GC's California Visit - 9/3 to 9/10
Hello,
After attending wedding shenanigans in San Francisco from Aug 31-Sept 2, I will be in Southern California from the 3rd of Sept to the 10th. Is anyone interested in a Lot meet during that time? I plan to spend numerous days at the park and am flexible. There are a couple of days where I will be meeting with friends from college and from the olden days when I used to work in Burbank. But outside of that, my schedule's up in the air like a hooker's legs on payday. Let me know. Sincerely ready for a vacation, Brad :) |
Dadgummit! You don't give a person much time to plan, do you?
Oh well, if wishes were horses... blah blah blah I've been trying to get out again in early October, but I'm not even sure that's going to work out. |
No Frodo, no deal.
|
I vote for the first Saturday you're in town.
(Saturday will still have later hours than Sunday, even when summer hours have - bah - just ended right about then, huh?) |

|
The one weekend we're not going to be in SF.... darn!
|
Quote:
Besides...I'm really boring in person. :D Quote:
Which reminds me, we need to find a sitter for Frodo. Quote:

|
Who are you and why do we care that you are coming into town?
Oh wait. Bring a Sharky and we'll be good. :p I can meet any day. I will even sit in rush-hour traffic for you ;) |
:( I already have stuff going on that weekend. http://www.bakersfieldbrews.com/ on the 9th and sleeping on my b-day.
|
We could do something else on another night as well. Is their life beyond Disneyland?
There may be a Cemetery screening that evening as well. I won't know until next week, thouogh. |
Quote:
Can I interest you in PHantom of the Opera at the Stanford Theatre on 9/1 and a dinner at Jing Jing (a sczchaun/hunan place) around the corner from the theatre. If it does not conflict with wedding duties. Of, if you want to do dinner at my place or in the city somewhere, that can be arranged! I'll PM pertinant phone numbers |

I do want to see a cemetary screening. That would be cool. Quote:
I wish I could hang out with you, Snowflake. Next time, I promise. :) |
Wrong coast.
|
Quote:
What's funny is that I've told several people at work that I'm going to Disneyland and they have been saying stuff like, "The one down south?" and "Ew, I hate Florida" and "Are you going to Epcot, too?" Oy! |
Quote:
But, I do understand! |
Quote:
Do you know of any cool hotels near 555 California Street that you could recommend? I need to find a place for myself and a few wedding party members to stay at. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
What's the price range people are willing to spend, you're very close to Nob Hill and Union Square and there are many hotels in the area, most expensive. If it were you and Ralphie, alone, I'd say stay here with me (I'm on California at the 2000 block) Get back to me and I will see what I can dig up once I know the price range you are looking for. I'm glad you are going to try to move back to Sunny CA, that will make meets more convenient! |
Quote:
|
I will say yes to the 9th (and most likely NM, too). We return from Ecuador on the 5th. Teachers go back the 5th and kids come the 7th (I have to ditch my first day of school). I will be tired from jetlag and my first week of work in 74 days, but I can't say no to seeing GC.
Also, my school is only 5 miles from DL, so if there is a weekday meet, I will try to make that, too. GC is AWESOME!!! |
Hmmm, I would say a Sunday Diz meet could work, following a Saturday night Cemetery screening (depending on what's playing).
I just have to find some way for G.C. to see Remember fireworks one last time before they glow away forever .... so if no Diz on Saturday, I'll make a second visit with him (and whomever else) on a weeknight. Then on other weekngihts, we'll do other things. I want a G.C. fix in the worst way! |
Darn! It looks like the parks close early on weekdays, starting after Labor Day. Tue-Thur: DL 8pm, DCA 6pm* Does that mean no fireworks? I do agree GC needs to experience a cemetery screening (depending on what's playing).
*Subject to change without notice. |
Quote:
Will you have a car? |
If the cemetery screening pans out, maybe we'll do Diz fireworks on Friday.
|
He'll be in LB most of the time at Hotel Swank.
|
I think GC needs to ride the mechanical bull at Saddle Ranch Chop House...
|
Quote:
|
Oooh, hey, GC, any interest in seeing The Little Mermaid at the El Capitan??
(limited engagement September 7 - 14) |
Quote:
:) |
Have a great trip, GC. Hmmm....being that you'll be seeing ISM and GD, perhaps trip isn't the best choice of words.....
|
Can we put some of these GC events on the calendar? That way they are easier to spot.
|
I'd love to try and make whatever. Depends on when I have the munchkin.
|
So? Still need hotel ideas or research in SF?
|
Just, GYI. Cemetery screenings will go until the end of September. Nor word yet on what the film will be that weekend.
|
Quote:
katiesue - I'd love to see you if you can. I don't think we've officially met in person. :) I totally want to see a cemetary screening. I think that would be fun stuff! GD - No licking paws. Check. CM - Riding mechanical bulls. Heck no. iSm - Must see fireworks. Check. Must go to Disneyland to see Haunted Mansion bride before HM gets its Holiday overlay. |
Very cool, the Omni is very nice!
If you have time, Aqua is a very nice place for lunch (fantabulous seafood) and Tadich Grill is fun too, old style, oldest restaurant in town. Both on California Street heading in the direction of the Ferry Bldg. The Slanted Door in the Ferry Building is nice (Vietnamese) and swanky decor and gorgeous views. Boulevard used to be one of my favorite spots, but I've not been since I returned. |

We have our fingers crossed. :) Quote:
Cool! Thanks for the tips, Donna. :) I can't think of anything else but my trip. I'm totally obsessed. :D SF, LA, LB, DL, Universal, cemetary screening... |
You'd better start putting together a calendar, mister. ;) But, remember, this is a vacation and you need to have some down time. I will have to lock you in your room.
|
9/3 - Land at LAX. Meet Ralphie's sister for dinner. Stay at her place that night.
9/4 - Possible trip to Universal to meet CoasterMatt and his lovely lady. Evening at the Hotel Swank. 9/5 - DL 9/6 - ? 9/7 - 'Little Mermaid' with iSm? 9/8 - ? 9/9 - Cemetery screening? 9/10 - LoT Meet at DL. Leave from LAX @ 10:30pm 9/11 - Arrive in Boston. Must meet with my other non-LoT friends somewhere in there. They're being flexible... And there must be multiple trips to the park in there, too. Gotta make use of the AP I'm going to purchase. :) |
Ha! the only way to have a non-exhausting vacation is to take some time off work .....
.... and stay at home. Oh, and I need some private heart-to-heart time with G.C. Do I book that with him or with you, Lisa?? |
I caught my typo in time. I has said "I'm going to have to lick you in your room". Scary!
|
Quote:

Quote:
|
I love when NA has typos in the sentence where she claims to find her typos!
Oh, I'm adding something to the calendar: 9/5 - DL 9/6 - ? 9/7 - 'Little Mermaid' with iSm? 9/8 - FIREWORKS ARE ONLY ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS ... IF CEMETERY IS TOMORROW, THIS IS ANOTHER DL NIGHT RIGHT HERE 9/9 - Cemetery screening? 9/10 - LoT Meet at DL. Leave from LAX @ 10:30pm |
Quote:
|
Quote:
:D |
You did THAT in the back of Ralphies car!
|
Quote:
Now. Disneyland says they're not closing HM until the 11th but they were going to close it on the 5th initially. What to believe? Should I go on the 4th just in case? I have got to see iSm's bride girlfriend. |
Hey, we have a calendar! I just learned about it. I put some dates in.
:) |
That's good, because have NO idea what going on. ;)
Here's your house key. Here's your bed. Here's the alarm. See you! ;) |

I didn't know GC was going to Louisiana
|
I think we should party all night and rope drop DL in the morning after the cemetary.
Ya. That sounds like a swell plan. :D This message brought to you by someone with mushrbrain. People with mushrbain are not responsible for seemingly good ideas that are really not. |

Coolness. I will be lurking about. Got tix for Little Mermaid on the 7th already! DL on Sunday is a maybe as is Cemetary screening.
Cool, cool, cool. |
Quote:
CP - Louisiana?! :D I just added the 4th as the day for Universal. I want to see Matt and his lovely lady. :) I can't wait to ride E.T. |
Um... if you want to ride E.T., you have to go to Osaka, Japan or Orlando, Florida.
Our E.T. flew home and now his former spot is occupied by the cursed tomb of "Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride". Mrs. CoasterMatt is a slave girl/ride operator there :D |
I knew that. I was trying to be funny.
:D Which is too bad because there was a decent AA in the queue area. The ET dude with the staff was pretty cool. |
|
OK. Let's review and add more!
Monday - 9/4 - Universal Tuesday - 9/5 - DL Wednesday - 9/6 - ? Thursday - 9/7 - 'Little Mermaid' with iSm @ Night Friday- 9/8 - FIREWORKS @ DL @ NIGHT Saturday - 9/9 - Cemetery screening - 5 pm start Sunday - 9/10 - LoT Meet at DL. How about the aquarium on Wednesday daytime?
Sounds fun. :) |
Quote:
All the Disneyland stuff sounds great. Cemetary sounds great. Maybe (but probably not) Little Mermaid at the El Cap. No way to get there in time :( |
Yep, Little Mermaid is a bit difficult - - but, so far, it's me and Borneo and Gemini Cricket at the special 6:30 panel discussion show. Play hookey from work and join us, y'all.
|
I can get discount Aquarium of the Pacific tix from work, lemme know :)
|
I'm starting to pack for my trip.
How hot is it? Is it cold at night? Do I need a sweatshirt or jacket for DL at night? Answers I asks ya for. :) :D |
It's beautiful. low 80's during the day (possibly a bit warmer in Anaheim). No jackets at night. Pfffftt.
We will woo you with the weather. The temperature I reported is from the beach, where boys will be shirtless until late October. tempationtemptationtemptationtemptationtemptation |
Oooh, ooh. Add Tom and I for that Mermaid screening!

Somewhere on the agenda, I think we should go dancing. I want to go to a club and dance.
:) |
Well, I know you have a wedding, but I am still very bummed we can't even meet for coffee in SF. No guilt though! Next time, dinner and a movie in the Castro or dinner and a movie at Chateau Snowflake. I hope!
Have a wonderful trip, the weather here is absolutely perfect! Cool and foggy in the mornings, warming up for the afternoon and breezy and cool at night. Absolutely frickin perfect. :snap: |

|
Pictures.
My camera! Thanks, wenchybeth! :) |
Soon, you will be in lovely Long Beach with a fat Charles in your lap (whether you want him there or not). I can't wait to see you!
|
Omg, GC! That guy on the left in your avatar looks like my dad!
|
Safe Journey GC!!!
|
In SF. Having a fab time so far. I miss CA sooo much!
Drinking a mojito... Had a massage today. Wedding shenanigans in progress... So very happy for my friend Jules! :) |
GC, it sounds like you are having a great time.
I could use a massage right about now.... |
So, GC was so excited to go to the park this morning, he got up a dawn and headed out. (I was working.) He bought his AP and now has full access to the Park. I'm going to join him a bit later - at least for a little while.
|
It looks like we'll be missing the cemetery screening, but if he does make it to the park on Sunday, we'll definitely be there.
|
will do my very best to see you, GC. work load is IntEnsE.
|
Had a wonderful day at the park.
-Loved POTC. Didn't really care for the Davey Jones projection and his spiel at the end, but the rest was fine. -The HM bride was meh for me. Haaate her voice. Love the portraits in the attic. The ghost face in the seance room is eerie. -Monsters Inc is 100% better than Pooh. Love it. -The Jack Sparrow face character I saw today was really funny. -The pirates show is pretty funny too. One pirate sang 'So This is Love' to a treasure chest. Very funny. -Best of all... NA and I got to pilot the Mark Twain. I have an official certificate commemorating the experience. I have something to add to my professional resume now. Mark Twain Captain. :) I'm going to be there many times this week... hopefully. Definitely on Sunday. Universal was fun too. Coaster Matt rocks. I'll post more about that later. Having a great time. Haven't heard back from Ralphie yet. He should be back by now.... Probably partying after getting back. :D |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Okay, that was grim. :D |
Hey, I got one of those certificates on my birthday! Soooo cool.
BTW, for the Little Mermaid screening on Thursday. I'll be there about 5-530 ish for Ice Cream if anyone wants to join me, Gwyren and his GF. :) |
Gemini Cricket Rocks... hopefully Rose and I will be able to join the fun on Sunday :D

Now, it really didn't make sense and he didn't get it nor did he like it. Isn't it quite the small space? And you really have to work! ;) I am sorry that I am missing all of the fun. So much going on here. My Chickie may go up tomorrow night after Six Flags....must go and check the closing time.... Missing you, GC! Glad to hear you are having the blastiest blast! |
Well...as a follow up to the Mark Twain post...
While taking my son to school we were discussing his schools' upcoming excursion to Disneyland. He is excited as this is a new school and basically all new students; and, he has made a lot of new friends, two that will be going. So, I said 'Oh, wouldn't that be cool if the three of you were able to steer the Mark Twain like you did??' His reply. 'Ah, no. Let's save that experience for someone who still believes in the magic. Someone who would really believe they are steering.' I laughed. {while he is a curmudgeon, I reckoned what he said to your experience, GC, and well, YOU surely did fit the bill, believing in the magic}. I asked if he remembered meeting you in Monterey and he said yes. I told him you had done just that very same thing yesterday. And, I said, Lisa, the redhead we've met, she did it, too. Now, I think telling him that really made him think. I hope so. I think at that age kids try to be so grown up. I think it may have to do with being conned about the tooth fairy, etc. But, for him to hear that you guys did it, I think it really made him think. He didn't say anything but I was glad to enlighten him that way. I think he thinks we have him do things because kids would like it. No. I have him do things because they are fun. :D Okay...enough of that... |
My entire weekend was thrown into a loop.
So, is there a meet tomorrow night for fireworks? Is there still a meet on Sunday? |
Hey GC! Sounds like a great time! I hope you get to do all you want to do, and enjoy every minute!
~Bob |

It is a special treat indeed. took MommaLumbo up a few months back... geesh the stairs are steep!.... anyway, i insisted that she "pilot", but i had to assist her with whistle and bell (LOL she could not reach)... she had fun... until, just before Hungry Bear I scared her by saying with an excited tone to "turn HARD right - DON'T hit the restaurant and OH, watch out for those rocks!!" she said, "here, you'd better drive." :D |
MickeyLumbo~ That's funny! {thanks for the correct term, too}. My husband was doing that to the Boy but I could see on his face being torn 'Is Dad kidding? Am I really steering???? ' I think he was worried and he really kept up at it and was quite serious.
Yes, those stairs are steep. And, not a lot of room up there. But the view! And that feeling!!:snap: :snap: |
OK, today's the Day! G.C.'s Disneyland Meet! His last day in California .... (heheheh, for now).
Noon o'clock at the Hub. Twoish o'thirty in the Grand Cal Lobby. Fun, friends, rides, food, happy hour, happy people, the works. (But Brad has to catch a plane in the evening, so come early, come often!) |
Hope you folks have a great time! Sorry I can't be there.
Have a safe journy back GC! Hope you're trip was a blast! |
Quote:
I cruised by around noon, but I must have been too early, didn't recognize anyone. Sorry I couldn't stay, had 3 little ones in tow. Hope you have a great day! |
I admit to being envious. How odd that I would feel that way when the original thought of meeting some (most? all?) of you in June was completely HORRIFYING! :)

I really wish I could have come - this sounded like fun! But I have out of town guests at my house. :: sigh :: next time! You are coming back, right?
|
Hahaha, that had to be our most Hardly-Any-Disneyland Disneyland Meet ever.
And, yeah, it looks like a lock - for a while at least - the Jazz Kitchen is the new Grand Cal. And, wow, 7 farewellagains foregone for the sake of one highly emotional, teary farewell. It was a swell time. Thanks Gemini Cricket. Thanks for visiting. |
I had such a great weekend between the movie and the meet. So nice to see/meet everyone. I had a really teriffic time.
GC you are just as wonderful in person as you seem from your posts. I'm so glad I got to meet you. Wish I could have stayed longer. Oh well there's always next time. |
So glad we made this. Had a wonderful time. :)
|
GC just called. He didn't sleep one iota on his flight but got home and took a 5 hour nap before picking up dear Frodo. THen they took another 3 hour nap together. Frodo was a bit jealous when he smelled other dogs and cats on his long lost daddy. ;)
Unfortunantely, GC's computer is not now booting up. It was unplugged the entire time he was gone and, I suspect, the back up power has been depleated - but I'm no Mac genius. I told him to leave it plugged in but off for a little while. Anyone have any suggestions before he goes through a new install of OS Tiger? As soon as he gets his computer running again, he'll be back on line with a full report. |
Good times! Good times! Miss you already GC ;;)
|
I was lucky enough to see him at the Cemetary Screening and D-Land the following day. Nice to meet you!

Had a great time. Loved loved my vacation. It was great seeing everyone. I'll post more tonight... B :) |

What a great vacation I had. It was wonderful.
I spent three days in SF and helped coordinate my friend Julie’s wedding. It was lots of fun. The Carnelian Room is where the ceremony and reception took place. It’s on the 52 floor of a tall bldg in SF with a 360 view of the city. From there we could see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge and the whole city. It was beautiful. The reception took place at sunset and we got to see the changing view and the city at night. Lots of lights. It was a great time. The bride was very happy. Off to LA from there. My first stop was to see Ralphie’s sister and her husband. We had a great time eating at their favorite Mexican restaurant and dessert place. I wish I could remember the names… Next was Coaster Matt day at Universal. I had a great time at Universal. I hadn’t been there since Jurassic Park opened and was thrilled to see the changes. ET was gone but a pretty cool coaster was in its place. The Mummy was good but a little too short for me. One of the AAs was really awesome. I also enjoyed the mummy hands coming down from the ceiling… My favorite attraction was T2. Loved the cinemascope 3D. Nice touch. Everything else was fun. Back to the Future is a little dated and needs to be replaced imho. I enjoyed talking with Coaster Matt after his shift was over. We talked about life and coasters. It was cool. He also clued me in to an uncrowded section of the park that the public can get to but only if they are observant. We met Mrs. Coaster Matt for only a few seconds. She was busy with line management at the Mummy coaster. After some shopping at CityWalk, I bid Matt a farewell and headed off to Hotel Swank. Chris and Lisa were, of course, awesome hosts. I also got reintroduced to the kitties. My favorite is Charlie. He and I bonded. Scoundrel wanted to eat my feet, Jack wanted me to pay attention to him and not Charlie, Buster was the phantom cat appearing only once or twice and Dexter loves Lisa most so he wanted little to do with me or anyone else. My cat allergies disappeared while I was there thanks to Flonase, Clartin D 24 and Advair. Drugged up I was… I had great fun at Disneyland. Four days worth of it. It was a blast. Some of the highlights: - Getting to pilot the Mark Twain and getting a certificate to boot. - Great eats at the Jazz Kitchen. I got served by some cuties there. No pun intended… - Riding Space Mountain with innerSpaceman’s rainbow glasses. Very cool. - Shopping shopping shopping. I bought a cool patriotic Donald figurine on Main Street and a cool pirates shirt that says ‘The beatings will continue until morale improves.’ Love that shirt. - I rode rides I have never been on before: Astro-Orbiter, Mullholland Madness and the Sun Wheel. (I will never ride the Sun Wheel again. The rocking cars freaked me out.) - I also rode Monsters Inc (loved it) and Pirates (I like Johnny) and the Haunted Mansion (hate the bride’s voice, love the rest of the changes). The meet was wonderful and got to see a mess of LoTters and MiceChatters. It was nice getting to put faces to the names. Katiesue and SubLaGoon to name a couple… I had so much fun. I also helped Lisa walk doggies. Lisa and I also went to the Long Beach Aquarium and I got Lorikeet poop on my brand new shoes. We also watched a sloth like animal bite one of the husbandry people. We also saw sea snakes, stingrays and leafy sea dragons just to name a few… The Little Mermaid was cool. Watching Alan Menken play the piano was memorable. Another highlight was watching ‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’ with Lisa and Chris while feasting on L&L Drive Inn food. That was awesome. Thank you to Katiesue, Debra, SubLaGoon, SzcerbiakManiac, NirvanaMan, Babette, BarTopDancer and Dolores, Not Afraid, Euromeinke, innerSpaceman, zapppop, Gn2Dlnd, GD, CP, Dustysage, Fishbulb, Grumpy4, Witches of Morva, LSPE, Tom, CoasterMatt and Mrs. CoasterMatt, AlexStroup, Fred MacMurray, Roy Disney, Donald Duck and Hercules and anyone I forgot for making my trip memorable. I had the best time ever and as you could probably tell, I had a hard time leaving y’all. There are pictures but those may take me awhile. I am typing on my new laptop and that’s about the only thing I know how to do on it at the moment. I hope to post pics someday… I had the bestest bestest time. I’m sure I missed out on some primo stuff, but I’ll add it as my memory allows. |
It was wonderful seeing you in our neck of the woods, GC :)
|
You must've done some Charles spoiling while you were here, because he's been sort of a needy PITA lately. Damn he cute, so it's ok.....mostly.
|
I'm a dork. I forgot Bornieo. How do you forget someone who is that tall? Sorry, man. :)
|
That was a great re-cap and it was very cool to meet you (and several others too)!
The rocking Sun Wheel thing is funny. I got to go on the Wonder Wheel in Coney Island once. It has the swinging cars and has the extra advantage of being OLD, RICKETY, and DECREPIT (like myself). That was the scariest ride I have ever been on. Excluding my first marriage. |
My bucket on the Sun Wheel was the only one rocking like an out of control pendulum. It was embarassing. :D At a couple of points, the sides of my bucket were parallel with the ground. It was frightening to see straight to the ground through the side windows. AND there are no seatbelts nor rails to hold on to. I clung to the metal grating like a cat.
I also must mention that I'm officially old. California Screamin' made me nauseous... |
Sorry I missed the Sunday meet. I had a family thing come up.

CoasterMatt's thread reminded me of something I forgot to mention. When I was at Universal, I wanted to do everything I could. So I went into the Van Helsing Castle. The problem was was that I thought it was a stage show with a very elaborate queue. So when monsters were jumping out at me, I thought, 'Huh, they had a budget for their queue. Neat.' So I just shrugged the monsters off. 'Ooh, good one, buddy.' 'Nice. Ya got me.' 'Ha ha.' At one point, the CM pointed me towards a set of stairs that looked like risers to a seating area. So I'm all, 'Great. Here's the auditorium.' But there was no auditorium. I kept going and going. Then a huge Van Helsing werewolf jumped out at me and then I realized I was now back outside in the sun. There was no show. It was a haunted house. I hadn't known that going in. I was expecting a show like the 'Conan' or 'Frankenstein' shows from long ago. No dice.
I spoke to a CM after and said, 'Oh, it's a haunted house. Not a show.' He replied, 'Yeah, we get that a lot.' :D One of the Universal leads that Matt introduced me to asked me if I actually read the map I was given. I said, 'No.' But he too said that that was a complaint he got from time to time. |
That VH haunted house scared the $#!+ out of me. I gripped NM's arm the whole time and walked with my eyes closed.
|
I know this is a couple of weeks late (been VERY busy theses past few days), but it was a real suprise to see you fine LoT'ers at the Grand Cal. I wasn't planning on attending the meet, but it seems the meet had a way of finding me... working, that is! GC, it was good seeing you. Even if it was "bearly"!:D Yep, When you have a lot of free time in the shop, you play with puppets. Or is that feel like a puppet?... Hmmmm... BTW, GC, the bear enjoyed the hug. Me, on the other hand, wanted the ladies to give the bear a hug.
Lisa, I was very impressed that you remembered me. How many years has it been since the last time I saw you, yet you were able to pick me out at a distance and knew who I was in my cm costume! Wish I had that ability. Glad to have had the chance to almost partake in the CG festivities. Thanks for dropping by and saying, "Look who it is!!" ;) |
