Yes, I Am the Biggest Nerd on the Planet. Thank You For Asking. I Am... Unashamed.

There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling.
(Yes. I know. I quoted. It hurt me as much as it hurts you.) |
Ah yes, I remember when the set was first released. There was outrage among collectors. Thus the free replacement.

I hate to admit it... but I sent in my money order last week (Plus, I picked up Seasons 7 & 8 at Costco this week for $20.99 each). Color me nerdy.

Damn, I'm need to get my replacement. *$&@(! I guess I"m not a nerd. ;)
|
If I had these, I'd have wanted the regular packaging, too. I have seen this set and Homer's head is flimsy. It doesn't stack neatly on the shelf. It doesn't even stand up.
The next season was in Marge's head. Same problems with just one more to add to the list. Her hair was not in proportion with her head. Did they offer a replacement with that one, too? I'm not a fan of extravagant DVD packaging. I mentioned this to my brother recently, and brought up the Necronomicon version of Evil Dead. He replied that "everyone" laughed at that and then just threw it away. But why would people do that? It costs more because of the packaging, and then you just dump it? That's very wasteful. I love love love the slim DVD cases. OK, that's not true. I prefer the standard cases, but for stuff in box sets, I like that they take up less space. I don't care that all the Stargates are in regular cases except for the most recent one. The proportion would be off on a shelf, but that's fine by me. I hate that Enterprise season 2 tried to bite my foot when I stepped on it by mistake. I love, however, that the owner of Enterprise season 2 didn't get angry with my foot for taking a bite out of the packaging. (Talk about ridiculous packaging!) Where do I register my complaints about DVD menus? ;) |
Quote:
I insert the DVD and it should go directly to the menu. A silent menu that doesn't show clips, play songs or repeat annoyingly. And I hate the fascist DVDs that don't let you skip the FBI warnings or the studio logos. Bastardos... ![]() |
Ya know, I guess someone thought it would be a cool thing to have those heads but yes, they are flimsy and people who collect dvds most often keep them together on a shelf and that just doesn't work.
I don't collect them but my son does and I think the current one was Maggies head? {has this already been said?} What was nice is they had the standard box set availble {I gather this from the peaceful ride home from Best Buy....}. How about {speaking of packaging} 'V for Vendetta'. Anyone buy this one? I think there were at least 3 types of packaging for this one. We managed to get one with the little mask. Cool. I haven't seen the movie. I have come to think it is too scary for me and that those masks scare me... |
The thing with the heads is that they open weird and they want to constantly close on their own while you're trying to remove discs. It's just very clumsy packaging. The sight of the head wowed the execs without them thinking about the practicality of it.
'V' is not scary at all. His character is pretty amazing. You should watch it. It has a cool message. It was funny, I totally felt like the Comic Book Guy as I made a special trip to the mailbox with my letter in hand. Worst. DVD. Packaging. Ever! :D |
Are you sure it isn't scary? My son is a big movie person {I won't call him nerd in case he reads this...must...protect....his self confidence...}.
Oh yeah, I did feel one of the heads {homers, I think} and it was pretty darn thin. The kind that also might become brittle with time? Hey, you are into Simpsons, etc....Familiar with Billy West? Met him at the Comic Con and he was a pretty awesome dude. :snap: |
Not scary. It's more Matrix-y than anything else.
He's a big time voice over guy. He rocks. :) I like him, Tony Jay (who just passed away) and Tress MacNeille. Great vocal talents. |
That would be cool then.
Yep, he did a few voices while we were there {we went to see him everyday we went!}. My kids know so much more about all of the voice characters, artists, etc. I am familiar with some of the characters he's done but was more impressed with his attitude. Ya know, back in the day, wasn't it all 'Mel Blanc'? His is the only name I remember.... |
June Foray was also a big name. I think she still does this and that.
:) |
GC, you are not alone, my friend. I too, feel your frustration..
Hello, my name is AllyOfTheDolls, and I am a Simpsons fanatic, er, "nerd". :) I was so stoked when the Simpsons Season 8 was released last week that I rushed out after work & purchased it (along with both seasons of Laguna Beach, but that's another obsession & another Thread!) I noticed the two different packaging options, and I was so tempted to purchase the little plastic Maggie head, since it was so cute! However, I am the kind of person who likes everything to match & flow, and my DVD's are no exception (I am, afterall, the obsessive-compulsive clean freak girl who organizes her DVD collection alphabetically, by genre, & used to dust them individually when they were in a DVD rack. I also organize my wardrobe by season, color & fabric, peeps.) However, I opted for the regular boxed packaging. Now, all of my Simpson seasons flow except season 6, which is my Homer head DVD! I think it's an adorable idea, but it doesn't..match! So, GD, you aren't alone! My brother also sent for the regular boxed packaging since his Homer head didn't match the rest of his Seasons! :) P.S.~ I totally dig your Simpsons font!! :snap: |
I never did get around to sending for the normal package for Season 6. Is that offer still available? After the outrage over that it seems that they have wisely made both versions available for seasons 7 and 8. Although, it did take a fair amount of searching to find the normal box when I went to pick up my Season 8 last week. The Maggie heads were very prominently displayed in several locations, but the normal box was kinda hidden in one spot. I'm not sure if this was an attempt at pushing the crappy box or due to the fact that the other was selling better and therefore in shorter supply. I'm just glad I finally found it, because I totally would have driven to the next town to get the box I wanted.

or more importantly, Natasha Darlink! Awww - and suddenly I'm reminded of a night of June Foray and Bill Scott a week before his death...snif.... We may have Disney roots in this Community, but Jay Ward was my main man. |
My box came today.
:D I rock. My Simpsons DVDs all look uniform again on my shelf. :) ![]() |

I think this puts me in the running for the title claimed in the thread title. Though maybe it makes me an over literal dick drip. It is a fine line.

FWIW, I admire the research

The replacement box they're shipping to you will look like this:
![]() Basically it's just a slipsleeve for the plastic head. If you want season 6 in a real box (one that holds your discs like the previous releases), you'll have to buy one of the international sets, like this one from Amazon.co.uk. |

I want my DVDs pristine. No trailers. Just the movie and the bonus stuff. Sometimes, I don't even watch the bonus stuff unless I'm really curious. I can't wait for some rebel to come out with a DVD player or program that lets you skip the FBI warning. :) ![]() |
All of that should be illegal. We pay for the DVDs, we shouldn't have to pay to watch commercials or what THEY want us to watch. The movies aren't cheap.
Goes for the theater as well. I rush to get there {yeah, my problem but I do} and then it is SIT for 1-15 minutes. While I am sometimes late I would arrive quietly. I hate people who come in late and it is all about them. And, it sucks to have to buy the international set. |

"Is this seat taken, is this seat taken?" Shut up and get the frick out. You and your girlfriend show up for opening night of "The Departed" five minutes before showtime. You're dumb. The AMC theatres in Boston show commercials, but they show it prior to showtime. Which is okay, I guess. There are usually 15 minutes of previews, but at least I don't have to sit through that Fanta commercial after showtime... |
Exactly! But that scenario is nothing compared to a family coming in and all talking and running about looking for a seat and if they choose to sit by me, walking past me instead of entering the row from the {empty} other side!!!!
And, if they post the movie times correctly here I haven't noticed. I always get stuck watching a bunch of stuff. I never know if the family has tricked me to be on time or what.... |

Fortunately on many of the DVDs you can hit the menu button to pass them by. I just resent having to do that and I resent not having the root menu show up first. If I want to watch the trailers, I will do so, just like selecting the bonus features. |
I like the movie trailers. And I like the whatever pre-show at the theatres. I usually go by myself to the movies a lot so it gives me something to watch while I wait, instead of sitting there like a dork.
|
I take a book (about 70% of the movies I see in theaters, I see alone).
