How hot :)
|
I'm going as Your a rehab failure charlie brown as seen on family guy. For at least one party.
Anyone else got spoilers/previews/hints of thier actual costumes for this year? |
I tried out a Davy Jones variation:
|
That's hella freaky.
|
I'm thinking about entering my work costume contest as Jessica Rabbit.
I need tape. Lots of tape. |
As long as you can breathe in that apparatus, I think it looks awesome!
I don't know if I'll dress up. If I do, I'll just borrow the costume I'll be wearing at the Harry Potter party we're planning. Or, if I'm working that night, maybe I'll go as an employee of another store... ;) |
Ok, here's mine:
![]() Just kidding! We are having a Geek or Goth day at work. Since I am a geek (I work in the lab and wear a white lab coat) , I thought I'd go goth (although many goths would dissagree that this is goth) with this: ![]() The costume comes with two boot spats, but in the movie Riff Raff only wears one. And I'm having a heck of a time finding the boots! |

Probably not the best place to post this - but riding home on the Metro the other day, I evesdropped on a group of teens who were trying to remember the words to the Time Warp...
I felt old |
I ws thinking the other day about Hallloween. If I was 5' tall, I think I'd do this.
![]() I've seen most of the Incredibles characters but never Edna. |

Edna's really a man. Just FYI.;)

Funny thing, I had a roomate in college that saw the film and bought the record (yes, VINYL!) and played it so much that I knew all the songs by heart before I went to see it. I loved the music so much it made me like the film even more (although I still walked away with a little bit of "what did I just watch?"). |

That's because you are. |

I use to think age was a state of mind. But my body has a different opinion. I blew out two discs in my C-Spine and had bone fusion. Now I can't do so many things including lifting over 10 lbs, and am tired all the time.
NOW I feel old!!:( |

And can you emagin what the MA will look like! Oh, and CP, love your Avator! |

![]() And, when I'm mentoring at the Junior High out here, I already do feel really old. They understand none of the stuff I enjoyed when I was little  |
Just to tie all the threads together:
You know you're old when you don't recognize the names of the artists Weird Al is making fun of  |
Quote:
From an email I got from Al (Ok, his people): Dear Close, Personal Friend Of Al... In case you haven't heard the good news... the wait is almost over. The new "Weird Al" Yankovic album, Straight Outta Lynwood, will be in stores on September 26! Straight Outta Lynwood features 12 of Weird Al's latest and greatest songs, including parodies of hits by Chamillionaire, Green Day, Usher, R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks! It's also a DualDisc release, with the DVD side containing Enhanced Stereo, 5.1 Surround and instrumental mixes of the entire album (with an on-screen lyrics option)! And as if that weren't enough... it also includes also a mini-documentary on the making of the album... plus 6 BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEOS!" Chamillionaire, Green Day, Usher, R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks? I know Taylor Hicks from TV and I heard of Usher, but not the rest. THAT makes me feel old..... |
Quote:
Wow..do you live in a cave? Chamillionaire sings Ridin' Dirty and Green Day sings a ton of popular songs (American Idiot, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Good Riddance, and more). |
Green Day are the ones that sound about as punk as Mel Torme...
|
Quote:
|
You don't know Mel Torme?
|

Quote:
As for Green Day - they've been around a long time. I was a teen myself when they first hit. RStar really is old. I think his earlier statement was a senior moment. AND - I know who Mel Torme is ;) |

I thought you meant it like "I feel old because some kid has no idea who Toni Basil is who did "Mickey" that Al paradies as "Ricky"; or Men without Hats is who did the Saftey Dance that Al paradied into The Brady Bunch. But now I know you meant it the other way around. Ooops! |
Quote:
Here is a link Ridin'. It's actually a pretty good song. |
I don't know most artists/songs on the radio. Simply because I rarely listen to the radio. "Chamillionaire" doesn't sound as though it would be my style anyways. :p
For Halloween this year, I think Michael and I will both be on team Zissou. |
Quote:
(They're not exactly Punk, but I still like them!) |
I'm still confused...is comparing Green Day to Mel Torren or whatever his name is a good thing or a bad thing?????
|
I'm not sure....Is Punk a term that means good, or is it just a musical genre?
|
Not to interrupt the Mel Torme/Green Day debate (I love this place), but I do have a question for CoasterMatt, pertaining to the costume he is considering.
Um... Could I borrow it for the next time that Leo visits? (I'll wash it afterwards, of course). |

Mel Torme - a poor man's Sinatra, an older Tom Jones. He's a lounge crooner. |
Soemone doesn't know who Mel Torme is? Chestnuts roasting on an open fire rings no bells for them?
*faint* |
My musc doesn't extend beyond Burt Bacharach !
|
Your WHAT?!?!
|

Saying that Green Day is "as punk as Mel Torme" is akin to saying that Green Day is not at all punk. And it's not particularly a statement of opinion-- "punk" is The Sex Pistols. Patti Smith. The Ramones. By the way, one does not need to live in a cave to avoid whatever talentless hack band the studios are foisting upon the unsuspecting (and not yet discerning) target demographic. One amasses a collection of actually interesting music and one puts it on one's iPod. One might also limit all radio settings to KCRW or other worthy NPR stations. |
Or if you're stuck in the 80s like me, radionigel.com :)

I know who Sinatra is..but Tom Jones? And didn't Sinatra sing The Christmas Song? Quote:
|
I know who Green Day is. They're the band people call punk but they're not. The people quoted below should know.

|
I'll forgive you for not knowing who Mel Torme is, but Tom Freakin' Jones!?!
|
Punk or not, I still like Green Day.
And I shop at Hot Topic ;) |
Quote:
There are plenty of current bands out there that play interesting music. They just don't seem to get played on commercial radio very often. I also realize that I was/am part of the target demographic for my age, but they seem to have a difficult time hitting this target. ;) |

What did he sing? |
What's New Pussy Cat
It's not Unusual Delilah (which Flogging Molly does a great rendition of) Kiss (with Art of Noise) |
Tom Jones also got a lot of ladies underwear thrown at him onstage :)

*Boom Tish* |
and he didn't miss a beat!

Quote:
Ah. Now I know who he is. |
Mel Torme wrote The Christmas Song (with someone else whose name escapes me.) I'd mention his guest shots on Night Court, but you probably haven't heard of that, either.
But heck, Tom Jones was in Mars Attacks! That wasn't *that* long ago, was it? |
Quote:
I do, however, remember Mars Attacks! That was, what, 10 years ago? |

I loved that show. Bull was my favorite. I remember someone got pregnant and a surprised sombody exclaimed, "how did that happen?" Bull went to that person and started whispering in their ear, (presumably) describing what must take place for pregnancy to occur. Funny stuff. Wow, we're way off topic. |
Oh, I don't think so.
|
When I got out of work today, "Delilah" by Tom Jones was playing in the Fountain Court :)
|
damnit. Now I'm going to sing it for the rest of the day again.
(Only I add the FLogging Molly audience participation bit) Why? Why? Why? Delilah (You bitch. You slut. You whore.) |
Trust me, that song is one that even "By Mennen" doesn't fully remove...
