What TV Character or show did you want to be/live in when you were a kid?

I had a few-

I definitely wanted to be Ann Marie in That Girl. She had the cool clothes, nice apartment and Daddy or Donald would rescue her from any of the wacky situations she got herself into. And she never had hair out of place.

Samantha in Bewitched was another one. How cool would it be to be a witch? Just wiggle your nose and things appear or disappear. Plus she had such a great sense of humor between Darrin and her whole wacky family.

I definitely wanted to live in the Family Affair world. Cool high rise apartment. My hometown doesn’t have any buildings over three stories so that was just so amazing to me as a kid. Central Park was your playground. You had Mr. French as your butler and who wouldn’t love Uncle Bill? Buffy & Jody were a little annoying but Cissy seemed like a totally cool big sister. I desperately wanted a Mrs. Beasely doll but never got one.

Gomez from the Adams Family, cool, swanky, urgoth - he had all the great toys (colliding trains), and a house filled with entertaining ephemera, not to mention his hot wife, Morticia.

I didn't want to be Samantha, but to the whole Ginger v. MaryAnn v. Jeannie debate, my answer always has always been, "Samantha, baby."

I could also have lived quite happily in "Petticoat Junction."

As to characters I (rightly or wrongly) admired: Lucas McCain, Slip Mahoney, Maxwell Smart, Sam McMillan, James West, Ricky Ricardo.

Anything with Moosie Dreyer.

Somewhat off topic, years ago one of our local TV stations had a marvelous weekend early morning lineup. I don't quite remember the order, but it consisted of:

The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis
Green Acres
Batman (2 episodes)
The Wild Wild West.

A very nice lineup to be hungover to.

Ohhh - James West, that's a good one, but also reminds me of another favorite:

Mr. Steed, from the avengers - also a man fullof charm and swank, as well as a super-hot sidekick, Mrs. Peel.

Along the "spy" genre, I might also take Mr. Phelps from Mission Impossible, or even the infamous #6 from the Prisoner.

I love Wild Wild West - but I was more of an Artemus Gordon fan. All the clever gadgets.

I wanted to be:

• McGeyver
• Artemus Gordon (I always felt he was the cooler of the two)
• Mr. Hart of Hart to Hart - what a COOL relationship they had and he had a fun job to boot!
• I always wanted to be a Brady. Not any particular one - just part of the family (I longed for a better family life when I was young).

I'm sure I'll think of more later

Dr. Who (Tom Baker, of course). Cool under pressure, disdain for stupid questions, always ready with a snide comeback, and the longest scarf in the history of the universe. What's not to like?

Emma Peel from The Avengers. The epitome of cool and her everchanging apartment was always fascinating. Not to mention what an awesome driver she was. What was that huge block of plaster going to be, she never finished as far as I can recall?

Cathy, Patty Duke's cooler cousin from the UK.

Samantha from Bewitched, doing magic and being able to snap your fingers to relocate, fabulous.

And, in a gender switch, Dr. Miguelito Loveless, who had all the charm, smarts and the best laugh. He also had very cool henchmen.

Oh, this is easy if we're talking childhood!

I remember it, but I can't remember the theme song. The animation in the credits had something to do with the rainbow on her hat, I think.

When I started reading this thread Nanny and the professor was the first thing that came to mind! I'm thrilled that someone else remembers it!

I used to wish I could be on Sigmund and the sea monsters or was that HR Puffenstuff.

When I was really young there was a show with animals(people in costumes) that I always dreamed of running away to.

Alright now I'm thinking of all the old shows I used to love!

I loved Bannana Splits. I wanted to be part of the Hair Bear Bunch - I've still got my lunchbox.

I'd have to say I wanted to be Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman, or related to the Dukes of Hazzard.

On another note to that I wanted my dog to be LASSIE. I even named her after the famous collie. Luckily I never fell in a well!

I keep thinking of this thread and realizing I wanted to be the characters in movies, not on TV. First one to pop into mind is Short Round from Temple of Doom. Hell yeah!

I named my dog Meatball after the one in BaBa Blacksheep.

I used to watch BaBa Blacksheep with my dad all the time. I loved the main guy something Conrad.

I wanted to be Wonder Woman - I even had Wonder Woman UnderROOS

I wanted to be either of the girls on the A-Team. That would be soooo cool. I was crushing on Hannibal and Face.

I wanted to be Tawnya on Knight Rider and I wanted to be related to the Dukes so I could ride in the General Lee.

Vinko Bogataj. I remember my grandmother telling me she saw it happen on live tv.

I had a friend who always said "That's my Dad".

I also wanted to be Elliott from E.T.

Ah well, if movies are included:

Bond, James Bond would top the list, or the Angel in Wings of Desire, or Tomaj in the Unbearable Lightness of Being.

I was such a tomboy- I always wanted to be Luke Skywalker, or James West, or even James Bond. Girls roles were so boring. I suppose Susan Dey as Laurie Partridge would have been cool, because we all know she was the real leader of the band.

First, I wanted to be Alvin, from the Chipmunks.
Then, Fleegle from the Banana Splits.
But my epiphany came in the form of Keith Partridge.

And then, of course...Oscar Madison.
