GC's Big Move to L.A.
To further pursue a career of my own, I have decided to leave Boston behind and move to Los Angeles.
Ralphie and I will be apart but he is very supportive of my decision. October 20th is the day. I have no firmed up plans yet, but I will be staying with friends while I look for a job and a car. Wish me luck. Brad :) |
LA as in Orange County, right? RIGHT?!
Or, as CP just said, "The Los Angeles Brad of Anaheim". :D There's a lovely 2 bedroom apartment opening up in Irvine in a week or so. Okay, maybe "lovely's" a stretch. |
WooHoo! Good news indeed on the move! Congrats GC!
Looks like you'll be a SoCal AP holder very soon!:D |

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's GREAT! Good luck! :)
|
I am supremely happy about this :)
As for whether to abide behind the Orange Curtain or not ... may I suggest you forego living five minutes from Disneyland, and take advantage of the greater economic opportunities offered in Los Angeles proper. (Ok, yeah, I'm sick of all my Disneyland buddies living in the O.C.) Just FYI, my West L.A. residence is a mere half an hour from the Park. And, I guess now's a good time to confess that I've been toying with idea of flying out east and driving cross-country with you back to L.A. I've always wanted to drive cross-country, and I think we'd have a ball. (now if only i had any vacation time coming, or the price of a one-way airline ticket ... that, btw, would also be my ticket to cavity-search terrorism suspicion.) |
Yay! How exciting.
|
It's a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy. First Snowflake and now GC. You all won't be happy until I'm the last one standing out here on the bitter east coast.
The tribe has spoken. We're all leaving this stupid island, you have fun all by yourself. :p Oh and of course GL to you GC and all that. :snap: |
Yayyyyy!!! Now we can see you next spring! Very, very cool news, GC!:snap:
(And to think that iSm is willing to undergo a body-cavity search for you- that's true friendship! ) |

So you'll be there in December, right? And I'll finally get to meet you?

Great news, GC! May I suggest Long Beach? Nearly as expensive as the O.C. but without the cooties.:p |
Rock On!! There's a room in the Nuclear Muffin Test Kitchen for any temporary stays you might need.
|
Yay for you! Here's to hoping you find a place and a job you love right away!

Oh, and I'm sorry I couldn't respond/mojo/PM earlier. We're trying to hook up a wireless to my laptop and killed all of our internet access in the process.
lol! :D But I can mojo you from work, I can! :) |
Congratulations!
|
Hugs and congrats! Looking forward to seeing you more often.
|
Also looking forward to maybe seeing GC up in the Bay Area, too.
You can always add the Valentino shrine to your line up of places to crash and also cash in a chit for a free dinner, too! |
There's no one more excited and happy than I am - except Charles.

You can't steal Charles. I think we'd notice. He's too big.
|
You'd find another giant cat. Let him take Charles (that's assuming Charles is liftable by human strength).
|
:D
|
Woo hoo!
|
Yippee skippee! I can't wait to see you on a regular basis :)
Sorry, Ralphie, he's all ours now! P.S. We are like Gemini Twins! I too will be looking for a new residence in the OC/LB area. I will pass along any good leads. |

|
just in time, too!

Thanks for all the good luck wishes. You guys are mojorific! :)
To be honest, I've been having a hard time. I'm scared, excited, worried, terrified and happy all at the same time. It's an important step for me, but I'm totally scared, too. I'm a nest-er. I like to stick to one place and stay there. So the more I move around, the more scattered I get. And we've/I've been moving around a lot in my life. What it looks like now is that I will be staying with a close friend for free for awhile. I'll be on his couch until I get on my feet. It seems to be the only way. But I will get on my feet... at least I keep hearing myself say that... I've got my resume ready and set to send out, but there's a car to worry about (which I didn't need to do here in Boston... it's a walking city) and bills and a dog to leave behind. There's also our Ralphie that I'm leaving in Boston. That's become the hardest part. I'm feeling so panicked (sp?) out, y'all. Any advice? :( |
Don't forget to breathe :)
|
My advice is whatever you have to do, take a deep breath (like Matt says) and jump. Barge in on whatever needs taking care of and kick its ass. Aggression leaves no time for worry and stress. I try to emulate that, because as soon as I stop moving, I start thinking too much about it and it freaks me out.
It's working on the current craziness in my life :) |
Make a list of stuff you need to do, then start doing it. As CP said jump right in and you won't have time to panic.
|
On the other hand, the sooner you start procrastinating the more time you will have to get caught up.
|
Carpe Diem !!
(I think that means, Die, Carp! ) :p |
Oh, and if you don't sieze the day, then wait till I get to LA and we'll see what we can sieze....
...god, I'm trashy... |
A long distance move like that, alone, is stressful. Accept offers of help when they come your way.
Stuff will work itself out. All will be well. :) |
Hmmmm, perhaps the advice in this recent thread will prove helpful in your situation.
And I've got a dog you can walk, and a really uncomfortable couch you can sleep on any time. Oh, and how crappy a car can you handle? I mean, I've actually got a lead on a used car for sale, dirt cheap, that's in very good shape and has very few miles on it .... for how freaking OLD is it is (1989 Toyota). In between breathing and staying busy with the million things you'll have to do to move, take time to recall all the love and support waiting for you at your destination. I mean, I'll do any freaking thing for you ... and I am but one lowly charter member of the Brad Fan Club (So.Cal. Chapter) |
Having just done the cross country move myself. As has been said before, make a list. Then, start pitching stuff. I found stuff in boxes from my move from CA to VA and all that hit the dumpster (or thrift shop). Even so, as I am unpacking and organizing, I'm still shocked at how much crap came with me. No doubt you will too.
The car will work itself out. I needed a car in VA when I got there and found a huge honking Chrystler New Yorker for $600 that served me very well until I got my current set of wheels. Not to mention the LA chapter of Craig's list is awesome. It's scary and exciting and as iSm said, you have a huge supportive group waiting for you to come home to CA. There's going to be a whole mess of people with cheshire cat grins ready to greet you and help you find a place/find a job and unpack and get settled! Take all the help you can get. |
I have a '96 Cavalier you can have. It runs, just needs a new waterpump.
