Which TV Character/Show ?

What TV Character or show did you want to be/live in when you were a kid?

I had a few-

I definitely wanted to be Ann Marie in That Girl. She had the cool clothes, nice apartment and Daddy or Donald would rescue her from any of the wacky situations she got herself into. And she never had hair out of place.

Samantha in Bewitched was another one. How cool would it be to be a witch? Just wiggle your nose and things appear or disappear. Plus she had such a great sense of humor between Darrin and her whole wacky family.

I definitely wanted to live in the Family Affair world. Cool high rise apartment. My hometown doesn’t have any buildings over three stories so that was just so amazing to me as a kid. Central Park was your playground. You had Mr. French as your butler and who wouldn’t love Uncle Bill? Buffy & Jody were a little annoying but Cissy seemed like a totally cool big sister. I desperately wanted a Mrs. Beasely doll but never got one.

€uroMeinke 09-13-2006 01:59 PM

Gomez from the Adams Family, cool, swanky, urgoth - he had all the great toys (colliding trains), and a house filled with entertaining ephemera, not to mention his hot wife, Morticia.

AllyOops! 09-13-2006 02:23 PM

Ooh! Fun Thread, katiesue!

Definitely Charlie's Angels. :)

My favorite Angels were Chris Munroe (Cheryl Ladd) & Tiffany Welles (Shelley Hack). Of course, Kelly, Jill, Sabrina & Julie were all pretty swell, too! I thought all of the Angels were just fabulous. They were smart, clever & they looked so gorgeous kickin' ass in their platform shoes and bell bottomed pants! And never a feathered 'do out of place!

I often thought it would be amazing to visit Fantasy Island, until I realized that every hopeful guest usually had a "be careful what you wish for" lesson in the end. :( What kind of fantasy fun vacation is that??

Samantha in Bewitched was another one.

I didn't want to be Samantha, but to the whole Ginger v. MaryAnn v. Jeannie debate, my answer always has always been, "Samantha, baby."

I could also have lived quite happily in "Petticoat Junction."

As to characters I (rightly or wrongly) admired: Lucas McCain, Slip Mahoney, Maxwell Smart, Sam McMillan, James West, Ricky Ricardo.

Anything with Moosie Dreyer.

Somewhat off topic, years ago one of our local TV stations had a marvelous weekend early morning lineup. I don't quite remember the order, but it consisted of:

The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis
Green Acres
Batman (2 episodes)
The Wild Wild West.

A very nice lineup to be hungover to.

SzczerbiakManiac 09-13-2006 02:32 PM

  • The Six Million Dollar Man - But I wanted Jaime Sommers' bionic ear as well.
  • Wonder Woman - Whenever I watched the show, I would spin when she changed her costume.
  • any (Be)witch(ed)
  • The Man from Atlantis - I used to try to swim like him underwater.
  • Isis - I'd often utter her "incantations".

€uroMeinke 09-13-2006 02:34 PM

Ohhh - James West, that's a good one, but also reminds me of another favorite:

Mr. Steed, from the avengers - also a man fullof charm and swank, as well as a super-hot sidekick, Mrs. Peel.

Along the "spy" genre, I might also take Mr. Phelps from Mission Impossible, or even the infamous #6 from the Prisoner.

€uroMeinke 09-13-2006 02:38 PM

damn - now you've got me going:

Ed Straker from UFO
Boris Badinov from Rocky & Bullwinkle

Thank you for the memory flashback!! :D :snap: I too, used to spin n' spin everytime with Wonder Woman!

I had forgotten about Wonder Woman! I loved Wonder Woman and her fabulous gold cuffs and magical lasso. Of course, I also though Wonder Girl (Debra Winer) was pretty fabulous!

I also thought Lyle Waggoner was pretty cute.

Strangler Lewis 09-13-2006 02:41 PM

Mrs. Peel, we're needed.

Absof*inlutely.

Which reminds me: Big from "Sex in the City," although that is, of course, more of an adult thing.

yeah, that about says it all for me.

mmmmm.....Morticia.

Ooh! I was thinking Sex & The City, too! If we're doing the adult 'thang, then I definitely would pick Carrie Bradshaw fromSex & The City. She's the absolute definition of charming and fabulous, and her Manolo Blahnik collection is to die for!

Of course, Buffy Summers from Buffy The Vampire Slayer is my absolute favorite. She's smart, gorgeous, clever & has super strength! :snap: The best part? She got to sleep with both Angel & Spike. Spike alone makes this choice my top pick. ;)

katiesue 09-13-2006 02:52 PM

I forgot about Wonder Woman. The invisible plane was so cool.

And I'm with Ally Lyle was hot!

CoasterMatt 09-13-2006 03:02 PM

I wanted to be Snake Eyes from GI Joe

James West

Dr. Bruce Banner

katiesue 09-13-2006 03:11 PM

I love Wild Wild West - but I was more of an Artemus Gordon fan. All the clever gadgets.

You must spread some Mojo around before giving it to katiesue again.

:snap: :snap:

Don't you wish Lyle could have worked his mojo on us?? :D

CoasterMatt 09-13-2006 03:18 PM

Can I watch Ally give it to katiesue again?

Kevy Baby 09-13-2006 03:52 PM

I wanted to be:
  • McGeyver
  • Artemus Gordon (I always felt he was the cooler of the two)
  • Mr. Hart of Hart to Hart - what a COOL relationship they had and he had a fun job to boot!
  • I always wanted to be a Brady. Not any particular one - just part of the family (I longed for a better family life when I was young).
I'm sure I'll think of more later

Ghoulish Delight 09-13-2006 03:58 PM

Dr. Who (Tom Baker, of course). Cool under pressure, disdain for stupid questions, always ready with a snide comeback, and the longest scarf in the history of the universe. What's not to like?

Snowflake 09-13-2006 04:40 PM

Oh my, great topic!

Emma Peel from The Avengers. The epitome of cool and her everchanging apartment was always fascinating. Not to mention what an awesome driver she was. What was that huge block of plaster going to be, she never finished as far as I can recall?

Cathy, Patty Duke's cooler cousin from the UK.

Samantha from Bewitched, doing magic and being able to snap your fingers to relocate, fabulous.

And, in a gender switch, Dr. Miguelito Loveless, who had all the charm, smarts and the best laugh. He also had very cool henchmen.

Not Afraid 09-13-2006 04:44 PM

Oh, this is easy if we're talking childhood!

In Order or Preference:

Morticia Adams
Samantha Stevens
Emma Peel
Phoebe Figalilly (is a silly name and so many silly things keep happening.)
Mrs. Lucy Muir
Lilly Munster

Oh was this the show with Juliet Mills and Richard Long? (Loved him)
A mod Mary Poppins, right?

Not Afraid 09-13-2006 04:52 PM

Yes! Nanny and the Professor. I LOVED this show. (Obviously. I can still sing the teme song.;))

I remember it, but I can't remember the theme song. The animation in the credits had something to do with the rainbow on her hat, I think.

Not Afraid 09-13-2006 05:21 PM

Just to share with everyone else:

katiesue 09-13-2006 05:24 PM

I also wanted to have Hazel be my maid.

Mrs. B! Mrs. B!

Strangler Lewis 09-13-2006 07:17 PM

And let us not forget the sexiest man in television history . . . the Professor

Prudence 09-13-2006 07:38 PM

What's really sad is that I actually wanted to be Perry Mason.
Or Paladin.

*sigh*

When I started reading this thread Nanny and the professor was the first thing that came to mind! I'm thrilled that someone else remembers it!

I used to wish I could be on Sigmund and the sea monsters or was that HR Puffenstuff.

When I was really young there was a show with animals(people in costumes) that I always dreamed of running away to.

Alright now I'm thinking of all the old shows I used to love!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane:cool:

tracilicious 09-13-2006 08:30 PM

I wanted to be Penny from Inspector Gadget. Also, the country sister on The Parent Trap.

Banana Splits?

or perhaps...

The New Zoo Revue

Cadaverous Pallor 09-13-2006 08:51 PM

She-Ra, Princess of Power.

katiesue 09-13-2006 09:13 PM

I loved Bannana Splits. I wanted to be part of the Hair Bear Bunch - I've still got my lunchbox.

mistyisjafo 09-14-2006 05:24 AM

I'd have to say I wanted to be Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman, or related to the Dukes of Hazzard.

On another note to that I wanted my dog to be LASSIE. I even named her after the famous collie. Luckily I never fell in a well!

Now I wish I had the balls to be like Samantha in Sex in the City! LOL

Gemini Cricket 09-14-2006 05:59 AM

Rosco P. Coltrane.
So I could chase them Duke boys to my heart's content...
:D

Cadaverous Pallor 09-14-2006 08:26 AM

I keep thinking of this thread and realizing I wanted to be the characters in movies, not on TV. First one to pop into mind is Short Round from Temple of Doom. Hell yeah!

Gemini Cricket 09-14-2006 08:29 AM

"Holy smoke! Crash landing!"

katiesue 09-14-2006 08:46 AM

I named my dog Meatball after the one in BaBa Blacksheep.

cirquelover 09-14-2006 10:17 AM

Coaster Matt- It was New Zoo Revue! But I did love the Banana Splits too! Thanks for the pics, that's really cool!

I used to watch BaBa Blacksheep with my dad all the time. I loved the main guy something Conrad.
I feel old because I can't remember anything anymore!

katiesue 09-14-2006 10:48 AM

Robert Conrad - I loved him too.

sleepyjeff 09-14-2006 11:26 AM

Mr. Agony from ABCs Wide World of Sports

:D

BarTopDancer 09-14-2006 11:42 AM

I wanted to be Wonder Woman - I even had Wonder Woman UnderROOS

I wanted to be either of the girls on the A-Team. That would be soooo cool. I was crushing on Hannibal and Face.

I wanted to be Tawnya on Knight Rider and I wanted to be related to the Dukes so I could ride in the General Lee.

I also wanted to be Elliott from E.T.

€uroMeinke 09-14-2006 06:25 PM

Ah well, if movies are included:

Bond, James Bond would top the list, or the Angel in Wings of Desire, or Tomaj in the Unbearable Lightness of Being.

katiesue 09-14-2006 07:05 PM

Movies -

Sandy in Grease

Dale Arden in Flash Gordon

Sam in Sixteen Candles

wendybeth 09-14-2006 11:30 PM

I was such a tomboy- I always wanted to be Luke Skywalker, or James West, or even James Bond. Girls roles were so boring. I suppose Susan Dey as Laurie Partridge would have been cool, because we all know she was the real leader of the band.

Boss Radio 09-17-2006 01:16 AM

First, I wanted to be Alvin, from the Chipmunks.
Then, Fleegle from the Banana Splits.
But my epiphany came in the form of Keith Partridge.

And then, of course...Oscar Madison.
