Tokyo anyone?

I was just looking at our friend Joe's Japan site and the latest TOT pics.

DAMN! (Scroll to the Aug 2006 pics)

I'm not so excited about the ride, I'm more interested in seeing the architecture! Damn that OLC and their money. I'm green.

PLUS, THERE'S A FEZ ELEMENT!

When we were there in March the exteriors were pretty much done. It is an impressive building.

Yes, the ToT will be beautiful ... from the outside. Inside, the same substandard version being installed everywhere ... without the wonderment that made the original a hit.

Have they learned nothing from a) Florida original a huge hit; and b) DCA copy a gigantic failure? Yet, it's the sub-par DCA version going into both Paris and Tokyo.

Bah.

I am determined to head for Japan, with DisneySeas being a prime stop. But with a Nipponese Cirque du Soleil coming to the Disney property in 2008, there's not a chance in hell of me going before then.

CoasterMatt 08-23-2006 09:38 PM

Um... IsM, yes it's true that the DisneySeas ToT uses the same ride system as DCA, but there are substantial enough differences (ie, no stupid cartoony looking "boiler room") to make it a special experience to look forward to.

I'm not a big fan of either existing version of Tower of Terror. Drops are about the stupidest rides around and boring as all hell.

So as long as they're pretty on the outside I'm happy.

Love the statues outside. I like the one holding her own head. Nice.
That building makes DCA's look like a large beige turd. Very cool. Lots of detail.
:)

Nope. We're saving for Italy.

(Maybe someday, though. I hope!)

If you go to Japan before you come to NY, I'm totally kicking your ass.

So it would appear the that Japanese tradition of spending as much or more on wrapping a present as the present itself extends to theme park design.

I'm Freaky for Shiriki !!

Check out http://www.tot1899.com/index.html and click through the tour and the dialogue - They've poured heaps of money and design into the website as well - it gives you a REALLY good overview of the ride - even in Japanese only !

...and a few chills along the way !

CrazyLegs 09-06-2006 02:32 AM

I wish to go to all the Disney Parks around the world :)

innerSpaceman 09-06-2006 07:44 AM

The photos that miceage linked to, now that ToT is open, show the gorgeousity extending all the way to boarding one's elevator. I would sure like to take a gander for myself.

But, for sights alone, pictures do a pretty good job. The experience of the ride, however, is likely to be only slightly less 'meh' than we can get in DCA. Not that I hate Tower of Terror ... but better art direction is not going to make it that much better of an attraction. Once inside, it's not like our version is totally lacking in interesting art direction anyway.

But, yes, I'm hoping to be able to afford a Nipponese expedition in 2008.

That's in two seconds, by the way.

JWBear 09-06-2006 09:54 AM

I'm dying to see TDS! It's everything we didn't get here with DCA.
