Little Miss Sunshine

So... go see it. It's possibly not at a theater near you yet, but go see it.

It side-steps sap but completely osmoses itself into you. It's collection of people who, while they're completely flawed, are endearing enough to carry you through the movie. It's a family movie, a buddy flick, a road trip, a black comedy, a pro-"real"-people collection of complete delights. And if that's not enough, there's a stage performance at the end that made us laugh until we could not breathe.

Why are you still sitting here? What are you waiting for!?

Gemini Cricket 08-01-2006 03:33 PM

I'm going to see this flick. It looks funny. Can't wait.
:)
That girl is so cute!

Well it is currently only in 7 theaters and so most people probably need their own VW bus road trip to see it. I think it is supposed to begin rapid expansion weekend after next.

I've heard nothing but good things and it is high on my list.

Ditto.

I'll add my full endorsement as well.

As you may guess I'm not one who easily laughs out loud (I'm easily amused but I'm not a big laugher at movies) but twice this one had me doing it.

I can't guarantee you'll find it hilarious, but if you simply enjoy well crafted films you should get out and see it.

The directors (Jonathan Dayton and Valeris Faris) come from music videos, which is a mixed bag (how many great directors does it take to compensate for Bret Rattner and McG?) but this is as auspicious a start as Bottle Rocket was for Wes Anderson.

Also, the final payoff in Little Miss Sunshine is perfect on the crass surface level as well as the meaninful second layer. Perfection.

I finally saw this tonight. Flipping hillarious, amazing film that has made it onto the short list of must buy.

I loved the final scene. I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I cried.

Go see this movie!

If it kept my attention it will keep yours

Judoguy 09-03-2006 06:48 PM

Just got back from seeing it. Great stuff.

JWBear 09-05-2006 09:29 AM

I also highly recomend it. F-ing hilarious!

CrazyLegs 09-06-2006 01:40 AM

I want to see that movie :)

Cadaverous Pallor 12-03-2006 10:49 PM

Three months later, we have finally seen it. :) We now have a second-run one-dollar theater at the mall and we checked it out tonight. Awesome film! Steve Carell is incredible. In fact everyone in this is incredible. Yay!

Ghoulish Delight 12-04-2006 09:37 AM

OMG that was good. Some serious cringe-worthy, painful to watch scenes, but in an entirely good way.

Totally. I mean, I had been vaguely pondering what the routine might be, and knew it was going to be something out of left field since it was pointedly held in complete secrecy through the entire film, but wow. Perfection indeed.

Finally saw it and loved it, I love how the film builds to the final scene, hopes dreams, flaws, and acceptance.

I love this movie. Watched it tonight. Loved it.
This film had some really great shot compostions.
The payoff was great.
I love movies with dancing.
:)
Two thumbs up.

I saw this in the theaters a couple of months ago. I really really wanted to love it. I found it entertaining. The performances were terrific, but I found the plot to be a little predictable. I don't want to come off all hate-y, because I don't regret seeing it, I just wonder what I missed...

innerSpaceman 12-25-2006 09:03 PM

You didn't miss anything. It was just a cute movie with good performances based on a most common and predictable plot. It was simply a shining example of that kind of movie. Most movies of its ilk plainly suck. And this one had appeal and laughs and enjoyable characters and fun.

But I won't put it up there with the Greats of Cinema.

At Susan's family (which we just returned from), we do a gift exchange. Everyone participating brings a gift ($20 seems to be the target value range). We draw numbers and chose gifts one at a time. When your number comes up, you can choose a new gift or steal from someone else. Items can only be stolen twice.

I had #6 and Susan had #7. Someone earlier got the movie. I stole it, Susan stole if from me, and it was ours!

We look forward to watching it this week!
