So, who haven't we met?

Kells
Sleepy Jeff
Bridgette
Dread Pirate Roberts

Who else?

When are you scheduling your visit?:D

innerSpaceman 07-10-2006 10:24 PM

Yes, we're getting down to the bottom of the barrel, where some of the most precious gems seem to settle. Dig, dig, dig to find the truest gold. So come out, come out, wherever you are.

Come and play with us .... forever ... and ever ... and ever.

I have never formally met the gang other than in passing or most accurately being passed by teams of some of you during MouseAdventures. I did really try to go to scaeagles meet, but it was just a horribly busy day of us.

I have met up with Katiesue on several occasions, I walked up to GD and CP and introduced myself for all of 3 seconds 2 MouseAdventures ago, and while I was there, spoke with Ponine, oh that might have been 3 or 4 MouseAdventures ago.

Some day I will be brave...I swear.....

DreadPirateRoberts 07-10-2006 10:50 PM

What I find interesting is that for those of us who you have never met, each of you has a mental picture of what those of us unknowns may look like, based on either our screen name, or our posts. I'm sure we look nothing like your mental image.

scaeagles 07-11-2006 05:48 AM

Sleepy and Dread - be afraid. Be very afraid.

First, they will try to set up a meet in some secluded location. Arrive before the appointed time to take them by surprise so that their plans are a bit foiled. Sit near an exit, and certainly not with MBC near any door that lead backstage.

The crazy cat lady....the one thing about her is it's easy to get her monologuing (think The Incredibles). She likes to do that. So during those lenghty speeches, you can get away.

Do not eat a corndog prior to your arrival. Trust me, it isn't safe to smell like a corndog near MBC specifically.

Have a friend call you 5 minutes after you are supposed to arrive at the meet. This way, if they are all too scary (a genuine possibility), you can claim there is an emergency and leave.

These tips and tricks served me well, as I am still alive to tell you about them.

Gemini Cricket 07-11-2006 05:58 AM

Ahh don't you see? You went wrong right from the start. Don't let them plan anything. Just show up unnanounced at an unplanned meet in a location that they seledom if ever visit. That worked for me.

My survival instincts have always served me well.

Regarding a proxy....have you ever foolishly posted a picture and/or link to a picture of yourself on this board? If so, not a chance. NA would then be forced to hunt you down where you live, where you work, wherever you may be. One small slip up, as I can testify to, changes everything.

innerSpaceman 07-11-2006 08:22 AM

Dread Pirate, does that mean you are truly in port, er, in town?

There's a little event coming up at the Park next Sunday and Monday known as Disneyland's Second Fiftieth Birthday. It would not exactly be a meet in your honor, but it's a rare thing that's likely to bring out most of the faithful for a second week in a row.

Might you be able to attend???

Yep, that sounds like fun. I missed the 50th, and 51 is a lucky number for this crusty old pirate.

20 years ago Cary Elwes was what...10? You look like a 10 year old?

Capt Jack 07-11-2006 08:34 AM

I now have two encounters under my belt. I more or less survived the first one (barely) although overwhelmed beyond all comprehension. these people know that park like the back of their hands. the 2nd, I knew to wear walking shoes, a bucket-o-sunscreen and watch for the tallest members in the crowd...as these folk move thru the oceans of patrons with expertise unsurpassed. (that and most folks heard/saw us coming a mile away and ran for cover) :) uh...I still got lost at least 4 times. good thing the 'no (man) left behind' rule applies.

my best survival advice for you first timers

1) abandon all hope of escape.

2) learn, in detail, the words to 'Yo Ho a pirates life for me' (not as easy as one would initially think)

3) be prepared to encounter things and places and factoids in the park you never knew existed...like the backstage areas behind PoC, the exact riding depth and weight tollerance of any ride that uses a boat etc.

4) forget ANY hope you might have of trying to stay unnoticed in the park....just ain't possible.

remember, once assimilated you are forever one of the LoT special forces. no ship unsinkable, no line un-waitable, no meal too large (or aparrently too slow) and no obstacle un...uh...get-aroundable.

resistance is futile

I've met a few of you at past MouseAdventures, but that was pretty much still when everyone was at MP. I have to admit that the Pirates meet/sinking was a bit of a blurr for me. I was really in LA for my Grandmothers funeral and I had a few hours after I arrived before the rest of the family came in. Rather than spend it sitting in an LAX arrival gate I chose a little comfort trip. The meet was a happy coincidence for me. Which is why I was wearing a suite coat to DL....

Then to make matters worse, when I arrived at the meet for my surprise grand entrance, I tripped while stepping over the rope into the seating area and fell flat on my face. Fortunately the main body of the group was seated towards the back of the seating area and either missed my swan dive or were kind enough to not mention it.....

Ghoulish Delight 07-11-2006 02:00 PM

whom.

Ponine 07-11-2006 02:03 PM

I understand completely.
Well, I understand Moonliner, not GD.

I did not see the swan dive, nor had I heard about it till this moment.
I just happened to turn around while on the phone with LibraryVixen, running through the list of attendees with her, and saw a guy in a suit coat.
I dont think at that moment I knew who you were. I found out fairly quickly however.

That aside, it was very nice to not meet you. ;)

No, you're not too old.
My first three 'meet's were so unbelievably difficult for me.
I followed NA around at an MA the first time I ever saw her for over a half hour trying to work up the nerve to say hello. (And I did not say a word to her that time)

Do what feels right to you. If any of the locals strike your fancy, send out a PM to them. Maybe you can have a very small, non-public meet. :)

Are too.

But seriously. I've survived two occasions with these people.

#1- was when I spooked Lisa by finding her in the lobby of the GCH. She was with several other people but I recognized her right off- and yes, I did come up and say hi (cause she doesn't scare me)

#2- was at my meet November 2004- let's see I met- NA (and scared her when she rode BTMRR with my daughter)and her charming husband who made my trip on Small World quite memorable. I met Zapp, and Mickeylumbo and Batopdancer who at the time was HBTiggerFan I think-I met Erica (whom my daughter just adored) and Tramspotter (I believe). MBC was there- and many others.....it was quite fun.

So yes, if even I can survive a meet- anyone can ;)

See, my issue is not with meeting a bunch of strangers, it's that I know DH is probably uncomfortable since he "knows" none of you. He doesn't read the boards, he doesn't have any friends online. How awkward would that be to come into a group that I am familiar with, yet know nobody. I'd go on my own, but when we're down there, we're doing a family vacation. I just don't think about going off and doing something on my own at the time.

Scrooge McSam 07-11-2006 06:51 PM

Leo,

Talk to Brigitte! Explain how it's done.

I understand your thinking, and here are other ways to look at meeting online people you know in person:

--For those of us who had "pen pals" before e-mail and the Internet, how cool would it be to finally meet your pen pal in person? In this case, instead of just writing to one person, we're all writing to a group of people at Lounge of Tomorrow with similar interests.

--Meeting a bunch of Disney fans at Disneyland can be one of the best ways to meet online acquaintances in person. It's a very public place with thousands of Guests, Cast Members, and fellow-Disney fans all around you.

--Meeting people you know for the first time does not have to be a big ordeal or an organized meet. Just a brief "hello" or chat would suffice, especially if you're on a family vacation. And, even family members or friends probably would not mind resting their feet in a shaded spot or air-conditioned building for a couple minutes while you say "hi" to some people you know or meet in person for the first time. Bring them along for those few minutes; you don't have to separate from your group/family.

--There's no pressure to actually meet anyone in person, but many people find that their online visits to certain boards will be enhanced after you've actually met some of your fellow bulletin-board members in person. It's about putting screen names, faces and personalities together in real life.

--Lastly, I'll just attest to the friendliness and overall welcoming atmosphere of just about everyone I've met from LoT. Just look at all the pictures and Disneyland experiences that many people post or write about here! :)

So far, I've met the yummy Szczezerzbziakz mazniakc, which was the best 'mini meet' I've ever been to !!

......and on the way out, Cemeinke tried to pick me up outside the fire department. I was able to fend off his advances, luckily. *Phew*

lashbear 07-13-2006 02:40 AM

Oh, do "Phone Meets" count ???

You were at a small Florida "phone meet," if I remember correctly.

...I remember it well ! It was so hot that afternoon.... :D

Not Afraid 07-13-2006 07:44 PM

It was VERY hot that afternoon at Disney Studios. Hotter than it is at home right now. I should be grateful, not grumpy.

Jazzman 07-13-2006 07:49 PM

I'd like to meet you all someday. I don't post much these days, but I lurk now and then and still think about how cool it would be to show up to a meet. After five years (and what, like four boards now?) posting around most of you, it'd be nice to put faces to names and actually speak with you guys.

... Though, I haven't quite been able to figure out how to speak in italics or smilies, so it could be a little weird at first. ;)

innerSpaceman 07-13-2006 07:50 PM

Yes, I'll have "bah" tattooed on my forehead, if you'll have a fan tattooed on yours.

BarTopDancer 07-13-2006 08:00 PM

I know both mhrc4 and HBMully (who have gone MIA on the boards but are alive and well in real life). Keelboat Captain is friends with Tramspotter, both have appeared to go MIA on the board as well.

€uroMeinke 07-13-2006 08:06 PM

Don't forget Tui - or is that Freaky Tiki?

Tramspotter just posted about Soy Sauce a few days ago, and we see him at the Cemetery.

innerSpaceman 07-13-2006 08:51 PM

We've never met Jazzman??

oh, that must be fixed.

CoasterMatt 07-13-2006 09:02 PM

Hey Ism, I know just the artist - he did my skull with Mickey ears and Rose's ankle surround. :D

We were a Hearthstone last night and a guy comes up to us and proceeds to name 5 of us my first name - Chris, Lisa, Jenny, Greg, Marla. Pretty good for a newbie.

Welcome to the fold Dread Pirate Roberts! It was great to meet you. Use the switchboard number to reach us again. We're around.

Ghoulish Delight 07-17-2006 11:10 AM

I didn't have a real name, but I did immediately figure that it must be Dread. Of course, the jolly roger ear ring was a good confirmation.

Thank you. That was aLOT of fun, sorry I had to bail out early.

We're tentatively coming down November 3rd thru the 10th...still waiting on approval (which he doesn't expect to be a problem) on DH's vacation time.

MickeyLumbo 07-30-2006 10:32 AM

ahh, yes. the terrifying first meet. i remember it well. i said hello to a few gathered in the hub. nearly peeeed my pants after receiving GD's patented "glare of death".

waited for an eternity for the seamonkey, (the crazy-cat-lady's escort)... [his date slept in that morning] but ultimately, That Guy arrived... and all around the hub there was a buzz... "There she is! There she is! There she is!" It sounded like the moments before Tinkerbell's flight!

i had an escape plan if i needed it... (i didn't NEED it - but, used it nonetheless because i felt so awkward.) i explained about needing to get back with the group i had come with that day. i split to the safety of Rancho Z and had lunch with my friends. about 5 minutes after i sat down, a MOB arrived, led by a crazed redhead.

These fine folks were part of my memorable first meet: HBTF, Mamabot, MBC, Nirvanaman, Monorail Man and Monorail Mama, Blueerica, Tramspotter, Bornieo, Dusty, Smaniac, Lindyhop, KevyBaby, Gus Gus (i've seen bippies, not hey-hey), Zappp, IsM, GD, CP, NA (i've seen bippies and thong covered hey-hey), € ... sorry if i left anyone out... (the death glare messed with my memory);)

i have met most all Padders, Fabbers, LoTTers in person since that first meet and have made many wonderful friends that i love and incredible memories that i cherish.

My newest LoT friend is Sam McBoyfriendstealer. -- who walked into Hearthstone lounge and recognized me and knew my name. coolness.

I am so glad these people are a part of my life!

i encourage anyone that is uncomfortable with their first meet to try their best to accept that feeling as normal, work past it, and "just do it". LoT is an amazing group of really awesome people.

Here's to LoT!

Aww now there you go, warming my cockles!

And you can have your boyfriend back. He's too much man for me. But I appreciate your letting me borrow him.

SacTown Chronic 07-31-2006 12:04 PM

Yeah, I get that a LoT.
