if you're going to go that route, you might as well go Wendy-O and break out the electrical tape
|
Totally.
That's not a dress; its a swimsuit. Unless the dance is being held on the bottom of the pool, I'd say it's too much. |
I saw that at Build A Whore for $29.50...
|
The article is right - they probably won't get into the prom. We had pretty strict rules at ours.
|
You know, I wouldn't wear that dress to the Prom, to College Graduation or to the Oscars even. It is just plain UGLY! Why do people think that showing lots of skin negates the taste requirement?

Had to go dig up the Prom in the Hood pictures.
|
Heehee, Kevy! :D
|
Ok, that dress is just disgusting. |
The dress is uuuuugly, disgusting AND ridiculous. $500.00 for that thing?
I'd rather wrap myself in a bunch of ace bandages! :D |
No, but I would totally make out with my prom date if she were wearing it.
I love prom. Someone through a Prom Party for adults. Please. |
Because 17 year old girls don't look slutty enough? Egads. It seems like just a short time ago when I went to prom and had to have the spaghetti strap debate with my parents. But how will you wear a bra?! was the protest cry. Hell, with that contraption you couldn't even wear pasties.
I think a good rule of thumb is that if public decency laws require you to tape your dress in place on your body you should pick a different dress. |

It would kick ass though. |

Personally, I'd settle for looking like the model. I don't need the dress. Like one of the high-school girls said in the article- you can't move in that thing! Besides, I want more fabric, not less, if I'm gonna spend *that* kind of cash for a dress... |
If the prom thing flies, I'll have a hard time deciding which tux to get

At least we could have, like, an after-prom party there. Of course, I offer without asking them. And they're all the way in bumblef**k Northridge. |
Quote:
Oh, and I have a LOAD of pastel streamer that I'd LOVE to part with for this event. Guys could even just wear nice duds if they can't find an old tacky tux, and we girls can take a trip to the district to get $5 prom gowns! They even sell crowns there, so we can have a prom queen! |
Quote:
But its in San Diego. |
Quote:
We can do this. We must figure this out. |
Hehe. Girls decide to play Cinderella's ball and we'll force the men to begrudgingly get gussied up.
"You wear the cape <ties towel around his neck> and be the prince!" <pouting> "I don't wanna play." "If you play, I'll play Transformers with you later." "You promise?" |
I'm checkin into the room. Its not perfect, but in retrospect, it might be more perfect than I thought.
A kitchen, a BIG tv incase the game is on... pool tables... and tables to sit at... itd be cozy (read tight) if too many came.. but otherwise...(too many would be like... more than 60.. ) it even has, get this... WINDOWS where people could look at us!!! And.... the kmart is across the street for good parking, and you'd really feel like you were at prom! |
Quote:
Crap. |
So who's parents can chaperone?
|
Quote:
Hey, Ponine - can one of the pool tables be moved aside with enough room to dance? My gods.... I would actually have a reason to use my crimping iron again!!! And I'll have to make us a bunch of silk wrist corsages, sprinkled with glitter, of course! |

|
Mine, if I do it. Totally mine.

Maybe my brother could even be my pity date. Huzzah! |
Doh! I'm a moron..here we are talking rec rooms... I bet I can get us a room at SDSU for not too much, if any moola.
Scripps Cottage anyone? I cant beleive I didnt remember that. |
That's hot.
|
That girl looks like she's 12! :yammy:

Can this be a little more...dare I say it...swanky? ;) |
Make it like the paarty in The Ice Storm and I'm there.
Ummmmm, maybe without the key thing. |

I'm CHOKING!!!!!!!!!!!
|

You know -- We could just have a swanky party... We don't need to be making excuses to have one.. Because all Prom really means is glitter & crimping irons. Seriously. I looked it up.
|
I'll only go if my date promises me I'll at least get to second base!

Oooh! I know someone with a (slightly used) tiara! I think he has pearls, too! |
Wow a whole night of standing around by myself stairing at my feet. What fun! I can't wait!
|

During my real prom, all of us alternative kids were at a three day kegger at Farregut State Park. |
I might have worn that to prom

Takes a lot of organizing though.. |

Me too!!! |
Okay, first thought.....that dress is on backwards. :(
Second....there are proms in Portland that are really popular. I know tons of people that go! It's really funny. They've had 80's themed ones and 70's themes and they are well-attended....people go all out on their dresses/suits/tuxes! The one at the Kennedy School last year sold out (I'm trying to find pics online, but I can't...darn)!!! My sister and her fiance went to an 80's one a few years ago and had a blast. If I didn't hate dressing up so much, I'd probably love it too. :) The only one I've really been tempted to go to is the annual transgender ball.....it's always in 80's style and it always sells out. Maybe I should make it a goal to find the perfect 80's dress and go this year!! I'd check LA Weekly in the spring-time. I'm sure there's one down there!! They're so popular here! But they're only advertised in smaller independent papers. |

Then he asked if it was on backwards... |
Quote:
I'm all for what NA and Erica said - a swanky party would be much more to my liking than another brush with 1989. |
Quote:
Yeah, I'm sure it's a pain to organize, but dammit, I love proms! I went to mine with a best girlfriend at the time and it was fan-damn-tastic fun. |

However I still have my hair crimper and a bottle of Electric Youth. |
I am so JAZZED about this idea! (And that's a little nod to the syphillis dance and the sweet punched-out gay boy in Strangers With Candy.)
I agree that people should come dressed in their kinda swank (glitter, or, say, vintage, if that's your bag.) I just bought a new dress that would be perfect for my concept of grown-up prom. And now, a place to perhaps use it! What about the idea of using a clubhouse? Somebody's apartment clubhouse? Maybe, somebody's apartment clubhouse we've used before? |
Quote:
All this talk now has me worried about the music selection for this prom. <shudder> :p |
All right folks... if we can start to pin down a date, I can start scoping locations..... if we're serious we need to get a move on. :birdy:
I can start asking about San Diego State once I have dates. |
I vote no date sooner than a month and a half from now. I'd like to dance with my date, and he won't be back in dancin' condition for at least several weeks.
San Diego State? Can't we find a location closer to the group's epicenter? |
Quote:
And I think I was the first one to think they could get a large enough space cheap enough. (or free) I can check it out, and someone else is totally free to find an LA venue |
Quote:

Wouldn't May be the most expensive month to book due to prom season?
|

Do you and he go to the same Synagogue? |

I think September would be a good time logistically on these factors, but that's seven months away. If the time is right, I will be able to supply toons... er tunes. Might even be able to supply flashy lights too. |
All I ask is that I get the honor of being your Prom Queen. :)
and no, I'm not above paying you all off, stuffing the ballot box, rigging the election and bringing my own crown, etc, etc.. :D ;) :p teasin'! |
I think Ally would make a fine prom queen. Although I might run against her. :D
|
Quote:
You know what would be the ultimate in swanky? Bucking the blasé trend of a solo Queen a go-go and having two Queens! :) Who needs the drama and tears of High School competition? I say we share the crown! Plus, I would get to avoid sleeping with all of the judges like I did in High School. :( Okay, I HOPE you know I'm SO TOALLY kidding on that last comment!! :D :p |

I'd totally share it with you Ally, but I think that everyone else will want a slice of the glamor. |
I'm only hoping for a Prom Queen nomination (okay, I'm willing to nominate myself).
I will then smuggle in a big bottle of booze under the big capey-jacket thing that is worn over my sparkly sequin tube-top dress. My table will then proceed to get so drunk that we will not know or care about the outcome. :p Hmmmm...sounds vaguely familiar. |
Bump-bump!
Whatever came of this? I demand satisfaction! And an occasion to wear an ugly dress! |

Maybe I should throw a prom party for my 29th. Only, instead of renting a hall, we'll all just meet up in prom attire at Medieval Times, thus satisfying my desire to wear prom attire *and* celebrate my birthday at a Medieval Times.

ugh, some things just don't go away...
|
If I had time and money, I'd throw a classy upscale birthday and ask all the hippest cats to show in their flashiest drapery. :snap:
Not this year, I'm afraid. :( |
