New Shoes

I went on a bit of a spree this past weekend and bought some new shoes.

From Marshall's:

Puma Sildre - I can't find the exact color of mine, but the upper is tan, the straps and Puma stripe are lilac, and the sole is brown

Merrell Barrado - Espresso. Really lightweight shoe, feels almost like I don't have anything on.

Got these at DSW:

Josef Seibel Maddie - in Velour/Dakota Rose/White. I couldn't resist the cuteness, plus they were a fantastic deal.

Teva Olowahu - I think the color I got is Tongs Lime. It's a light green patterned design.

Anyone else get some new, fashionable footwear?

Matterhorn Fan 05-17-2006 10:04 AM

I like those Merrells. I have no new shoes to share--the Dansko sandals I bought last summer are holding up very well, though.

Not Afraid 05-17-2006 10:14 AM

I haven bought anything since Boston, when I got 2 pairs of Mephisto All Rouders - black and brown - which I haven't stopped wearing; and a cute pair of Uffizi flats with cool straps.

I'm thinking of getting the Mephistos in Green.

I love all of those shoes. Did you find the Clarks yet?

Matterhorn Fan 05-17-2006 10:17 AM

I would recommend against any Clarks with a black, suedeish insole, FWIW.

€uroMeinke 05-17-2006 08:58 PM

Since I'm in Chicago, I may have to take the L out to Wicker Park and the Fluvog store - since that seems to be the only place I buy shoes these days

Cute shoes, Steph!

While we're on the topic, please help out a shoe retard.

I can't find anything for work. I want some cute summery shoes but they have to have a closed toe (f'n dress code). I can't wear standard pump-styles because my heel always slips out, and they can't be flipflop style. They must have a strap of some kind...

Yeah, these shoes don't exist. :( I'm about ready to lay down serious cash for good shoes.

Matterhorn Fan 05-18-2006 06:43 AM

Dansko Regina: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/11686009/c/208.html

Dansko Margrete: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/7325488/c/1598.html

In any case, zappos is a great site. Free shipping and a good return policy.

Ponine 05-18-2006 08:36 AM

CP, there are also some tres cute ballet slipper style sketchers and keds right now.
One of the sketchers has a stap, one doesnt. Tennis shoe treads and girlie tops.

Thanks! You should go to the shoe outlet place in Tustin Marketplace. I'm flaking on the name right now. It's like my DSW. TONS of shoes, and you can try them on. You should be able to find something that fits into your parameters.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-18-2006 10:29 AM

Ponine - I've never bought Sketchers before, I may have to stop in.

I looked it up - Off Broadway Shoes? I haven't been there before, I'll check it out.

I usually love DSW but I've been to them for this particular shoe need and they just don't have it at the moment.

There's another chain like DSW isnt there? Famous or such?

Well, you said you were getting ready to lay down some serious cash for good shoes.

Danskos are worth every hard-earned penny. I have 4 pairs. Granted, 2 of them need to go to shoe repair, but that's because I walk funny not because they're poor quality. My oldest pair I've had for about 6 years.

It can't hurt to go to Nordstrom's and try them on. They have lots of $60 shoes there, too.

Not Afraid 05-19-2006 08:33 AM

I bemoan the years I wore cheap shoes because now I have major foot problems. The money you spend on good shoes now will save tons of cash on medical expenses and lots of pain later.

Matterhorn Fan 05-19-2006 08:37 AM

Agreed. I hope to avoid foot pain and foot surgery in the future.

If only I could get the callouses under control.

Get some of this stuff.

My podiatrist recommended it for callouses and it does wonders. Any lotion containing Urea will slough off callouses over time. Good stuff. Not froofroo, but effective.

Gemini Cricket 05-19-2006 11:00 AM

My new shoes:

New Balance 557's. 4E. Size 10 1/2.

$60 is already more than I've ever spent on shoes. I've slowly worked my way up to $40 pairs at DSW and I still cringe but buy them anyway.

People always say that Payless shoes don't fit them. I guess they were designed only for my feet. I still have an ancient pair that I kick around. They really don't make what I'm currently looking for though.

I've never had callouses or foot problems and I attribute that to my comfy shoe policy. I don't wear shoes made for Barbie because my feet aren't shaped like Barbie's. That horrified me as a child, btw.

I do wear medium heels, but not every day, and I never ever buy pointy toes that try to mold my feet. If my pinky is being pushed into my other toes, it's not for me.

Of course, it may just be a matter of time...

Anyway, after bunny shopping I'll hopefully have time for shoe shopping!

Yes, they would stare, point and ridicule your feet.

I guess the swankiest my feet have ever been was when my uncle bought me alligator skin boots. They were bright red. I was 10...

I wore swanky shoes walking around Paris. Huge mistake.

When I go back, I don't care if the Europeans don't like my sneakers - I'm not getting blisters just to look cool.

Stan4dSteph 05-19-2006 11:26 AM

You don't have to spend huge amounts of money on comfortable and fashionable shoes. The ones I got above I purchased at Marshall's and DSW, both at a discount, some quite significant. They may be not the most current model, but there probably won't be that many people that notice.

I much prefer to have stylish shoes that are comfy when traveling. That way, I don't stick out like a sore thumb. :) The purchase of my shoes above was partly for use in Germany and France when I go in July.

You obviously didn't buy quality shoes.

It's not an either/or proposition. Why do you think European Comfort Shoes are so popular?

I just wouldn't want to look like an American right off the bat. It could be uncomfortable and make you quite a target for theft and animosity. And, ugly tennis shoes worn off the tennic court are a sure way of screaming AMERICAN!

I have these and LOVE them. Comfy, Euro-styling, Fashionable. They look great with everything.

For some reason, I clicked on the shoe thread. I don't know why I did. Kind of glad I did.

Why don't you tell everyone what you had to do for those shoes, GC? I may be a small appliance whore, but I would never accept used boots.

But anyway.....unless I am coaching a basketball game or going to something like a wedding, all I wear is white K-Swiss classics. Ever since high school. In do admit to owning underwear quite similar to what was posted, though. And no, I didn't mean that pair.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-19-2006 05:43 PM

Picked up a decent pair at Off Broadway today. Thanks Steph!

I know, they're not super cute. Cute shoes are not comfortable enough on me for work. I could not find anything in the aisles, and got lucky in the clearance section. These will look great with my suit.

I must have really long toes or something. On most "cute" shoes, you can see the base of my toes beginning just before the shoe does. Lame. Either that or they decided I should have 4, not 5 toes.

I have promised myself that next time I have a swanky shindig to attend I will allow myself to buy some cute shoes. :)

LSPoorEeyorick 05-19-2006 06:01 PM

The problem with my feet is that they're so damn wide. I appreciate my wide smile, I don't even mind my wide hips, but the feet I still have not learned to love.

No problem :D

I really like the ballet style shoes, but at the time Sightsee was the only style by Sketchers and I didn't like how it showed the start of my toes. I have Spokes in black, not super comfortable after a few hours. I don't recommend them. The other styles that are similar may be better though.

My mom has always worn *good* shoes and has bad feet problems now. Me? I wear what is comfortable. No feet problems either. But I'm still pretty young and there is pleanty of time for them to crop up.

I went into Payless last weekend to find some sandles. They were so cute cute but didn't fit me right. I wish they did, I hate paying $$ for shoes. Thats why the $5 clearance at Kohls made me so happy!

Chris went to the Fleuvog store in WIcker Park and, apparently, got 3 paris of Fluevogs. He's learning from me. ;) It's John Fleuvog's Birthday so everything was 10% off.

No Mickey shoes though.

Oh, and the link doesn't take you to the actual shoe, just the main site. You have to get the properties of the pic and paste it here.

€uroMeinke 05-20-2006 02:04 PM

I got some cool shoes today, but I can't find them on the site to link back to - I like Fluvogs.

Oh and I did sign John's Birthday card

What's changed? Last I was there, black was the color preferred by locals and it was all the American tourists in white.

It's not the color, it is the style of shoe.. Sport shoes are to be worn for sport and not for being out and about. Same goes for sweats. It is a typically American practice.

I'm pretty sure it's because of how I walk. I have another pair in a different style that are so similar to Spokes and I can wear all day at DL. I really need to try on the different ballet styles and see if any of those cover my toes. Not that I need new shoes...

How do Fluevogs fit? I've been eyeing JF's for years, but I'm terrified to order shoes online without ever having tried any of the brand on (and there are no stores near me that are blessed with Fluevogdom).

I need a good, Satan-resisting shoe.

Thanks! I think that was the end of them. Their summer shoes should be hitting clearance in a month or so.

I figured out their clearance system. It's yellow tagged at 70% then 80% then 90% and then red-tagged at $15, then $10 and finally 50% off the $10. Now just to figure out how often it happens. The Kohls guarding Costco has a ton of clothing on clearance still.

Gemini Cricket 05-24-2006 06:26 AM

(This isn't snarky. I'm curious.) But what makes people buy lots and lots of shoes? To stay hip? For me it's about it lasting a long, long time. Not style. Who I am is my fashion. Shoes don't necessarily make me. ie. My New "Manolo" Balance running shoes.
:D

Prudence 05-24-2006 08:13 AM

For me: they're the one item of clothing I can buy that's likely to fit. I can walk into any shoe store and grab a size 8. For the most part, I don't have to deal with being a 6 in some manufacturers and a 12 in others. I can shop in the same store with everyone else, no short or fat issues. I don't have to take off my clothes to see if shoes fit. I don't have to wait in line for a dressing room and ponder whether they have cameras aimed into the changing rooms. I can express my mood through shoe selection.

Gemini Cricket 05-24-2006 08:17 AM

If Prudence is wearing butt kicking catwoman leather boots with spiked heels... I'm heading for the hills, I don't want my butt kicked.

What she said.

Though I can't always buy the same size, it's easier to find a pair of shoes that fit than a shirt of pair of pants.

Not Afraid 05-24-2006 09:13 AM

I am always looking for the elusive comfort along with style. I have such problems with my feet lately (years of cheap shoes) and I haven't quite figured out what I can wear for lengths of time, so I keep trying. Plus my feet feel better when I change shoes often.

"Style" is also important to me. I are fairly careful about putting an outfit together and I hate to have it ruined by the wrong shoes.

I am the Imelda Marcos of comfort shoes. ;)

Matterhorn Fan 05-24-2006 09:15 AM

Ah, but the real gem is the elusive pair of comfortable fashionable shoes that cannot ruin any outfit.

I haven't found those yet.

Me either, but I sure as hell keep trying! ;)

lizziebith 05-24-2006 09:53 AM

I've been addicted to "mary-jane" style shoes for most of my life -- and like NA, I now have to worry about my poor aging feet. Since I love walking, and would like to continue walking for years to come, all the shoes I buy now must have good support and design, which means the days of cheap shoes are long gone (I used to go that route, too -- buying shoes that were essentially "disposable").

Anyway, I just found these for summer and am hopeful that they are as comfy as they look! They are Michelle K Sport Ambition.

Gemini Cricket 05-24-2006 09:53 AM

I don't think I've ever really had a nice pair of shoes. Ever. They were all just practical shoes, nothing fancy. Maybe I should just get one pair for fun.
:)

:D

Some of it is, it's easier to buy shoes than pants. Some of it is, "they're $5, they fit, they're cute, I can't not buy them!" and I really don't have a lot of dress shoes. Or shoes, for that matter.

But the harder question is, what to do with shoes I never wear but are too ratty to be donated. I've got tennies stashed in my car and in my emergency kit already, and I'd feel bad (not sure why) for throwing those away.

I made that mistake once...it's taken a lot of restraint to keep my total pairs down to 4 since.

I will come home with three new pair - I like cool shoes, they can be fun and are key in assuming a new identity. Check out a person's shoes and you'll know where they are standing.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-24-2006 01:16 PM

If cute, well fitting shoes that I can wear to work cost $15 I'd probaby have 50 pairs. Shoes really can pump an outfit up.

I have yet to master the art of buying shoes in random colors. Brown is about as daring as I get. I envy chicks with red or green shoes. I never have anything that works with them.

JWBear 05-24-2006 03:50 PM

I have a lot of shoes because I need different types for different uses.

Dress shoes for work.
Comfortable shoes for walking around (Merrells and Sketchers)
Shoes for working around the house.
Cool, casual shoes for swankiness (Clark Wallabies, and cool grey suede hightops I found at The Rack).

lizziebith 05-24-2006 05:10 PM

I was just doing a little more shoe shopping and I found a style called "aromatic." Thanks, I'll pass.

Prudence 05-24-2006 06:55 PM

Whee! I found a victim friend to come with me to the Fluevog store on Saturday! Shoes, Pike Place Market, maybe X-Men 3, fun times!

Another reason I tend to have a lot of shoes is that my size never changes with my weight. I wear a 10W no matter what size pants I'm wearing. Though sometimes FINDING shoes in my size is a challenge....

Plus, I need lots of colors of shoes.

BarTopDancer 07-28-2006 09:13 AM

My Danskos are not comfortable :( The arches hit too far back. /sigh

Matterhorn Fan 07-28-2006 09:18 AM

Are you in the wrong size, maybe? I've got three different sizes of Danskos for some reason. They all seemed to fit at the store.

I don't think so. Any smaller and they would be too small in the toe.

The arch hits at the end of the arch and onto my heel. It's really odd.

Oh well. I guess I can list them on ebay.

Matterhorn Fan 07-28-2006 09:46 AM

Try on a size larger next time you're in Nordstrom's, just to see. My larger ones are much more comfortable (it has nothing to do with the arch, but still...)

MickeyD 07-29-2006 12:41 PM

About 6 weeks ago my work dropped a dress code bombshell on me. No more jeans. So, over the past weeks I've been upgrading my wardrobe. The only thing left is shoes. I have one pair of the mary jane style Skechers that I like & I'll probably get another pair of those...and look for some comfy flats... Now, if only they had upgraded my paycheck to go with my upgraded wardrobe....

This was my recent dmage at the Fluevog store in SF:

On Sale!

Matterhorn Fan 07-29-2006 02:12 PM

I'm jealous. I want a Fluevog store.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-29-2006 11:45 PM

I never did update here.

I ended up with these -

and a pair similar to these (with a black, simpler strap and a slightly different pattern):

I'm happy. The first pair is just as comfy as advertised and is now my every-shoe for everything. I want a few more pairs

The second pair seemed very comfy at first but I've now realized they aren't for large amounts of walking. I still love them though.

BarTopDancer 07-29-2006 11:47 PM

CP - what style are the first pair?

Mousey Girl 07-30-2006 01:42 AM

I had remarkable good luck the past few days. I have such wide feet that shoe shopping is very depressing. I found 1 sandal that is comfie, is wide enough and comes in a 10 1/2, so I have every color it is made in. I ordered a dress frmo Torrid and decided to try a pair of shoes, they fit!! Both the dress and the shoes!! Today I had to take Nickolas shoe shopping. We went to Payless, and I ended up with 2 more pairs of shoes!! I am in shoe heaven!

Matterhorn Fan 07-30-2006 06:48 AM

Cadaverous Pallor 07-30-2006 11:25 AM

Sketchers Bikers Step-Up, in Toffee.

There are so many different colors and designs for these - some with mesh and rhinestones and such.

The sandals were 30% off if I bought the first pair so I went for it.

Mousey Girl 07-30-2006 03:48 PM

I like Sketchers, they just aren't wide enough for me.

Prudence 08-15-2006 09:31 PM

Okay, I returned the shoes I got at the anniversary sale because they weren't that comfortable and I'd probably scuff the patent leather before I even got out of the house.

Instead I got these:

and these:

And they really are super comfortable, even though they're heels.

Not Afraid 08-15-2006 09:41 PM

I really love the black pair!

Prudence 08-15-2006 10:01 PM

I've just realized that the red ones look really bright in that photo. They're really more of an oxblood sort of blacky-red. But they're both very comfortable. I recommend them highly! I love Franco Sarto shoes.

Stan4dSteph 08-16-2006 08:31 AM

I need a pair of shoes with a heel to wear with my pants that are too long for flats. I have boots that I wear, but sometimes it's a little warm for them, so I need a pair of something like pumps for work.

I'm looking at some at Zappos.

LifeStride Stroll in Dirty Nickel

I will probably need to wear said pants to DSW one of these days and try a bunch on.

Matterhorn Fan 08-16-2006 12:13 PM

"Dirty Nickel"?

You could get those pants hemmed, but then you wouldn't have such a great excuse to buy shoes.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-03-2007 09:56 PM

They're comfy, hide the base of my toes, and the strap keeps 'em on me, which is good. :) $60 on clearance. My first green shoes, yay!

Prudence 01-03-2007 10:51 PM

I haven't had new shoes in months! It's killing me! I really want those Fluevog boots. Maybe if I do well in the competition....

Some green suede platform slingbacks and some patent leather pumps (in black).

:D

And here I am to answer, like, over a YEAR later. :p Honestly, the reason I avoid this Thread is that everytime I want to post a purchase, I end up not posting and buying more shoes instead!! The madness NEEDS to stop!!

Now here's the answer you've been long searching for:

"I don't know". :(

It's a vice, I suppose, like any other. Filling that hole with everything but actual, proper treatment, maybe?

However, in my case, shoes are like little works of art to me. Honestly (and I'm ashamed to admit this) I buy embarrassing amounts of shoes and wear less then a quarter of them because A.) they are little works of art I simply cannot pass up and B.) my life does not match the excitement of my shoes. I mean, c'mon. I'm not going to lie. I wake up at an unholy hour to go to work and I put in sick amounts of overtime on my own time. Then, I lather, rinse and repeat. I need a life that dictates daily stilletto wearing!

And yes, I've mentioned before I have a Manolo weakness. One of my pairs is like a sculpture to me. I'm nervous even wearing them! And when I have? I need to slide off them off of my feet (because they are the most painful shoes EVER)! Manolo Blahnik must hate women's feet & this is his clever revenge. I once wore a pair of Jimmy Choo's to DISNEYLAND. What lame ass does that? This one. I had to ditch them in favor of Minnie Mouse flip-flops from WOD that I wore for the rest of the evening and in no way matched what I was wearing. I didn't care. Jimmy Choo's aren't hot if they're full of your own blood.

Which brings me to today. I'm not THAT girl anymore. I now choose comfort over style. I struggle in heels these days, mainly because I now am cursed with the plastic-mold injected Barbie feet that CP posted (that totally cracked me up!) :D I mean, I'm wearing gold ballet flats today and they are killing me. And they are flats!!

However, some things never change. I couldn't resist my newest purchase, however! Platform, spike-heeled Mary Jane's with a dominatrix twist! Sexy? Maybe, to me, but totally impractical. In fact, I bet I die (God forbid) in those suckers because if I'm not careful, my clumsiness will claim me in those babies. Boy, as long as they hang my stillettoed feet out of the casket. I need those suckers to be seen. :p My boyfriend saw them and was in favor of me wearing them only, in um, the boudoir. Why? The shoes have 5 inch spike heels. At nearly 5"7, they put me at 6 feet. I'll be taller then he is! He would never, ever dictate to me. In fact, he's told me to wear 'em out. But I wouldn't do that to him. I know he doesn't like them.

I still have a bad habit, I admit it. Which is why I won't even share what I have purchased this month alone. It's my shoecaine. ;) :p

Prudence 10-24-2007 09:31 AM

So California is burning down. What better way to distract yourself than to help me pick shoes to wear to my interview?

To recap: navy suit, definitely berry red purse (because it's the biggest one I have and I'm trying to do all carry-on).

Got that in your minds? Good. Now, to recap - I have these shoes already:

Reds aren't a perfect match, but they're both on the blue side of red, so it's not scandalously clashing. Super high heel, though, and uncomfortable to walk in.

I don't really have any other shoes with a high enough heel (long pants, has to be at least a 2.5" heel) that don't have some scuff or gouge I can't fix.

But Zappos, lovely Zappos, has overnight shipping. And lots of temptation.

These are sort of the reverse of the ones I have:

As are these:

These solve the red issue - assuming there is a red issue - but also have a giant 4" heel:

These come in a bunch of colors, but I'm not sure the heel is high enough:

These combine the giant 4" heel with the potential for untied shoelaces, but they look interesting:

And these are definitely interesting, but are they too much? They come in both blue:

and black:

So, stick with what I have, try something new?

Not Afraid 10-24-2007 10:05 AM

Navy suite with back shoes? How dare you?

I can't imagine even walking in most of those, so I'm having conflcts. I think the most conservative, the better. You really don't want them noticing your shoes. That being said, I like the lace-ups best.

Prudence 10-24-2007 01:23 PM

Of course the 4" heels are the most popular. Y'all secretly want me to fall and break my neck in WV, don't you?

Morrigoon 10-24-2007 01:44 PM

I like the 4" heel ones, but I also like the ones where you aren't sure if the heel is high enough.

Then again, you're talking to someone who wears the same crappy black Dr. Scholls crap from Walmart with everything: black, brown, blue doesn't matter. So I can hardly be considered an authority.

In other news, I bought my first pair of "pointy" shoes last week. When you're a size 10, you don't tend to gravitate towards shoes that make your foot look even longer, but surprisingly, these have the opposite effect.

Prudence 10-25-2007 10:06 PM

Okay, so first I ordered the last pair with the funky heel and big buckle, because it was the pair Ryan liked best from the photos. They only had one left in my size. Then, in the afternoon, I realized that *horrors* they might not actually fit. And I wouldn't have time to order more!

So I also ordered the next three up from the bottom - everything except the red toe cap and red heel. They all came today, and it's a good thing I ordered more because the first pair I ordered have what looks like white paint all over the toe - clearly that isn't going to work.

Oddly enough, the ones I initially liked least, the lace-up ones, look the hottest - like a slutty schoolmarm. And I don't think it's actually a 4" heel, despite the description. The scalloped ones are also pretty cute. The final pair is okay, too. I'll have to try them all on with the suit.

CoasterMatt 10-25-2007 10:37 PM

I just got a fun pair of Anarchic boots last Thursday (had to have something special for the Mutaytor show).

I used to have a pair of WWII German tank boots, they were the most comfortable, evil looking shoes I've ever owned.

3894 11-15-2007 06:28 AM

Aerosoles is having a really nice online sale right now. If you like Re-Mix shoes, these are pretty dang reminiscent but a lot less expensive (and a lot less well-made but oh well).

I bought three pairs - this one, this one, and this one, all for about $120.

Not Afraid 11-15-2007 09:20 AM

WOW! Great prices on great shoes! I'm tempted (until I realize just how much this little bundle of teeth is going to cost me.)

BarTopDancer 11-15-2007 10:36 AM

I'm happy the heels are getting lower, but sad that the boots I've seen aren't super cute. I can walk in 4in heels but I prefer not to. Love my hooker boots though. Need to get that zipper fixed so I can start wearing them.

Prudence 11-15-2007 01:46 PM

Morrigoon 11-15-2007 01:58 PM

lindyhop 04-13-2008 04:36 PM

I got these recently. They're not as comfortable as I'd like but they'll be fine for work.

Last night I finally asked someone about a style of wedge sandal I see a lot of dancers wearing. She told me about this place. Oh, my. I'm planning a visit next week when I have some time off work.

I bought two pairs of shoes this weekend.

and

The second pair are Eccos and were on sale at about 40% off. The first pair are Naot and were expensive but feel like butter. Good and comfortable shoes are always something I''m willing to spend money on.

Ponine 04-29-2008 09:05 AM

When did you buy the green ones?!?!?!?

And you dont even mention your uber cute plaid Converse.

Not Afraid 04-29-2008 09:10 AM

OH! My Converse! How could I forget!

The green ones I got on Sunday when we went down town. Desert Sole was open this time. They didn't have any El Naturalista's but I feel in love with the green ones once I tried them on.

Jen got a cute new pair as well.

Ghoulish Delight 05-01-2008 07:47 AM

Scored at Nordstrom Rack yesterday.

I'm getting these for the summer.

Going after these next:

blueerica 05-01-2008 10:04 AM

The Skechers up top are way cute!

I'm looking for more heels, actually. I'm finding that my feet overall are more comfortable in them, so long as it's not long walks. For some reason, flats seem to cramp my style... literally... with my high arch.

There are SO many cute heels out these days. I just can't wait for tradeshow season to be over so I can afford to not have to keep thousands in my checking to cover myself while waiting for reimbursement. I should look into credit cards... okay, probably not.

Capt Jack 05-01-2008 10:29 AM

sort of crossing the camp and shoe threads here, but I want to snag some good lightweight hikers for the trip.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-01-2008 11:36 AM

Must go shopping.

GD's new shoes are so hot, I was drooling.

GD's Nordy Rack score is hot, you are so right, CP.

I went shopping in Freiburg, Germany this past weekend and picked up a couple of pairs of shoes. The Mephisto store was having a sale, so I was able to get these in brown. There was another pair that I really liked, but they didn't have the size that would have fit me better.

I also found it harder than I expected to find a good selection of Birkenstocks. I did eventually find a store and bought a pair of the Gizeh sandals in black.

I have the same Birks but with a back strap. I really like them and don't feel too dorky in them.

Love the Mephistos.

Kels 07-08-2008 07:10 PM

I hate to taint all the cute shoes in this thread, but I recently bought a pair of these Z-Coil shoes.

I bought them for my trip to Disneyland that's coming up in couple of weeks. They're supposed to help with posture, leg pain, back pain, and most of all...foot pain. (My heels usually kill after the first day or two of walking around the park.)

I've worn them now for a couple of days to get them worn-in, but good God their not pretty.

Has anyone owned (or worn) a pair of these shoes?

Oh, I guess I should say that my store was out of the white in my size, so I have the black tennis shoes. What we do for comfort, right?!

kels.

I don't know what possessed me to entre a shoe thread.

I own four pairs of shoes. K-swiss classics, some high tops, a pair of brown dress shoes, and a pair of black dress shoes. I don't count my one pair of flip flops. Am I missing something about being excited over shoes? I see them as a tool for when I need them, not as something that I need a lot of.

Is this a female thing? My wife and 14 year old obsess on shoes. I've never understood it.

I tossed a pair of Vans that were completely shredded on the inside. I need to do that with my black Converse as well. They aren't fine, they hurt my feet!

I think I have 44 pairs of shoes, counting flip flops.

I also wanted to get these Vans, but they seem to be discontinued and no one's got my size left.

But I'm considering these instead:

BarTopDancer 08-05-2008 09:27 AM

The first pair screams 1990something. Did you check an actual Vans store or Kohls (for some reason they have randomness when it comes to shoes and styles)?

Really like the 2nd pair.

I tried on a pair of those in classic black. No where near as comfortable as I remember them to be. Much sadness ensued.

Kohl's carried them it seems but I checked their site and all they had left was a 7 1/2 and an 11. And by yesterday evening, the 11 was gone. Too bad because they were on sale for $15 there. Same story everywhere else. I'm pretty sure they're discontinued.

#1 - Hot but shiny never lasts, they'll look worn way to soon
#2 - Wasabi hot but I'm guessing less than practical in actual use
#3 - An excellent balance of looks and practicality.

I love #3, very modern hipster.

I want new shoes but since my foot/knee surgery in November, I can only wear flat, roomy, flexible, cushioned shoes...i.e. tennis shoes, Uggs...nothing sexy or hot. I love tennis shoes (and therefore, thankfully, own several pair) but bleh. You would be amazed how much this limits clothing options (tennis shoes don't really go with the cute/hot dress). The Dr. says my toe joint may be swollen for up to six! months.

I want sexy (or even cute) legs and feet! I envy and hate you all!

Well, I was long out of HS, but point taken. They have been around for years. When I first saw them I thought for sure they'd be a short lived fad. I thought they were so ugly. I can't afford/do not own real ones, but my fake ones are awfully comfy. I owned them for about a year before I ever wore them out of the house, I just used them as slippers at first. I wear my Cons a lot more often.

This pair is the latest in a line. I started getting them years ago for the practical purpose of an apres ski boot), then they became popular as a fashion item (it always amused me when all of my friends who laughed at my "hideous boots" suddenly started sporting them). This current pair needs to be replaced...they are decorated with "puppy art" (read: they are chewed up in spots) from a couple of years ago. I justify the price since they usually last 5 or so years before they look totally ratty and need to be replaced.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-13-2009 08:43 AM

You know what's even more dumb looking than Ugg boots? Children in school uniforms wearing Ugg boots. Saw that the other day. Of course, anything worn with school uniforms looks out of place.

If you like Uggs, enjoy, style is personal and subjective, but I think they look like snow boots. Clumsy, oversized, and especially dumb when paired with shorts in SoCal in the summer.

I still don't want Crocs either.

Uggs are quite the fashion trend here on the bitter east coast. As part of Headliners campaign to acquire a pair, we received regular reports on the number of kids wearing them at school (ave ~95 pairs / day). They don't look bad when paired with winter clothes and I'm given to understand they are extra cool because they make a convenient place to discretely carry your cell phone.

Oh, don't get me wrong...they aren't sexy (or even all that attractive, preceding Ugg ad aside) however they are ever so comfy and warm (especially in 6° weather). The "traditional" style are pretty much "out" as a fashion item around here except with people under about 20 (I do have to say that they are cute on youngish girls with casual skirt and dresses...by "youngish", I mean about 4-18)

I agree completely.

They were big for our swim and surf teams in high school, but other than that, this Uggs with shorts is a new phenomenon to me.

I want a pair for the winter. I hate it when my feet are cold. You'd never catch me wearing them with shorts.

Not Afraid 01-13-2009 11:19 AM

Uggs were designed to be worn post-surfing and beach going in Australia. They ARE beach shoes.

MouseWife 01-13-2009 11:55 AM

I can so see wearing them when it's cold. My 'snow' boots don't look like 'snow' boots and I'll wear them when it's cold and raining.

I can see wearing them after surfing/beach~warm up the feet.

The only reason I wouldn't give the kids a hard time for wearing them with a uniform would be on the very cold days. But, I am not hip on uniforms.

I would think, though, if those girls are walking a lot outside and need the warmth, that the shoes might be clunky and they should wear more comfortable walking shows with tights/leggings, etc. Just my opinion.

I bought these last week (to replace my black Chucks)

I know I said earlier in the thread that the shoes in classic black weren't as comfortable as I remember. I think it was a sizing issue. I tried them on again and they fit (but the black with white was to throw-back to 7th grade) and the black/gray check are super comfortable.

Well, I was gonna.

Then I saw these lovelies at bluefly.com:

Cole-Haan, currently $99 but they were about $82 when I ordered. They came today and, swanky ones, they make the feet look teensy weensy.

Now all I need is sandals weather. Currently, it's snowing here.

Morrigoon 03-21-2009 08:17 PM

I need new work shoes. I like my work shoes, but they've always been 1/2 a size too big and I'm noticing that I'm having more and more foot pain because I'm always wearing either my work shoes or ballet flats. So I need to wear my sneakers more, but I also need well-fitting work shoes. Black oxford style works for me.

What do you think I should use, Sketchers? My "old" work shoes that I replaced were Sketchers boots and they lasted me years. I'd still use them but they're a bit small now (opposite problem from my current shoes)

alphabassettgrrl 03-22-2009 07:18 PM

Skechers used to have a style I liked- just like the black Oxford. I haven't looked lately if they still have it; they discontinued it and I started buying a similar style from KMart.

I'm hoping Skechers brings back that style. I really liked it.

WANT

(The shoes I'm talking about are just over 3/4 the way down the page)

Of course, since I'm not going to the event, and don't have $75 anyway, not going to happen. But OMG...

Ghoulish Delight 04-10-2009 01:35 PM

OMG, I've solved my sandal dilemma!

I have for a while now had a very restrictive set of requirements for any sandals I buy.

1) I must be able to slip it on and off without having to use my hands. My most frequent use of sandals is to quickly throw on when I'm stepping outside for just a few moments (walking to the mail box, grabbing something from the car, going in and out while BBQing on the patio). I often have something in my hands on such occasions and need to be able to just step into my footwear

2) While I need to be able to easily slip them on and off, they also must have a way to be secured to my feet so that, on the rare occasion I do wear them for more than a short walk out my front or back door, they aren't in danger of slipping off my feat. This rules out flip-flops and 99% of sandal styles.

3) Velcro is not an option. I've tried it. Invariably the velcro gives out. Plus I hate the fact that my footwear makes noise when I take it off.

That pretty much has left me, for about a decade, with 1 style of sandal, something like this. With the strap unclipped they slip on and off, but the clip allows for a non-velcro option for securing them for longer wear.

Perfect. Except for the entirely unfashionable look. And for the fact that it's been a decade and it's all I've worn. I'm pretty over it. I've considered no longer requiring sandals to serve double duty, getting a "going out" sandal and a cheap pair of flipflops or something for around the house. But that's just too much footwear.

But today I believe I've solved the riddle.

They slip on, but the elastic webbing does a good job of holding them on my feet and can be tightened to secure them even further. I'm happy. And I'm sure CP will be too.

Andrew 04-10-2009 01:38 PM

Hey, I like those. Do you have a link to the product page?

Ghoulish Delight 04-10-2009 01:41 PM

They're Keen Ormond.

Zappos. I got them for a little less than that at Spot Chalet.

Deebs 04-10-2009 01:44 PM

Excellent solution, GD. I like 'em. They will work and they are far superior to your 10 years tired old ones.

Just to be clear, I haven't been wearing the same pair for 10 years. I've just been replacing sandals every couple of years with the same basic style for 10 years.

Deebs 04-10-2009 01:51 PM

Yes, I was not clear in what I said. I should have said 10 years tired style. I did understand before that you were not wearing worn-out, broken-down sandals.

Ghoulish Delight 04-10-2009 01:54 PM

Not since college.

Deebs 04-10-2009 02:00 PM

Heh.

And there was that one day you went to work wearing the sandals that made me giggle for 2 days.

Drince88 04-10-2009 04:14 PM

I had to throw away 4 pairs of pumps this week. I was wearing one pair (the bright blue ones), that I hadn't worn in quite a while, and happened to notice 'stuff' under my desk - it was the sole basically disentigrating.

For quite a while when I was wearing pumps semi-regularly, I'd bought a number of Nordstrom brand pumps in various colors, and these were one of them. So I checked my other ones. The navy, bright pink, and off-white ones all totally cracked along the sole when I flexed them.

I'm TRYING to be good and not replace them (since I have bought shoes and not purged lately), but it seems funny to only have red shoes, and all the rest be true neutrals in my closet. Fortunately (sort of) there's not a Nordstroms within afternoon shopping distance, so it's fairly easy to resist, since Macy's and Dillards don't carry a lot of wide sizes.

3894 04-13-2009 12:07 PM

This not-buying-shoes policy, Drince. I don't like it.

I bought two pair myself, both for serious walking. My fit issue is a B-width foot with a very narrow heel so everything with a back slips. Solution? The very good salesguy at the Mall of America's The Walking Company found two.

Exhibit 1: the velcro strap at the back

Now, normally I would not wear a Mary Jane but I am desperate enough to compromise. You know, the shoe really looks okay on. Who knew.

Exhibit 2: the heel strap

The salesguy kept calling these gladiator sandals. I don't see it but I did take a really long walk in them yesterday. No blisters, very comfortable, and pretty nice looking, too.

I bought a pair but had to return them because they were too small. I bought a new pair of running shoes this weekend though.

For the record - wore them all 3 days at Coachella.

Best.

Sandal.

Ever.

3 days, constant walking in extreme heat, never fell off my feet, and not a single blister. Even with my well-worn, most comfortable pairs of shoes in the past Coachella caused some sort of blister. With these, other than the unavoidable fatigue of being on my feet for 10 hours a day, I came out completely unscathed.

How good were they? I'm going to be testing how well I can speed walk in them this week. If that's not a problem, then I'm planning on wearing them for Mouse Adventure.

"When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping."

Sierra Trading is having a sale. I bought me these Mephistos

blueerica 05-22-2009 01:56 PM

I need to indulge in a little shoe-shopping. Need cute new black flats.

Sigh. Consulting this thread I see that my last shoe purchase hasn't even made it a year and there's it's literally coming apart at the seams :(. Which is a shame 'cause I really liked these.

Hopefully my new pair of Skechers will be more durable.

If it's not too rude can I ask why you broke your tradition? It seems like such a good one.

Work had more influence over my stay this time. Usually I travel alone, or with one or two colleagues. This time, I traveled with my boss, and her boss, and had no room to add an extra day where I could get out on my own at a time when the shops would still be open.

Sorry it worked out that way. I hope the trip was good work-wise, though. My suggestion: next time, buy two pair.

Disneyphile 05-26-2009 11:40 PM

I've really been needing new boots for all-day casual shoots. So, today, I found these through a close-out site for only $40, so I totally couldn't resist (but this site had better photos of them):

Boots

3894 05-29-2009 11:37 AM

$40 seems like a great price for those, Disneyphile. :snap:

Thierry Rabotin, mon amour, why must you be so out-of-my-league pricey?
$395 smackeroos + shipping

If you see me in these shoes, have me arrested. It is criminal to spend that kind of money.

Prudence 05-29-2009 11:45 AM

I decided to assume that the condo sale will go through and splurge a little (it was a sale!) on replacing my ancient held-together-by-hope-and-prayer sandals. I was mostly looking for comfort, and I can't wear thong sandals.

And, for no rational reason:

Disneyphile 06-04-2009 03:18 PM

My new boots arrived today! :D

They are SO comfy and fit very well! I love the side zipper for easy on/off. :snap:

3894 06-22-2009 11:32 AM

I went on a shoe spree. They're all comfort shoes and all of 'em black. I've got ground to cover this summer, you see. Here's what I got:

Add this first one to the list of things you can cry timber! over. Yes, it's an Earth Shoe and yes, I once swore I would never wear them.

This one is an Ecco. It's the perfect walking sandal and would do ultra well at the DLR, just sayin'.

Ah, the divineness of Merrells. I love this shoe. It won't look out of place in Paris or in a cave near Lascaux, two places I'll be.

Stan4dSteph 06-22-2009 12:03 PM

I have a pair of those Merrells in brown and green.

Ghoulish Delight 07-22-2009 02:14 PM

Here's some (potentially awful) news that concerns regulars of this thread:

Amazon's buying Zappos.

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/0...wt&twt=nytimes

innerSpaceman 07-22-2009 02:20 PM

Well, I'm glad I just got my Zappos fix with FOUR new pairs of tennies, in glorious colors (well, 'cept I replaced my old grays that were getting nasty).

A person of the male persuasion with my diminuative foot size cannot hope to EVER find shoes at brick & mortar, and Zappos is (was?) my savior. I hope this does not change.

But, sigh, everything does.

Ghoulish Delight 07-22-2009 02:25 PM

Sh*t which reminds me, I think I still have a pair of sandals that needs returning. Good thing I have a year! I swear, Amazon, if you f*ck Zappos up I will personally find some sort of corporeal analog of you and murder it. Not even because I use it, that pair of sandals is the only thing I've actually purchased from them and I'm going to return them. But damnit, it's actually a successful business model built on not treating customers as enemies to vanquish and it would suck mightilly for that to be wiped out.

innerSpaceman 07-22-2009 02:30 PM

That said, though Zappos has generous return policy and good customer service (important for an internet cobbler), I've never had a problem returning anything to Amazon.

Amazon's decent. Zappos is exceptional. The only other time I tried to buy something there it was out of stock..so the customer service person sat on the phone with me and helped me find what I was looking for at another retailer. THAT is what Amazon had better not ruin.

innerSpaceman 07-22-2009 02:43 PM

Yeah, I agree. Zappos is (was) exceptional ... and, yeah, I fear that might change. Oi.

BarTopDancer 07-22-2009 02:49 PM

I'll put ShoeBuy second to Zappos. Amazon after both.

Not Afraid 07-22-2009 06:12 PM

Good! I can just add on a pair of shoes to get free shipping when my order is under $50.

Prudence 07-29-2009 06:53 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stan4dSteph 08-02-2009 02:53 PM

Stopped by DSW while at the mall and spotted the snow boots I was coveting last season. I snatched up a pair. Not going to wait for these to go on clearance.

bewitched 08-02-2009 08:25 PM

Cute Steph!

I just bought these along with 6 other pairs of shoes for O and me, all "athletic" type shoes. (O got these cute, for a 9yo, hi-tops)

Damn you, Nordstrom anniversary sale!

I am generally pretty blah about shoes these days since I still can't wear heels. I'm bored with flats.

eta: Just ordered 3 more. In my defense, prices do go up tomorrow.

Andrew 08-08-2009 02:35 PM

Ordered: Keen Springwater cycling/spinning shoes, which retail for $130 but I found them at eriksbikeshop.com for $90.

Those are CUTE!

Prudence 08-09-2009 12:59 AM

I'm seriously considering these:

Not Afraid 08-09-2009 09:01 AM

What a great combination of colors!

Prudence 08-09-2009 10:52 AM

They got the mom seal of approval, and I have a coupon. I suspect they shall be mine.

alphabassettgrrl 08-09-2009 05:04 PM

Pru- good choice! Those are *gorgeous*!

Stan4dSteph 08-18-2009 12:24 PM

Has anyone ever bought TOMS shoes? I'm contemplating getting these. Any opinions, yea or nay?

Snowflake 08-19-2009 12:46 PM

Merrell, where have you been all my life? Man, Encore Breeze are super comfy! Happy Feet!

BarTopDancer 08-22-2009 10:25 AM

Bought two new pairs of shoes for my new job.

I'm thinking of exchanging the first pair for blue instead of red, since I have a lot more clothes with blue accents then red/pink accents.

alphabassettgrrl 08-22-2009 10:34 AM

I love the black ones!

Not Afraid 08-22-2009 03:48 PM

What brand are the red ones?

I'm looking for some dressier flats for my new job.

BarTopDancer 08-22-2009 04:29 PM

Both pair are Aerosole. Super comfortable. They also come in blue and I think black and maybe brown.

Shoebuy has them for $10 less than Macy's they have been running a 20% off promo + $5 off if you use google checkout. I scored both pairs for a little over $100.

3894 10-14-2009 09:27 AM

Two pairs on sale for $24.99 each, one pair black, other pair bronze.

Andrew 10-14-2009 09:36 AM

So I need new running shoes and new combat boots, both right now before we leave on vacation. That's money I wasn't planning on spending right now.

ok, now that i found a cool costume at the L.A. Opera sale, I need shoes to go with. Ya know, gay '90's shoes.

No, not the 1890's that are usually called the gay '90s, I mean the 1790's where the shoes were so damn gay.

And I don't want to spend a fortune on shoes I will wear once. But i need me some gay, big buckle, total dandy shoes. Where????

Can you add something like this to a pair of shoes you already own?

innerSpaceman 10-14-2009 02:21 PM

oooh, those are swell. But i think i'm gonna go with some boots i found on the aforementioned Amazon-owned Zappos. The buckles would be great on them, but they wont attach easily like they would to shoes.

I'm gonna keep them in mind until the boots come and I see them in the flesh. Thanks, bewitched!

bewitched 10-14-2009 04:10 PM

As an aside, I think most Halloween stores carry them.

In reference to this Ack! IT didn't work. But there was a thread that Moonie was referencing.

Pair 1 is still in excellent condition and still super comfortable.

The other 2 are still around but my jeans aren't long enough to wear with the heel height of any of them at this time.
