Morrigoon and I were chatting about this last nite -- if you could go back in time to see one artist/group perform, who would it be? Something that would be impossible to see today...

Just thought it was a fun discussion topic :D

My answer was to see Ella Fitzgerald (hey, she's swanky, right??!??).... performing with (as an added bonus) Louis "GOIN TO NEW ORLEANS SQUARE ON THE MARK TWAIN" Armstrong. A night like that would just beg for sipping martinis.

Who would you guys pick to see? The Beatles? Elvis? Carol Channing? (oh wait, she isn't dead yet..... ewwwwww).

We just watched the Disneyland After Dark segment on the Disneyland DVD the other day with the girls and had to explain Louie Armstrong to them. They were NOT impressed....:rolleyes: My husband was really disappointed.

I have always wanted to participate in the Beatles mania. I see the footage of girls passing out and screaming at the concerts or outside the venues and I just don't get it. I've never been that crazy in love with any band or performer. So if I could turn back time, I'd be a crazed Beatles fan.

I started to say "The Beatles" but most of their concerts were impossible to hear, with all the screaming going on. I also would have liked to have seen Led Zeppelin in their prime. My parents saw Elvis plenty of times and I heard all about it but it would have been nice to experience.

No, what I would really like to have experienced is Charlie Parker and Dizzie Gillespie performing in the NYC jazz clubs of the 40's.

That's too bad. I absolutely love seeing that DVD. I always think of it whenever I'm on the Twain.

That's why you go back further and catch the Beatles (or even further and see the Quarry Men) at the Cavern.

I'd love to go back to that little backyard party the Quarry Men played and be there when they allowed Paul into their band. Mmm, those Teddy Boy outfits....;)

Then flash forward a bit and see them at the Cavern, and perhaps in Germany as well.

I'd love to see some real deal 1940's swing. I'd live there for a few months and learn the dances and forget about rock 'n roll for a while. There's something so wonderfully unleashed about swing dancing. (I want to see Swing Kids again)

Don't know if this counts, but I'd go back to 1988 or so and visit raves in England...hell, I'd travel all over time and space to raves before the crackdowns of the mid 90's. I'd visit Frisco warehouses and New York basements and the Midwestern barns. Back when the locales weren't rented, they were broken into....when "hardcore" was just trance spun twice as fast....when everything was homemade, from the fuzzy pants to the light toys to the projections.....when parties were free, without security nor searches, and they went until the cops showed up. :cheers:

Wow is that random! hehehe.... If we're talking about "places to go that no longer exist".... Studio 54 would have rocked my world. Now, the building that housed Studio 54 is a theatre (they performed Cabaret there a few years ago, the last time I was in NYC).

Well, I'd say "music event that doesn't happen anymore." :D Raves were events at random places, not clubs. But Studio 54 definitely counts, I think.

GD and CP bring up very good points about the Beatles early years. While the american concerts don't interest me that much, seeing them perform in the Cavern Club is a whole 'nother story. That would have most definitely been something to see.

Wow, could I count the things I wish I could turn the clock back and make sure I do?? I barely know where to go with that...

Of course, I'd love to see all the classics from instrumental to rock... I'd love to see all the jazz greats... To list them would be too great a task.. hehehe!

Well, if I had to pick one and only one, it would no doubt be crowding into the dank, sweaty Cavern with Ghoulish Delight and Motorboat Cruiser to rock out to the early early Beatles.

Of course, I might leave early to get backstage for a more intimate meeting with the boys.... ;)

I had chances to see them in concert, but never did. :(

Biran Eno was the concert I always regret missing. But going back in time, I'd like to see Edith Piaf in Paris.

I really wish I was a hip teen and saw Jeff Buckley while he was alive... And Nirvana. They never came around to BFE Michigan when I was available or could scrap up enough cash. Thinking of which, I barely remember them coming to MI.

I wish I had gone to a Lollapalooza. One of the good ones.

I went to Lollapalooze in '93. It was one of the last, if not the last, good ones. I'm so happy I saw it.

Woodstock. I totally would have liked to have been at Woodstock. How amazing would that have been?

And, I know this is cheesy but I am gay, I would have loved to have been in the first row at Madonna's Blonde Ambition concert. I know, not as interesting as the Beatles or the Doors, but I wished I had seen it.

A guy friend of mine in HS had tix to see the double bill Guns N Roses/Metallica tour. I wasn't a huge fan but I did appreciate their stuff. However, I was sure this guy would make a move on me if I went, and he was rather unattractive. A friend of mine went instead and he totally hit on her that night. She was infinitely grossed out. Hehe.

But I missed the concert! :(

There are a lot of bands that I have already seen that I love.

The Beatles, sure that is an easy answer. Seeing any great band as they are honing their sound would be incredible.

Then I thought, hmmmm, classical would be cool too. I would have liked to have been at the premier of Carmina Burana.

And of course Pink Floyd. No soundtrack in my life would be complete without a song or two from Pink Floyd.

What I would really like to have witnessed is the early days of rap. Back when the foundations of rap were still battling in the streets with their words. This would have been really cool.

I still want to see The Beastie Boys. I would take a concert of theirs from each of their albums. Just to be able to see their energy on stage. Woo hoo!

I think it would be cool to go back in time to see Live Aid. Mullets mullets mullets!

The Hollywood of the 20's/30's when stars were stars and the only whores on Hollywood and Vine were starlets willing to "convince" directors to give them their big break.
