POTC 3 - Filming in Redondo Beach Now (8/23)!!! (w/ Black Pearl Photos!!)

My friend got to witness a battle filmed at sea with the Black Pearl this evening, off the coast of Redondo Beach! (Side Note: She also said that the movie trailers are parked near the Gold's Gym in Redondo Beach, and Johnny Depp was seen signing some autographs in that area too. ;) ) The shooting will continue through the week.

Anyway, here are some of the shots she captured:

That's pretty frelling cool.

Gn2Dlnd 08-23-2006 09:56 PM

Love that smog.

Not Afraid 08-23-2006 09:58 PM

At least there won't be a Long Beach breakwater in the background this time.

I'd be tempted to take a run up if I wasn't so crazy-busy.

RStar 08-23-2006 10:00 PM

That is cool!

Kinda hard to tell it's the Black Pearl in the photos though.

DreadPirateRoberts 08-23-2006 10:00 PM

Those masts sure look short.

Nice Pictures!

Stan4dSteph 08-24-2006 09:04 AM

Thanks for sharing the photos. If I were in the area I would definitely go check it out. I love watching filming. :)

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 08-24-2006 01:55 PM

So close, yet so far!

Mr. Nighy! Mr. Nighy! I'm in Venice. It's, like, down the road or something. Call me!

Why? Do you want a hundred years of servitute and a face like a fish?:D

Disneyphile 08-25-2006 10:34 AM

I just found out that they will continue filming in that area for yet another week. My friend got to watch the pearl sailing fairly quickly from the PV area to Redondo early yesterday morning. She says there appears to be two motors onboard, that are nearly dead silent.

I didn't say Davy Jones. I said Mr. Nighy. I do dig the Nighy. The Girl in the Cafe! Sweetest of on-screen romances. He's ecclectic. And he digs Mos Def. Nighy!!!

That aside, LOL.

Stan4dSteph 08-25-2006 01:05 PM

I wonder if Nighy has to wear a big green body stocking when they film him...

RStar 08-26-2006 02:31 PM

I'm considering going down to see it. Anyone know where they are! Should I just drive up PCH untill I see a tall ship? Redondo is at about Guadalupe and Diamond, so head there? I have never been before......

I may go Tue. so if anyone knows for sure if they are still there, that would be great!

My friend is going back again on Monday, so I'll ask her exactly where they've been filming. They've been off the coast near Joe's Crab Shack in Redondo Beach.

RStar 08-27-2006 09:35 AM

Swank!:snap:

Thank you!!

I liked him as Billy Mack in Love Actually. He played a great old english rocker beautifully!

Here are more photos that my friend took last Thursday/Friday -

DAMN!

So, DP, want to take a long lunch one day this week? ;)

RStar 08-28-2006 01:03 PM

Sounds like we need a LoT meet in Redondo!

Disneyphile 08-28-2006 02:03 PM

I also would have posted the photo of her with Jerry Brockheimer, but I'm respecting her privacy of not pasting her face all over the 'net. ;)

And, as much as I'd kill to venture out on a "long lunch", my boss is in the office all this week, so unfortunately, that won't work. :( (Damn timing.)

RStar 08-28-2006 05:31 PM

So sorry to hear about your timing!

Have you heard from your friend about the exact location? You can PM me if it's best....

Good idea not to put her picture up without asking her.

Portuguese bend. :)

RStar 08-29-2006 06:51 AM

Thank you!

I thought that was a drink at first, though!

Portuguese bend:cheers:

Now to find it on the map...................

RStar 08-29-2006 10:04 AM

Unfortunatly, I find no Portuguese bend in mapquest. Still searching.....

RStar 08-29-2006 10:25 AM

Portuguese Bend is in Rolling Hills, not Redondo Beach from what I find.....

Not Afraid 08-29-2006 10:45 AM

Look for the Lloyd Wright Glass Church - Wayfarers Chapel. Portuguese Bend is across the street from that.

Quote:

The Wayfarers Chapel, 5755 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes

The Wayfarers Chapel is not far geographically from The Crystal Cathedral, but it might as well be light years away. Often simply called The Glass Church, it is a sincerely spiritual place of worship. Designed by Lloyd Wright, this uplifting chapel has all glass walls and ceiling with an astonishing sweeping view of the Pacific Ocean. No pagents here, but plenty of beautiful weddings.

Portuguese bend is where they're filming the battle and sailing scenes. It's the best place to see the Pearl "in action". :)

I blame subsidance - though I think the cocktail notion was a great idea.

RStar 08-29-2006 06:46 PM

Just got back. No Black Pearl.:( :(

We sat there for an hour and drove up and down the coast. Didn't go all the way to Redondo, so they may have been there.

Oh well.

Oh well.

You should have gone up towards the marina in Redondo - I saw her out at sea around 7:00, with a helicopter getting some aerial shots. And, they also fired a cannon - there was a flash of flame and some smoke. :D

RStar 08-29-2006 10:41 PM

Shoot! I knew it! We went about half way from Portuguese Bend to Redondo, and then turned around thinking we may have missed her. We stopped at some of the viewing areas (mainly the Portugueses Bend marker) and looked out. It was pretty foggy and hard to see much. After having been driving and looking around for 2 hours we were tired and drove the hour home.

I'm bummed, but at least I saw Johnny, Kiera, and Orlando at DL and had them all three sign a group photo. So I'm still lucky......

I most totally agree.:snap: The Nighy is da bomb. He's my new favorite actor who isn't that new, actually.
