Mel Gibson Arrested for DUI
It's never funny when anyone drives drunk and endangers innocent people, but I'm laughing anyway...
|
Well that's not very Christian of him!
|
|
Yo, that picture makes Mel look crazy, y'all...
:D |
|
Maybe we'll spot Mel at an AA meeting.
OK, that was wrong on many accounts. |

Spoiler:
 WTF? Has he signed on to play Sadaam somewhere? source |
Umm, that arrest card says Bush, Osorge W.
Who's that? |
Speaking of scary pictures, this seems like a good time to resurrect this one of Nick Nolte from his run-in:

Dude... I've got that shirt
|
According to a new article, Mel also made some anti-semitic comments.

I read that....perhaps GD is right and he IS getting ready to play Osama.
|
Apparently he issued an apology today.

You know there are some things, like, oh, "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world," for which, "Gosh, I'm sorry, I was drunk," doesn't cut it.

Ralphie and I were talking about this this morning. Alcohol loosens your inhibitions. Lots of times, it makes you say things unrestrained. It makes me feel that Gibson truly believes the crap he spewed. |
Yeah, and I might not have believed that tabloid link, except that Mel sort of admitted to his statements in his apology ... that, yeah, does not cut it for this jewboy over here.
Heheh, I still like him in Signs and Road Warrior, but maybe I will finally sit down and watch Passion of the Christ to fuel my furor. |
I was one who never bought into any antisemitic motivations behind his Passion of the Christ. I am rethinking that position.

I am, though, kind of puzzled at the claims by some that this should end his career.
If you can rape a minor, escape to Europe pending trial, and still be hailed as a genius in exile then I don't see that holding anti-semitic beliefs (and apparently having done nothing much to act on them) should be an artistic disqualifier. I also see a lot of people saing in vino veritas which can certainly be true but I also have seen a lot of drunk people who say things they obviously don't believe to be true and are just belligerently trying to piss people off. I have no idea if that is the case, but perhaps when he gets drunk he just starts channeling his father, my to his eternal embarrassment. In the end, so long as he isn't actively trying to do harm to Jews then I don't really care if he is anti-semitic in thought (though I may not want to be friends with him, it doesn't otherwise affect me) and I am still looking forward to Apocolypto. Besides, his rampant homophobia and mysogyny have long been part of the public record and if that isn't a disqualification then I don't see why this would be. I'm also surprised at the number of people that seem to think that "sugar tits" is some particularly vulgar term thought up by Gibson. It has a long and illustrious history. |
My disgust at Mel has more to do with PotC than his drunken tirades. I saw the movie and did experience the anti-Jewishness that some have claimed (whether it's overt or not is a different discussion). I don't imagine that this episode will end his career or that he will be forced into exile a la Polanski (not that that's a fair comparison anyway). I just think it's funny when an a**hole like Gibson gets a little public humiliation.
|
note: I just attacked Mel for PotC. Please note that I was referring to Passion and not Pirates. Thank you.

I stopped liking Mel Gibson (after years of seeing every movie he made) when I read about his father's whack religion and Mel's apparent belief as well. Looks like he really does take after daddy- too bad. What an ass.

I really lost my taste for his films after 'Braveheart'. That prince was a horrible homophobic cartoon character. Then the king killing his lover for a laugh response from the audience was really really tasteless. |
ABC pulls the plug on Gibson's Holocaust mini-series. Three cheers for the Mouse.

They also pulled the plug on Fred Phelps' mini-series about Matthew Shepard.
 Talk about your bad pairings... I mean, everyone in Hollywood knew about Gibson's anti-Semitic doings. Who greenlit that project? |
Eisner.
|
What an eejit. I saw part of his interview with Playboy. It's amazing- that's what comes out of his mouth when he's straight and sober and actually trying to make sense. Ugh. I knew there was a reason I wasn't thrilled with him.
|
They have pics posted of him at some site- MSN, I think- only I'm too disgusted with him to even bother with a link. He just looks wasted and sad and pathetic and mid-life-crisisy. (The pics were taken that night, whilst he was partying). All that money and opportunity- what a ****ing waste.
|
At least Moonshadows, where he was partying, is a great joint.

It does sort of look like her hand is way too stressed...maybe his hands had been groping?
And yes, how sad. Walking around at a club and he is carrying a bottle??? zapppop, I love your bumper sticker. I was listening to the news yesterday morning and the report sounds like an episode of Southpark. I kept imagining him drawn like he'd be on the show... |
The San Francisco Chronicle's Don Assmussen has the real story...
|
Heh heh....Good one, Andrew!:snap:
|
And now you, too, can experience the rant.
|
So it is the end of a career for Gibson to say those things but simply humorous to set your phone to spew anti-semitic comments whenever you get a call?
Methinks someone didn't think it through if they actually install the ringtone. |
Good article regarding Mel and hate speech.

Good intentions in pulling that quote, GC, but using Ann Coulter kind of defeats the purpose: you expect that kind of insane comment from her.
I think the more relevant point is this: "When this form of verbal abuse becomes part and parcel of the everyday parlance between people, we have created a society characterized by its zero-tolerance of inclusion and diversity, where name-calling becomes an accepted norm." When does a racial or sexist slur used as a joke become not a joke? Is it only when the target takes offense? |
