Hardworking dedicated employee available

They just forced my resignation. Complete B.S. reasons, they're just cleaning house.

I'm just numb. If anyone knows anyone who wants a hard working dedicated employee please let me know.

Oh ya, and I need a lawyer. I don't know where to start.

Moonliner 06-29-2006 10:40 AM

Bitch.

Hit http://www.craigslist.com for starters and check the employment ads for your area.

Good luck and try not to worry too much, life does this sort of **** all the time.

katiesue 06-29-2006 10:45 AM

So sorry to hear. That just bites. I'd put in some calls to headhunters. They might also have some knowledge of lawyers that deal in your area of expertise.

Gemini Cricket 06-29-2006 10:48 AM

Sorry to hear that, Marla. Hang in there. Their loss.

Good luck with the search!

Andrew 06-29-2006 11:14 AM

www.findlaw.com is great for on-your-own legal research as well as finding lawyers.

As far as finding a new job, I agree craigslist is the way to go--along with Monster and Dice.

And I owe you a drink next time I see you.

BarTopDancer 06-29-2006 11:14 AM

Thanks guys.

tracilicious 06-29-2006 11:18 AM

I'm sorry! :(

I'm sure someone out there will appreciate the awesomeness that you are!

DreadPirateRoberts 06-29-2006 11:26 AM

:(

Cadaverous Pallor 06-29-2006 11:37 AM

Good news:
You have lots of experience
You live in tech-centric OC
You're young and hardworking

Get out there, I know you'll find somewhere better to be

scaeagles 06-29-2006 11:41 AM

That just sucks.

When life gives you lemons, peal them open and squirt the juice in the eyes of those who dared to give you them in the first place.

BarTopDancer 06-29-2006 12:02 PM

Thanks guys.

All I know is that GD was laid off and we got unemployment, no problem.

katiesue 06-29-2006 12:19 PM

When I moved a few years ago and had unemployment there was a "waiting" period if you quit but it kicked in right away if you were fired. That was the difference. I'd call them or maybe check their website.

That might be the key. You need to talk to a professional, or someone who has been in this situation before.

Ponine 06-29-2006 12:34 PM

My understanding is that there is always the one week waiting period, so the sooner you get down there, and get started the better.

But there are differences between fired, and laid off that deal with your pay from unemployment.

BarTopDancer 06-29-2006 12:43 PM

ok, I made up my mind and I am going to delete my other posts just in case they start reading stuff.

Moonliner 06-29-2006 12:44 PM

You should also give a thought to how "resigned" vs "fired" will look to a perspective employer. Do you need to use this job on your resume? Will it leave an awkward hole if you don't? You can negotiate things like a promise of a positive reference if you resign (just be sure to test that with a dummy call).

I'm not sure you will get very far with a lawsuit. Most companies are "employment at will" which means they can fire you without cause. Typically you only have a case if you can show you were fired to prevent you from getting a promised benefit (like a pension) or because of a protected classification (ie fired due to your race).

Motorboat Cruiser 06-29-2006 12:45 PM

Really sorry to hear this, BTD. I'll let you know if I hear of anything.

Unemployment Insurance - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

12. When should an individual apply for UI benefits?
Individuals should apply for benefits as soon as they are unemployed, or working less than full-time. All claims are effective on the Sunday prior to applying for benefits, and have a one week unpaid waiting period. The waiting period does not begin until the claim is filed.

15. What are the eligibility requirements?
To be entitled to benefits an individual must be:
Out of work due to no fault of their own
Physically able to work
Actively seeking work
Ready to accept work

Snowflake 06-29-2006 01:07 PM

Hey Marla

I'm so sorry to hear this. Keep that chin up and your resume on Craigs list and Monster.

Bosses suck, too:(

BarTopDancer 06-29-2006 01:07 PM

Does anyone know about Constructive Discharges? Heres what I found. This is what it would be. http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/fe...nstructive.htm

Oooh, you should see your doctor about strange discharges. I've heard those aren't good.

SacTown Chronic 06-29-2006 01:58 PM

That sux, BTD. Sending positive vibes your way.

Not Afraid 06-29-2006 02:18 PM

That sucks. I hope you find something quickly in your area.

blueerica 06-29-2006 02:25 PM

BTD- you and I both know that place wasn't good. Sorry it went down badly, and I hope things pick up for you.

Disneyphile 06-29-2006 02:26 PM

I know that you and I do similar work. Check out Capital Group in Brea. They have a few listings on Monster right now, looking for people with VBA experience, and are starting in the mid-50's for those positions.

I've already had a couple phone interviews with them. :)

Morrigoon 06-29-2006 03:11 PM

Maybe when you move on DP she could apply for your job, LOL (nah, too far to drive to work with idiots)

Ghoulish Delight 06-29-2006 03:12 PM

My company's got a ton of openings in Bangalor, India.

wendybeth 06-29-2006 10:10 PM

BTD- I once quit a job but got unemployment because they determined no reasonable person could be expected to work in such circumstances. I had to take them to a hearing at the employment office, but I was so pissed I didn't care- I was even working somewhere else by the time they found in my favor, but I still got pay going back to the original filing date.

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you!!!!!!! I know you'll wind up in a much better job, but it still sucks when this happens.:(

BarTopDancer 06-29-2006 10:19 PM

WB, that's what this was. After talking with Erica and coming to terms with it we decided that this was more of a "how dare you dump me, I was going to dump you" situation.

I should have a positive update tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone. You really helped me feel better.

Kevy Baby 06-30-2006 07:06 AM

Good luck on the change Marla.

Keep us updated on how things progress.

lashbear 06-30-2006 08:01 AM

Hugs from Downunder.

My call centre has vacancies at the moment. (Really).

:D

BarTopDancer 06-30-2006 04:46 PM

Good news! About 4 hours after this went down I got a call from a company I interviewed with last week offering me a position. More money, better benifits and a position that will take me down the career path I want. YAY me! I didn't want to post anything until I had a start date. And I still have July 17th off.

Thanks again everyone!

Crystal 06-30-2006 04:57 PM

Congratulations! That's awesome news

Andrew 06-30-2006 05:44 PM

katiesue 06-30-2006 05:53 PM

Rockin' news! It seems like there's a lot of happy turnover on LoT these days. Glad to hear this new job should be a better path for you.
