I'm all for authenticity, but....

...this might be taking it a bit too far...

A man was allegedly stabbed by a street entertainer dressed as Freddy Krueger the “Nightmare on Elm Street” character in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

'Real metal'... nice. Oy.
:(

innerSpaceman 05-22-2006 08:20 AM

Um, please say you're freaking kidding, cause this is about to freak me the hell out.

Lemme explain.

We're at the Cemetary Screening the other night, and were delighted by the attendance of the elusive Eliza Hodgins 1812. She told us a story of how she was momentarily freaked by the appearance of Freddy Kreuger as they crossed opposite-direction escalators at the Metro station. She was at first aghast at the horrific burn face, but - upon seeing the scissor-claw hand, was -whew- relieved to discover it was only Freddy Kreuger.

Only in Hollywood would you be relieved to see Freddy Krueger.

Or not!

I remember seeing him when I was there last. I also remember thinking that they did a good job with his claws. Not only this, but I thought 'Hmm, what if I decided to just dress up like a horror villain and do the same thing. Would anyone inquire about me working for the theatre at all?' :D

CoasterMatt 05-22-2006 08:57 AM

Well, there's signage out front stating that the characters DON'T work for the theater, and even encourage people not to give them any money.

I thought I had clocked on the "New Show at DCA" thread and I was wondering what lovely place had rogue dancing stuffed things populating the entrance.

I used to wait tables at a steak house while in college. On slow nights, while in the kitchen, I would tape steak knives to my fingers and play Freddy Kreuger.

The character violence in front of the Chinese is usually character-to-character, not character-to-tourist.

These guys can be vicious. You can't just show up there in a costume and compete with them for tips. They will eat you alive. There's a reason Chinese Kreuger had real steel claws. The photo-tip turf is defended with tooth and nail.

I saw Elmo get pretty nasty with the Tin Man.

Yeah, but the scariest part about EH's sighting is that she saw that exact guy on the subway, that exact day, merely hours before the altercation. Holy shi'ite.

Careful. This is Californai, she may get sued for failing to prevent the crime.

Wolverine would totally kick Freddy's ass. Berserker, baby!

scaeagles 05-22-2006 11:43 AM

Agreed. Wolverine would heal from anything Freddy could dole out. But Freddy has those cool stretching arms, so maybe Wolverine could get close enough?

CoasterMatt 05-22-2006 11:58 AM

They'd just fight and fight, until Wolverine laid down to sleep... :)

Moonliner 05-22-2006 12:56 PM

What would happen if you cut wolverine down the middle?
