Lacenic and Old Arse - August 11th, 8:00 pm
Our own Commodore Swank is tooting his horn in a production of Arsenic and Old Lace at the Glendale Centre Theatre and we're not going to miss it!
So, a few of us are going on Friday, August 11th at 8:00 pm and if anyone would like to join us, you are more than welcome. We will venture out afterwards to the local watering hole as well. Buy your tickets in advanced and mention you are friends of Jim Barkley and I think you'll get a discount. It is free-for-all seating, so all you need is a ticket and to show up before the show to sit with the rest of us. More information is here. |
'Aresenic and Old Lace' starring the Commodore! Yeehaw!
Y'all should go. :) |
Yay I am gonna be there to see my dear roomie dig the Panama Canal. Schewwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeettttaahhh!
|
We'll do our best to make it! We saw the Commodore as teh evil in "Sound of Music," so it'll be nice to watch him be teh crazy this time.
|
Do we need tix in advance?

BULLY!
Get there early and have dinner or a pre-show cocktail at Damon's, the incredibly tiki-fied steakhouse/bar directly behind the theatre. After the show we'll all pile over to Jax, a swanky (live - hellooo MBC) jazz bar restaurant a few doors down from Damon's. One (free) parking space equals triple entertainment value! I'm so looking forward to this! |
Sounds good - nay, great! - to me.

Selling out concerns me, tho. How do we get advance tix?

Gah, we're packing up our server room that weekend. :(
Late nights at work + early mornings at work = no fun for BTD that weekend. |

The show just gets tighter the more we do it, tonight we actually shaved about 10 minutes off it! By the time you guys come, we may dispense with pauses for laughs altogether. not bloody likely So, NA, part of the evening's entertainment is your story of the connection you apparently have with the real life version of the Aunties Brewster, the cast would like to hear it as well. Make up something good! |
It's a pretty dark and humerous story as it is.
|
We are going to do our best to join in on this swanky event. Matthew just has to finagle the evening off at his short-staffed store and we are a go! :)
And the jazz club seems like a particularly swanky addition to the evening. |

Oh, Commodore. Are you going to pic up Chris from the Metro stop? Maybe we should talk. ;)
|
^ Yes'm.
|
So, what's-de-what about meeting beforehand? The seats are general admission so we should rally up. Are we dining? Or no?
|
Well, the earliest we'll be rolling out of The OC (hi Brad!) will be 4:30. So there's no chance in hell we'll be able to meet up for grub. Hopefully we'll make it in time for decent seats (if not, try to save 4 seats for us, MBC and Matthew).

:D Make sure you guys take pics. I wanna see. :) |
Y'all had better tell me how it was.
LSPE, I'm counting on you! I made one cranky Rooney.. and adore that show! Wish I lived closer Commadore. I'd be there in a heartbeat! |

We seem to have a higher percentage of backstage eccentricity than any show I've ever done. Officer "Looney" being one of the oddest fellows I've ever met. So, what's the count? Should I make reservations at Damon's for dinner? I'd say 6:15ish, or do people just want to catch a pre-show cocktail in Tiki :tiki: Swankiness? You really must make a point of at least seeing the interior of this place. It's a good idea to head into the theatre around 7:30 to claim seats (and of course seats can be held for those of you still on the road) but don't be there after curtain! You'll miss my big opening number! After the show, of course, is Jax, the jazz club behind the theatre. They also have a full kitchen that stays open past midnight. So, options are, dinner and/or cocktails in Tiki Swankville Damon's before the show, and dinner and/or cocktails and/or appetizers/dessert/whatever at Jax after the show. By my count we are Chernajoe, Lindyhop, Lisafraid, Eurochris (we should coordinate), Heidieyorick, Tom (just Tom), Paljen, Gregdelight, Ericcruiser, and Chickenmatt. That's 11 including me. Innersteve? Izaap? Kevkev? Suegus? I've checked the box office for tonight, and there should be seats for anyone who still hasn't made up their minds. Self-consciousness and flubbed lines are all but guaranteed! Oh, and for extra bonus points, try to spot the two hidden Mickeys! Bwahahahaha! |
So, um, where are the reports and the gushing and the congratulations and the juicy gossip for those of us who, alas, didn't make it to this?
|
We took a vow never to speak of that evening again.
|
It was Bully.

CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

![]() We had a blast. It was so worth the trip. Just bully! Plenty of sillyness on stage. Not only was our own Gn2 hilarious but the rest of the cast was wonderful as well. The costumes and set pieces were perfect. I've never seen the show/movie before so it was all brand new to me and I loved it. Both before and afterwards we had the extremely pleasant company of the usual suspects. Everyone had some swanky drapes to sport but I wasn't in a photographic mood. The above pic of the President was all I could manage. From Commodore to Nazi to President of the US...he better play God next. |
Agreed. It was a wonderfully entertaining performance by both Jim and the rest of the cast. Also, being one of the other "arsenic virgins" in attendance, I really enjoyed the story itself. And Jim looked so much like Teddy that it was downright eerie. He really was amazing.
The pre and post show activities were most swanky as well and the company of such dear friends made it a damn near perfect evening. Of course, one of the added bonuses of the evening for us was getting to finally meet Munchkin, the most adorabe rabbit I believe I've ever seen. I hope we can do something like this again in the near future. It really was a blast. |
I wanted to thank you guys so much for coming to see my show. I was, in fact, more nervous than on opening night. We have one more week, and then Teddy retires to Panama for good. Or at least until I get cast in another production of Arsenic. ;)
It's a rare and wonderful thing for an actor to find a role that suits him so well, I only hope I can pull off the same trick in my next show. CP, that picture is weird, is that after my mustache came off? Presidential pardons all around! |

I did take some pictures, but I haven't had time to download them at all. I still have SF pics to download and post starring Bob and Inka. Hopefully one day this week when things calm down - if they ever do.
