MiceQuest and Gumball Rally
|
oh, THAT kind of Gumball Rally. :snap:
and here I was tuning up the hotrod for a cross country race. bummer :( |
I was happy when Kevin Yee stopped doing MouseAdventure. I'm not sure I want to subject myself to that again for any reason.
|
Did Kevin Yee work on this? It's at Disneyland. I know he's done some stuff for WDW.
Not that it matters to me who worked on it, anyway. |

Just looked at the pricing - ack. It's per person not per team. A four person team in the two hour event would be $140.

The original Gumball Rally
|
I'd like to do it but man, it's expensive! I may do the Gumball Rally tho. Gotta think it over. Anyone else going to do it?
|
I'm not planning on doing it. I will do MA this fall though.

Chris, Andris and Flub did Geek Quest - all the attractions in reverse chronological order. I stayed at home in bed. ;)

Heheh, it reminds me of the game I was devising for the LoT ... only of course, mine was going to cost a lot less per person ... and be a real Road Rally ... not something done within the confines of Disneyland.
I had to postpone it, dear readers, because of too much going on this summer ... but my good ideas never die - - so look for this event to come more cheaply and much more adventurishly to a message board much nearer you - - perhaps Spring 2007! __________________ |
Oh, and I was sorta planning a Geek Quest II for this coming Saturday at the Park ... when they will be opening at 6:30 a.m. Any of you folks can still do it, be my guest, and FOR FREE.
In honor of the Pirates Premier that night, the gimmick of this Geek Quest would be to go on every Disneyland attraction that has been substantially changed, in the chronological order of the change. So, Peter Pan, Mr. Toad and all the Fantasyland dark rides that were updated in 1983 (and '84) would be in, but Pinocchio would be out. Space Mountain would be waaaay in, but Splash Mountain might be out. Are new logs a substantial change? Up to you to decide. What about Indy? New snake good enough to qualify? Certainly Harold being added to the Matterhorn makes the cut. No need to worry whether the two-train bobsled cars make it a qualifier. Most of the Park's attractions have been changed, so most rides would be included. But the good news is ... no need to ride Winnie the Pooh! Alas, I can't make it to the Park that early this Saturday. But if anyone wants a FREE attraction quest, with a theme appropos to the giant changes about to befall Pirates of the Caribbean .... get to the Park at the crack o' dawn and have yourselves a good ol' time! |

Spooky. |
Try riding every ride in the park according to MANUFACTURE date of it's ride system, then get back to me...
|
Gumball Rally - whatever. No real interest from me. A geek quest to ride all the rides is only fun when surrounded by a group of friends.
As for the MiceQuest - yes, I'm interested. I'm interested in conquering any and all Disney events. How cool would it be to have a LoT team do really well, too? I'm surprised no one else seems to be up for it. |
ok, I'm confused ... and I can't be bothered to read much of micechat. Is the Gumball Rally separate from the MiceQuest? Huh?
Edited to add: Eh, whatever! I'm not paying either $35 or $45 to galavant around the Park. Sheesh, even when I was still affiliated with micechat, that GayDay game I was going to run was only going to cost $5 per person. I'm not giving any money to that grubbing organization. Their entire philosophy of pay-service message board and rake-in-the-dough events just rubs me the wrong way. BTW, with the prices being charged now, I wouldn't pay for MouseAdventure either. (yeah, it'd be quite the Sophie's Choice if I weren't being allowed to play gratis.) |

Yes seperate events running at the same time. |
The concepts of the events are interesting to me - well, Mice Quest anyways. But, I feel they are too expensive for a team of 4 ($135). But, MC is an extremly popular board and, if they can get that kind of money for this event, more power to them.
But, I want to refrain from bashing another board here. We just don't need to be involved in a board war for any reason. LoT is a completely different environment and it's that was for a reason. That should be enough to keep us happy. |

And as for Jen saying how cool would it be for a LoT team to do well.. don't we do that every MA? It's not a board war, it's just pride in your friends doing well. |
There have been some things said that could easily be percieved as board-warish. That's what I would like to avoid. It's a fine line and I suggesting that none of us cross it. However, if anyone would like to say things about another board, I'm not going to stop you, I just won't take responsbility for the tone set by some here.
As for Lot being enough, look at my own post coun on MC and you'll get the answer. |
Ok, I thought the MQ was $35 a team, not per person. Forget that. From the way they're talking ("Disney fees", dessert party afterwards) I think this is going to be a Big Thunder Ranch event. As Alex has pointed out many times that really isn't cheap. I wonder how many people they're planning to host.
If anything I've said is board-warrish, please point it out. It was never my intention. Those blanket statements always make me wonder if you're talking to me or not. |
From what I understand, the base price is for a team of 2 and it goes up from there as you add team members.

CHOC is just part of CHOCOLATE and is a dispicable organization. ;)
|
I think the main part of the cost is the dessert party at Big Thunder after hours.

From the MC event information:
Desert Party only (no event participation) $20 per person Gumball Rally (All Day Event): $45 for 1 $95 for 2 $135 for 3 $180 for 4 Includes Desert Party MiceQuest (2 hour event) $35 for 1 $70 for 2 $105 for 3 $140 for 4 Includes Dessert Party |
So Micequest for 2 people is cheaper than two people attending just the dessert party. Seems like a deal.

Some will play. Some won't. Either way, it will still be fun. :) |

OK, I read the registration information incorrectly. I edited my post to reflect the actual prices. It's actually now more that I originall thought. |
Oops! Okay, well at least that makes more sense. I wondered why it would be cheaper for two people to do the quest than to attend the dessert party alone since the dessert party is basically at-cost already.
|
So it's cheaper to be two singles at the gumball rally than a duo? Not that it matters to me.
|
It's very nice that a charitable donation is being made. I also understand that the FestoFools area is very expensive to rent. So why rent it and why donate money to charity? There's nothing wrong with either thing, but I miss the days when these in-park games were not such a high-ticket item.
Excuse me for suspecting the profit motive behind this event. Either way, my foot tastes fine, ta very much. As for board wars ... yeah, I will have to watch what I say. I don't have much nice to say about micechat or its founders ... and yet someone started a thread about their game here on the LoT. One of the things I appreciate about the LoT as much as the swank vibe is the ability to speak my piece. To keep the peace, I'll squelch what I might want to say about micechat. But threads about that place here on the LoT are awfully tempting for me to say exactly what I think about that place and the people who started it. |
<sigh> Some of us would love to pay to go...but alas...moving away puts a stop to that

I'm not going to moderate anyone for stating their opinion, but I have seen where this crap goes - or has gone in the past - and I'd like to leave that in the dust of the boards left behind. Unless we want to go through more crap.....
|
Eh, I'm done. I've no doubt my snarkiness will reach the eyes or ears of those to whom it is directed, and for that I will be content ... for I've kept my mouth shut about plenty, and been polite in person, and bottled up rage and sadness in good measure.
Hopefully, this tiny allowance of my snarkiness will suffice to keep me out of therapy for another few months. |
Don't worry. I've caused enough grief already in the other side of the world.
|
I farted in the elevator at work once, and it was so foul that the janitors got out at an earlier floor than they'd originally planned.
|
Aw, that's nuthin'. My dad can clear an entire sidewalk at Disneyland with his Flatulence-On-Demand! If you ever want a perfectly clear view of the parade and/or fireworks, just bring my dad along. (And a gas mask. ;) )
