Blue line crash and Euro was in the train

I can't even get a news link yet, but a car tried to make a turn in front of a blue line train and the train hit the car. Chris was in the front car of the train. Everyone on the train is ok.

He heard a thud then screechin tires as the train pushed the smushed car along the tracks.

Snowflake 05-09-2006 06:35 PM

Thanks God he's okay!

Not Afraid 05-09-2006 06:39 PM

Don't expect any more info then I already gave you, though....but there is a pic of the train and the car.

Kevy Baby 05-09-2006 06:48 PM

Keep us posted as best you can. Glad to hear he is okay.

Not Afraid 05-09-2006 06:51 PM

I think they were going to turn another train around to get people home. He had to go suddenly. It sure sounded like a war zone on the phone with sirens and heliocopters.

Why do people think they can beat a train?

Kevy Baby 05-09-2006 06:52 PM

People are stupid. :sigh:

scaeagles 05-09-2006 07:32 PM

Yikes!

innerSpaceman 05-09-2006 07:50 PM

Wow.

I mean, er .... Wow.

Sorry for the idiot in the car, but this is going to make such a great story when € tells it!

Cadaverous Pallor 05-09-2006 08:07 PM

What a scare! Thank God he's ok, and could tell you as much before you could freak out. Hell, I'm freaked out!

€uroMeinke 05-09-2006 08:14 PM

Ever have one of those days? You know, earlier today I thought I might get out early, might be able to pay a visdit to Universal and Coaster Matt - but one thing lead to another and it was a real train wreck of a day, So why should it surprise me that my day's metaphore be turned to a reality?

Sigh - what a day

But now I 'm home, happy , content, glass of whiskey in my hand...

And all I can think of reading this thread is, you know once I did beat the train, and it was probably stupid, but here I am know living my consequences though decidely alive. I'll take that that.

Cheers

scaeagles 05-09-2006 08:25 PM

Have one for me, too.

Not Afraid 05-09-2006 08:33 PM

Sorry, he's having one for me right now. Mayle next one. ;)

SacTown Chronic 05-09-2006 08:34 PM

Hey! My 1000th post was a toast to Euro. How cool is that?

wendybeth 05-09-2006 08:54 PM

Very appropriate, STC!

's to the train winning this round, and €uro being on the winning side! My BIL is an engineer and he's got some pretty horrific war stories to tell- if his train had hit that car, there would be no survivors. (He hauls freight, and some of his trains are very, very long ones that take miles to bring to a stop).

(Dole Whip or Fuzzy Water, NA?)

Not Afraid 05-09-2006 08:57 PM

Yes, fuzzy water. I KNOW what happens when I drink - even when it does sound tempting.

JWBear 05-09-2006 09:12 PM

Wow! Frightning! I'm glad to hear he's ok.

hey seamonkey, so glad you are ok!

Motorboat Cruiser 05-09-2006 09:49 PM

I gasped out loud when I saw this thread title (but anything relating to trains hitting people freaks me out a bit after certain events that happened in my life a few months ago.)

I'm quite relieved to know that you are ok and home safe.

Hell, I think I need a drink.

€uroMeinke 05-09-2006 09:53 PM

:cheers:Cheers!

innerSpaceman 05-09-2006 10:08 PM

Ho-hum, you're not even my first friend to be involved in a train wreck.

I'm very relieved you're ok, but now that your health is assured - - - what I mostly want is for you to imbibe enough relief liquor to spin this into a fascinating yarn.

Be a good chap and oblige, won't you?

€uroMeinke 05-09-2006 10:33 PM

Well having just put this on my - I shall cross post i here:

Quote:

Ever have one of those days? Of course you have. We all have. It's just not every day that the Metaphor become real as it did for me today. Because you see, my train wreck of a day ended with an actual train wreck.

Of course you must understand that I am still invoking some artistic license here, for my day has yet to end and in fact as it truly is ending I'm enjoying a glass of whiskey, with little thought of a train wreck at all - that is until I started this post.

But, truth be told on my way home, riding in the socially conscious Blue Line, we struck a car and came to a stop - no injuries to those o us in the train, but a train wreck none-the-less.

So what went wrong? The morning was actually quite delightful - a vendor meeting at the Glendale Hilton, a Metro Ride, late enough to allow me to sleep in, pick up a co-worker, some sessions and then home early, or maybe a stop at Universal to hi to my friend Matt.I was ready for just such a day.

Things started to go awry at lunch when we agreed to hold the presentations through it to get out even earlier. But maybe it started before that - my coworker must have gotten 5 or 6 pages by the time lunch rolled around. In any case the situation was such that we ended early enough where my coworker felt she should go back to the office. Despite my arguments and excuses, I finally yielded and returned to our main office. I had nothing, no note, no laptop, nothing got do my job. I thought perhaps I could hijack a stray computer and at least check my email.

What followed was a series of events that I probably can't even share in my friends list yet, but I withdrew my application for the supervisor job I bid for and was going to interview for tomorrow, had a long talk with the hiring manager, my coworker, and the finance manger, who all told me stuff I shouldn't know that is cause for great anxiety in some, but actually make s me rather excited for the future. Need less to say, I spent quite some time dealing with the anxious - who just frustrated me all the more.

So finally I was going home - it was all I wanted to do since lunch and I think Lisa got several "I'm coming home now messages" before it actually happened. I took the shuttle to the train and two stops in, listening to my iPod reading my Granta, I felt a thud and smelled burnt rubber as we slowly grinded to a halt just past an intersection. The saddest part of this event is I didn't realize it was happening until well after the fact. I called Lisa - and she called me back not having heard my message. Meanwhile the other rider argued if the slight bump we felt was a car (doubtful) or a suicide (aka pedestrian - actually it turned out to be a car trying to make a turn a "beat" the train). Before you knew it an armada of news copters were hovering above me as a reporter interview the train driver. Paramedics and firemen walked the aisles asking if anyone had injuries and soon enough the Sheriff was yelling at all of us to get on the other side of the police line."uh okay so, where are we supposed to go?"

So I walked to the next stop - the new end of the line to wait the next train, give Lisa a call, and reflect on the day. Fortunately, a train was sent back before my boredom sent me to the strip club down the street, for the only other storefronts in the area just seemed to sell live poultry.

So I sip my whiskey - reflect - ponder the day - It's only Tuesday! - and wonder what the rest of the week will bring. but today was definitely a train wreck of a day - duly noted.

DreadPirateRoberts 05-09-2006 11:25 PM

Glad you are ok. It's no fun being on a train that hits someone.
Been there, done that.

You must spread some Mojo around before giving it to €uroMeinke again.
Glad your metaphoric train wreck of a day and the literal icing on the cake of your day resulted in you getting home safe and sound to NA.

Gemini Cricket 05-10-2006 04:06 AM

I'm glad you were not hurt during the whole ordeal. That must be a pretty solid train. For it to hit a car and all you felt was a bump? That's amazing. You're fine, *whew* !

LSPoorEeyorick 05-10-2006 05:59 AM

I am so very glad you're OK.

And I'm so very glad you're feeling excitement about whatever at work is a cause of some anxiety. I don't know exactly what this is, but I hope that it allows you to blaze a better trail.

Ride safely today.

I'm glad to hear you are ok. Try to have a calmer day today!

SzczerbiakManiac 05-10-2006 09:38 AM

Holy crap €uroMonkey! What a relief to hear you were unharmed though.

Let's hope that driver has not been breeding....

AllyOops! 05-10-2006 09:41 AM

THANK GOD YOU ARE OKAY!!

Nothing is worse then being caught in a wreck! The palpitations that occur beforehand are deafening. :(

I'm so happy you are okay. You & Lisa relax, and take a day to yourself!

And of course, whiskey rules! :D ;)

Ghoulish Delight 05-10-2006 09:47 AM

But was anybody decapitated?

Promo-Man 05-10-2006 09:48 AM

Glad that you are ok.
I am not much of a drinker anymore but I will drink a toast to the good life!

Gemini Cricket 05-10-2006 09:54 AM

I'm thinking there was no one in the passenger seat. If there was... ugh.

I was thinking about those commercials you like so much where the subjects of the commercial get into unexpected accidents. There's a newer one that just came out. I agree with you that they're very effective...

alphabassettgrrl 05-10-2006 11:26 AM

Glad you're ok. I've always wondered why those 45 seconds waiting for the train to pass are so crucial that people will literally risk their lives for them. Other than of course, the aforementioned "people are stupid". The trains carrying people are short, not much of a wait at all. I've waited longer at stop lights.

and a few days later, did you get a pamphlet from Pueblo, Colorado entitled "Do you know what the queers are doing to our soil?"

Hades 05-10-2006 05:48 PM

 Well, glad you are ok, Euro! At least you have an interesting tale to tell for those dull conversation moments.

I have quite a few near misses from various modes of transportation, like the time I was almost clocked by the basket of a runaway hot air balloon. Or the time I just missed deleting a pedestrian that thought she could dash across a five lane intersection after the don't walk sign was five seconds old and traffic was just starting to move. I could also go on and on about the near deaths I've avoided, but I digress...

The important thing is that you are well, and no one was seriously injured. Just chalk it up to a fool losing their toy for not playing by the rules of the road!
