ARRRRRRRRRRR PotC 7/7 Anyone?
I saw Lisa briefly mentioning it in another thread, but I can't remember where.
Anyone want to plan a meet? |
I was thinking of hitting the late show (10ish) at The Block. You can get advanced tickets thru Moviephon or somwhere. None of the Edwards sell advanced tickets (that I can see). But, that's what was going on in my scatered brain. I thought we might try an OC meet for once as well.
|
I read this and all I can think of is some pirate ordering ISM a drink...
|
The Monkey and I arrrrr gonna see it that night at CityWalk, and probably go to Howl at the Moon, and Saddle Ranch (ok, not exactly piratey, but good fun nonetheless)

Edwards is available at Fandango.com Spectrum has one at 7:15 and 10:45, and of course 11:59 |

ETA - I just noticed it's a 2.5 hr movie! Dude. |
Well, I have to work, so I'm gonna have to pass.;)
We do have tickets for Sunday the 9th, though. Regal Cinemas, Northown. Let's have a meet, okay? :D |

I've noticed that ZERO reviews have been posted about the movie itself after it's premier at Disneyland. Was security really so tight that NO ONE from the any of the boards was able to sneak a peek? What did they have, real pirates guarding the perimeter?
|
I'll drive to The Block or to DTD.

I'm seeing it in 4 hours.
|
I was tring to avoid traffic as well. There's no WAY I'm going to the Spincter in the early evening. It's easier to get to the Westside!
|

Poo poo head. |
However, since I need to take the bus and then BART up to the city to see it, even though I get into the screening room for free I will still end up paying $12.25.
|

If everyone else wants to sit in traffic then thats ok. I don't have to see it with this group, I just thought it would be fun. If people want to get there early to line up and have no problem with some of us getting there later (after traffic) then that would be cool, but I'm not expecting that. |
Hence my original suggestion of going to the 10ish show.

Do any theaters in OC do assigned seating like the Arclight?

I know Fej was trying to get out of the parking garage the night DaVinci opened and NOT having fun. Not that The Block is any better.
|
Quote:
The Block has additional exits. I think. It's been forever since I've been there. Is the 5 on-ramp still closed/messed up? |
There is still construction around the Block. I believe the entrances and exits are open but it's all screwy anyway.
The Spectrum is obviously the most convenient for us, but we're easy. You guys figure it out ;) |
I work 2 minutes from the Spectrum. I'd prefer the Spectrum for that and the fact that it's closer to home. I think it's time for a south county meet. We've had enough LA county and DL meets these past few months. So ya.
|
If you want to go to a late show at the Speculum, we're ok with that, but I'm not going to tackle 2 hours of traffic to get there for an early show (8 would be pushing it for us) I'd love to go with a group, but I can see it at several theaters that are MUCH closer and aren't such a mess to get to. Whatever works for you guys.
|
I think we are all on the same page. No one wants to sit in traffic How would a 10pm show work, where ever. Whoever is closer can get in line. So if we're doing the Spectum CP/GD and I can wait in line and if we're doing the Block you and Chris (or whoever else) and wait in line.
Or we can all just go see it on our own. |
If you guys want to go to the Spectrum, go for it. It's a long treck for us to sit in traffic on a Friday night and stand in line for another couple of hours. The Spectrum isn't much of a "destination" spot when I can go to another shopping mall with a theater 10 minutes away. I will miss the company though.
THe Block's not much of a destination either, but I can get ther in 45 mins and that's reasonable for that "value" of destination - and being with friends. |
That is why I was agreeing with your 10ish show at whereever theater. Whoever was closer got in line and those who were further left after traffic died down.

Let me talk to Chris again. He's got a 1 1/2 hour train ride before we even get in the car. I may have to feed him with cocktails first. ;)
|

|
So, is there something fun do do before or after the film?
Maybe Chris can take the train to the Sphincter. Then I can come down early and go to the Apple store. |
If the movie is at 10:15 and it's a 2.5 hour movie that means we'll be done at umm... after 1230am. Just in time for second dinner.
If Chris wants to take the train I can pick him up (if you wanted), I'm not too far from that. Then again so could CP or GD. (like how I'm volunteering you guys?). Or were you saying you would come down, pick Chris up and then go to the Apple store. I'm so confused. |
Well, he wouldn't leave Union Station until at least 5 or 5:30. I don't know what time that would get him into Irvine or how much it would cost, but one of us could go and pick him up. The station isn't that far from the Rectum.
|
So are we doing the 10:15 show at the Spectrum?
|
I need to talk to Chris first to see if it is doable for him. He's in a meeting at the moment.

Well, I'm home now - I guess I'll look into taking the train down to the spectrum (or spectrum adjacent) next Friday. Methinks I'll miss the days when this was an Amtrak route to San Diego and there was a bar car, but it seems doable. Perhaps afterward we can pcik up some medical supplies.
|
no, i think € should Metro in the other direction and see it with me and a gang at The Vista in East Hollywood.
It's a gorgeous, Egyptian-Themed movie palace. Easily one of the most beautiful theaters in California ... and certainly the most comfy (they removed every other row of seats, and have the most absurdly awesome amount of legroom). I don't feel like seeing Pirates in a black box auditorium, so this is just the ticket for me. I realize most peeps are are O.C.-centric, but I'm just sayin' - - -this is where I'm seeing it opening night, and all are welcome. Tix are not yet on sale, but soon. |
Is it Metro station close?
|
Not that I know of. Sunset and Vermont. About a quarter-mile walk from there.
I'm not a subway commuter, so I'll have to leave station closure research to your expertise. |
1 week away. YAY! I hope my hopes for this movie aren't up too high.
What's the verdict? |
Chris says he can take the train. I say let's do it. I'll make a Mac appointment for earlier in the day then I can go to Anthropologie.
Fej may join us as well, depending on what time he gets off work. He'll know later today. So, do we get advanced tickets? What are we doing again. Can someone handle it? I'm toast today. |
East Hollywood? Sigh. Don't know if I'm in the mood for that...we may just hit the Spectrum....

Ah, I was confused. iSm was talking train, and then NA said Chris would do it. Guess I should have read the rest of the post
See you there then  |
Aye the track runs in two directions ;)

So, is someone going to buy all the tickets in advance?

Actually, I wish we lived closer to iSm's theater, as it sounds much cooler than the Speculum. Color me green. |

Hmmm that means having to get their early to buy tickets which makes the lengthy train trip more risky for me |

I'm leaning towards 10:45. Gives us all plenty of time to arrive in a leisurely manner.
|
Ok, 10:45 showing. Please buy your tickets and post when you do. Line-up arrangements TBD.
|
We'll decide about going later in the week. I know Susan is going to a Midnight showing Thursday night/Friday morning at El Cap with her sister.
|
And, fyi, if you do buy through Fandango, there's a ultra-convenient "swipe your credit card" machine to get your tickets. Take seconds, so no worries about showing up and dealing with will-call lines.
|
The Vista is right by us. We may be up for that-- but I've been running to bridal meetings nonstop since I got to Michigan so after my flight back tomorrow I may be in bed for the next week. Or so. When I'm not at work.
|
I have to work till 11 that night, so can't make it.
Luckily I will be seeing it at 11:59 on the 6th. :p I can tell you spoilers if you come by and visit me at work. |
I'll be buying my ticket later today.
|
Ok - I just picked up a pair of tickets for the 10:45 show
|
Done and done.
|
Done.
|
Heheh, did I mention that the Vista tickets cost a mere Eight Dollars? For movie house magnificence, and the best leg room in history. Quite the deal.
Oh, and Variety today gave the movie one of the worst reviews I have ever read. Hmmmmmm. |

iSm: What was Variety's opinion of Superman?
|
Variety was not gushing about Superman, but gave it a mostly positive review.
Comparison to the Matrix sequels of guaranteed-money-making sequel suckitude was made, however, to the Pirates follow-up film. |
Yeah, I've seen some of the pull quotes. But I was wondering if they continued the trend I noted in another thread of people like either Superman or PotC but not both.
|
Yeah, I figured that's what you were getting at. I couldn't say they were in the Love-It camp for Superman, but they were favorable to it.

I'm really hoping Alex has somthing here. If he does then PotcIIdmc will reach new heights of nirvina seldom if ever acheived in the history of cinematic presentations. Yeah, I really hated superdud. |
Well, I'm not saying that they're equal and opposite reactions, just opposite.
|
Arrrr, I be ignorin' the critics, for they all be scalywags from the 7th layer of Hades! (Alex Stroup excepted.)
I be achin' for a glimpse with me own eye, then, by God above, I'll be the judge of this Piratey sequel. Read an interview with Mr. Depp (Newsweek I think) and he be so enchanted with Cap'n Jack that he wouldn't mind more staggering and eyeliner as long as, let's say it together, "the scripts are good". Arrrr. |
I am so freeking excited about this movie. I am never excited about movies! I'm tempted to go to the 11:59 screening since I don't have to work tomorrow.
|
Susan just called a little while ago from the El Cap. Already about 80 people in line at 9:00 (she already has tix).
|
I'm holding off until next Sunday but I already have my tix for the El Cap. I'm excited no matter what the critics say!
|
Saw a bunch of pirate geeks in line for the midnight showings at the Spectrum. You'd think that if you're going to camp out, you'd at least head to DTD or the El Cap or something...anyway, plenty of striped shirts, plastic sword fights, and a chick dressed in a full Elizabeth dress.
Geeks. Or rather, 3rd tier geeks :p |
We saw the line up for the El Cap's midnight show before we caught the red line home after the Bowl. Looked like they were having a lot of fun. If we thought this through correctly this is the show we should have gone to. Oh well, Belle & Sebastian were great and we have tickets for tomorrow's gig at the Spectrum - See you there.
|
Just got in from 12:01 showing at Winnetka 21...
Fun movie, but nothing too spectacular. I gotta be at work at 8:30, so it's nap time :D |

I was right near that girl...or one of them.... Something cool about the movie Spoiler:
|
There are going to be line-ups tonight too. I'm no longer 5 minutes from there, but since I am not working I can get there earlyish. What time should we line up?
|
We enjoyed the movie and had a lot of fun. It was my sons first midnight movie!
We are talking about going again tonight at our local theater. I heard they are giving away the posters and have other prizes for costumes and such. I'm far too tired at the moment and need a nap already. |
I have a 5:00 appointment with my Personal Genius that will go u ntil 6. Chris will be arriving at the station at some point around 6 (if all goes well). I have no idea where the station is from the Spectrum, but I know it is close. So, we'll both be around for line standing arond 6:30, I presume. Or, maybe some other scallywag can pick him up.

I'm off work at 5, CP at 6. We'll want to stop at home first. Probably be there 7ish. I'll probably be there around

I ended up seeing the movie last night at midnight down in San Diego... I'll wait to discuss it. I have some thoughts on it...
|
Saw it today at DTD at 6:15 in theater 5. Any other Swankers in the audiance? It was a cool group, I could tell they were all fans.
I liked the movie, and couldn't realy find a single fault. ~Bob |

Never mind. |
Really, RStar? Maybe I should wait until more people see it. I was a big fan of the first movie. It was rich with detail, texture, classic storytelling and comedy elements, legend, and had a strong romantic storyline. All in all, a nearly perfect film. This lacked in so many ways I can barely contain myself over it.
Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining, but paled in comparison to the original. When more people see it, I'll drag out my laundry list. |
Well, I have to admit that the reson it didn't dissapoint me is two fold (very slight spoilers).
1) I went in knowing what to expect from what I read about it (Alex, newspapers, and online) 2) The lacking romantic part is not as important to me. I'm an action and story guy. There was a story, while so many said the plot suffered. Sure, character development suffered a little in favor of action. But that didn't bother me as much because they developed them so much in the first film (with the exception of the new ones of course), and I knew there would be a third film and this is a bridge to it. And the ending was cool. I got out of it exactly what I wanted. And the crowd cheered and applauded, so most of them must have as well. So can I find faults as a piece of film, or a work of art. Sure, but it's entertainment. I'm a movie buff and watch them often including the classics, and go to the movies once or twice a week. And I liked it and plan to see it again next week. But everyone has different opinions, and tastes. So, please share yours after a while, I'm interested to see what you thought. ~Bob |
I can safely say the best part of the evening was the company I was in.
