The Weird Al thread

Coaster Matt threatened to do it but I beat him to it. :D

After seeing the new video I checked out Weird Al's site.

Turns out he can't release this spoof on his record but you can download it free!

DisneyFan25863 09-24-2006 02:08 AM

I love Weird Al. The Polkarama song on his new album is hilarious!

RStar 09-24-2006 09:19 AM

OMG! The Lost Rhapsody is hilarious! I love Lost and Al!:snap:

The song "You're Pitiful" is a parody of "Your Beautiful". Weird Al always gets the artist's approval. Al got the approval for Your Pitiful and recorded it for his new album. Then the artist's record label said "no".

Now, Al doesn't have to have approval to put these out, but because he got a "no"', he left it off the album. But he wants to know when does a record label own the voice of their artists, and change their opinions for them? So, he decided that because he had the artist's approval already, and just to piss off the suits, instead of selling the song, he'd give it away on his myspace!:D

Yeah. I downloaded it off iTunes the day it came out. It's awesome!

RStar 09-24-2006 02:05 PM

Did you get the extras with that? Like the videos and such?

No. The weird thing is that it's not even on iTunes anymore. I didn't download the entire album, though. Just a few songs.

RStar 09-24-2006 04:35 PM

Wierd (no pun intended. Well, maybe...)

It doesn't come out until the 26th, so I think itunes did a boo-boo. I got this email:

Dear Close, Personal Friend Of Al...

In case you haven't heard the good news... the wait is almost over.

The new "Weird Al" Yankovic album, Straight Outta Lynwood, will be in stores on September 26!

Straight Outta Lynwood features 12 of Weird Al's latest and greatest songs, including parodies of hits by Chamillionaire, Green Day, Usher, R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks!

It's also a DualDisc release, with the DVD side containing Enhanced Stereo, 5.1 Surround and instrumental mixes of the entire album (with an on-screen lyrics option)!

And as if that weren't enough... it also includes also a mini-documentary on the making of the album... plus 6 BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEOS!

Of course, you can join the huddled masses waiting for your local record store to open its doors on the morning of September 26... or if you'd rather save the time and the gas money, you can just pre-order the new album from WeirdAl.Com

And yes, I know I can't spell "Straight".....

Cadaverous Pallor 09-25-2006 10:20 AM

If you've got some time to kill, check this out. It's a bit long but fun.

Cadaverous Pallor 09-25-2006 10:28 AM

I've never seen nor heard this one before. It's very They Might Be Giants.

Babette 09-25-2006 05:39 PM

WA was on Kevin & Bean on KROQ radio this morning. He said it is sad because he always pays the artists when the parody is on an album. Now everyone is still getting the song and they get no moola. The record company wanted the artist (name anyone?) of Your Beautiful to become more of a household name on his own before being associated with the parody. He should fire their @$$es for losing him money. At least he is getting some attention for it, whatever his name is!

I am ashamed to admit that I know this, but Christina Agulara sings You're Beautiful.

Nope. It's the James Blunt song.

Did she cover it?

Why do I care?

Nope, different song entirely. Go download the parody at Al's site - you'll recognize the tune.

I heard it on VH1 yesterday. I recognized it and I swore it was by her. Oh well. I'm happy to be wrong. :D

The Christina Aguilera song is just called "Beautiful". I guess the tune is kinda similar, but they're definitely different songs. (And now my Amazon browsing cookies are outta whack, thinking I actually care about Blunt and Aguilera).

See, that's what I was talking about also. I did recognize the tune when I heard the parady. So I might be old, but I'm not dead!

BTW, I'd guess you to be at LEAST 15 years younger than me :D .....

47, so I was real close! Yes, I was alive in the 50's, and I don't remember much of the 60's.

And I feel Disneyland has kept me young.

Ok, so it's an excuse to act like a kid. But what the heck....

So I grew up with Led Zepplin, Queen, AC/DC, Heart, Cat Stevens, and of course The Beatles.

Cool! I thought 'ol "Monk" Cat was long forgotten! The difference is that I purchased his albums as they were released.

Of course Zep and the Fab Four have, while still main stream, moved over to "classic" now. And my mom use to go to the Beatles concerts (you know, those screaming teen girls!), and played the albums relentlously.

But, I think we got off track of Al.......

His new album came out yesterday, and includes:

White & Nerdy
Pancreas
Canadian Idiot
I'll Sue Ya
Polkarama!
Virus Alert
Confessions Part III
Weasel Stomping Day
Close But No Cigar
Do I Creep You Out
Trapped In The Drive-Thru
Don't Download This Song

DualDisc includes PCM Stereo, 5.1 Surround and instrumental mixes of the entire album
(with on-screen lyrics option), plus a 9-minute behind-the-scenes documentary and
6 Brand New Music Videos from world-class animators Bill Plympton, John Kricfalusi,
Jim Blashfield, Thomas Lee, David C. Lovelace and Robot Chicken!

And can be ordered here:

Looks like I'll be stopping by the store on the way home!

FEJ 09-28-2006 05:17 PM

My friend Maxx is in the video, to the right of Weird Al, playing trivial pursuit.

I'd like to mention, rather late in this thread, that I met Weird Al quite some years ago. He rode my vehicle at The Great Movie Ride. He was very tall, and very pleasant. He's tops in my book.

Motorboat Cruiser 09-29-2006 12:46 PM

I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times back in the 90's. His drummer, Bermuda Shwartz, and I, were both endorsed by the same drumstick company and our paths crossed during the various music conventions we would both attend. Usually, Al wasn't usually very talkative and, in fact, I remember one particular day, where he came to the booth we were at and went and sat in the corner, on the floor by himself, for about an hour. I think he just needed a little break from his adoring fans. Still, he was always polite and friendly when we met. His drummer was far more outgoing, however.

RStar 10-01-2006 01:41 PM

I belive Bermuda Shwartz was the one who started the official website. It took someone out going to get it started I guess.

And boy, Al can put on a concert!

But I don't care much for his new album. His last two were great, but this one so far doesn't jive with me. At least not yet, and I haven't listened to all of each song yet. But the Dual disk idea is cool. There are a bunch of videos for the songs on the DVD side, which is a great idea. And the case is nice, with a push button release to open it.
