GC's California Screamin Countdown

No, not the roller coaster at DCA, but the countdown to GC's pending arrival to Southen California.

16 days and counting (providing you're on schedule).

How goes the packing and purging?

Gemini Cricket 10-05-2006 05:14 AM

All is going well so far.

I'm going to purchase my plane ticket today and I'm going to rummage through my clothes to sort them out and make a donation to the Goodwill.

My resume is already in the hands of a couple of people who have potential job connections for me.

I gave my current job a month's notice, so they are aware of my departure and are willing to write me letters of recommendation if need be. Which is awesome.

Ralphie will be getting instructions from me this week on how to tend to my aquarium while I am away.

So, so far so good.

Officially, I will be leaving on the 22nd of October. My east coast posse is throwing me a farewell party on the 21st. :)

I can't wait to get to L.A. The weather is cold here already. Me not do cold.

Given Ralpie's profession, I can't help but smile at this one - for God's sake isn't being a Marine Biologist good enough?

Ha, bleary-eyed on he plane, just in time for the west coast posse to throw you a welcome party!

How come Ralphie needs instructions on the fish? Is it because they're freshwater? (Are they, I'm ashamed not to remember, been a while since that thread got updated)

Gemini Cricket 10-05-2006 07:58 AM

If my fish were squid, tunicates, octopi, deep sea worms or sea cucumbers, then I'd have no worries.
But mamma takes good care of her fish. There's water testing to be done, gravel vacuuming and weekly water changes to be performed. It should take him no more than 3 two hour sessions of instruction. I'm very thorough. I have charts and a video instruction guide for him to help him. Also, he has to get at least a B- on his verbal exam, too. Only then will he be able to be trusted with the task.

:D
I'm kidding. He just need to learn how to work a Python. One of the best inventions ever. :)

innerSpaceman 10-05-2006 08:16 AM

Hmmm, we'll drink a contemporaneous party toast on th 21st to your imminent arrival ... there's some sorta shindig going on around here that date. Sticks in my mind for some reason.

Not Afraid 10-05-2006 08:18 AM

So, which MA team can he join?

innerSpaceman 10-05-2006 08:20 AM

Oh my, turns out there's an opening on both our teams!

Coincidence? I.think.not.

Ghoulish Delight 10-05-2006 08:23 AM

Yes, but is subjecting him to an Invitational as his first event really something a friend would do?

innerSpaceman 10-05-2006 08:54 AM

yes.

an evil friend.

the best kind.

Isaac 10-05-2006 09:51 AM

My team may have a spot that needs to be filled since belleh5 can't play this time (damn pregnancy).

Gemini Cricket 10-05-2006 10:16 AM

MA, eh?
Hmmm.
:)

Gemini Cricket 10-05-2006 10:32 AM

My planet ticket has been purchased.
Got a good price, too. $180.00 on United.
For some reason it was cheaper to fly to Burbank from Boston than to LAX. Like $60 cheaper. Hmm. Oh well.
Arriving at Burbank at 1pm on the 22nd.
Sweeeeeet! :)

CoasterMatt 10-05-2006 11:01 AM

Wow! A planet ticket!

I know you're travelin' some miles, but that's crazy :D

Maybe that's why the fare was so cheap?

Not Afraid 10-05-2006 01:37 PM

There is no room on my team. We've got a puzzle master flying down from the damp north.

Gemini Cricket 10-06-2006 09:30 AM

I'm basically packing my life into two suitcases. This is going to be interesting. I think I can ship a couple of boxes of necessities on ahead...
I have all my music on my laptop and my books and DVDs will have to be shipped, I guess. I can't be without my movies and books...
Hmmm.

I want to take my Donald big fig with me, but maybe I shouldn't.
:D

innerSpaceman 10-06-2006 07:07 PM

Um, what happened to that U-Haul you thought you were going to need?

Nope. I decided to fly. It's faster.

Besides, Ralphie's coming out to CA eventually and we'll have our stuff shipped together then.
:)

innerSpaceman 10-06-2006 07:37 PM

So, you'll be sorta like a gypsy, then?

Perhaps Vagabond!

or is it just Hobo???

Yes, iSm, I will be a gypsy (unemployed, trying to entertain people with my theatre background for pennies, all the while looking for a Phoebus to tame me). :)

MouseWife 10-08-2006 10:18 AM

Boy, leave town for a while and I miss everything!!

What else is going on that I am not aware of?????

Well, this means I may actually be able to have a day at the park with you eventually?

Will the gypsy have an AP?

innerSpaceman 10-08-2006 10:44 AM

Heheh, likely before you can say "Rose Lee."

MouseWife 10-08-2006 12:28 PM

That soon? :snap:

Nice clear blues skies today :)

innerSpaceman 10-11-2006 08:27 AM

Oh, is it mid-October? Hmm, why is it a balmy 75 degrees out? Ah, how lovely.

The only problem with how wonderful So. Cal is as a place to live is how many people keeping find that out and moving here. I usually hate everyone who bumps up our bursting population, but in G.C.'s case, I'll make an ecstatic exception!

:) You remember. :)

Wow, talk about a sign. That was just for you, you know. :D

LOL That is because music is part of you, like me. I will think song bits and talk to the kids with song bits.

I was doing that to my son in an elevator the other day, a She Wants Revenge song. The line was 'I don't want to fall in love' but more. He looked at me like 'What the heck are you saying?????' I repeated myself a few times, still quite seriously, before he got it. I got a major eye roll for that one. :p

Can't wait till you come out...I am trying to finangle an AP for me....I have a Knott's one....

Very cool! Listen, I've got a shot of adrenalin and I don't even know when I'll actually meet you! Just knowing you're heading west is just fantabulous!:D

Gemini Cricket 10-15-2006 03:14 PM

One week!
:)
I'm not packed.
We're that thing I was going to take with me?
Where are my suitcases?
What happened to that thing, you know, that thing...?!
Where am I?

:D

innerSpaceman 10-17-2006 07:57 AM

Um, the count has officially changed from Days Mode to Hours Mode.

Throw some sh!t in a suitcase, G.C.

Yay!

One question GC, how late is that farewell party going to run on Thursday? Is the party going to drop you at the airport?

Then, how long before the welcome party starts in CA once the eagle has landed?

Gemini Cricket 10-18-2006 07:05 AM

So much to do. I'm working up to Friday and then leaving on Sunday morning. That leaves me tonight, tomorrow morning, and Saturday morning to pack. I have an event to attend to on Friday after work and a goodbye party to go to on Sat eve...

I still have to figure out how I'm getting from the Burbank Airport to Todd's.

I also decided not to take a whole lot with me. It's just easier to ship it later...

T-minus 4 days and counting...
:)

Snowflake 10-18-2006 07:12 AM

Just remember to take slow, easy, deep breaths!
Since you're flying, pack clothes and important immediate need papers and documents, basic grooming supplies can be bought in LA. Take your iPod and AP and ship everything else! :)

MickeyLumbo 10-18-2006 07:42 AM

on your trip, instead of counting volkswagons
or sticking your head out the window saying "mooooo",

count the hidden mickey crop circles

see ya real soon

Todd's - I haven't heard of that one...... That's an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, isn't it ?

Gemini Cricket 10-19-2006 03:28 PM

Todd's sending the limo to Burbank. Thank goodness. :D

All is well with me. Sorting through "stuff to take" and "stuff to leave".

To be honest, I'm not looking forward to saying goodbye on Sunday. The thought makes me very, very melancholy. Ugh....

Never say goodbye! Say farewell and see you real soon!

innerSpaceman 10-23-2006 08:15 AM

So, do I delete this thread now?

Or do we wait for G.C. to get an internet connection?

(Um, and he needs a welcome gathering real soon to help stave off the blues. Hmmmm, I believe he's house-sitting for some Florida-bound MiceChatters. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.)

;)

Gemini Cricket 10-23-2006 09:20 AM

I am, in fact, at Casa de Dustysage in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. :)
The whirlwind of WDW bound MCers has just left. Last night was slumber party night meeting folks I had been talking to for about 2 years and hadn't met until last night.

I just figured out the wireless thang with help from an internet/computer guru team and am now interneted.

My body's still getting used to the beautiful weather here and I have yet to unpack anything.

I am one happy girl, I tells ya. :)

As for a party, I'm all for it. But I dare not do it here. Don't wanna get kicked outta my new digs so soon. :D

Welcome back to the beautiful West Coast GC!

Good to see you have your priorities straight (no pun intended) PC connected first, then unpacking stuff.

Tuesday, Disneyland. Anyone game? ;)

CoasterMatt 10-23-2006 12:22 PM

I would love to, but I'm closing up another park Tuesday :(

Ghoulish Delight 10-23-2006 12:24 PM

We'll be up to our elbows in kitchen cabinet primer. But we'll be sure to see him soon.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 10-23-2006 12:57 PM

Aw, I be workin' and many miles away. Othewise I would so be there!

lashbear 10-23-2006 01:21 PM

innerSpaceman 10-23-2006 07:31 PM

Sunday. Disneyland. Anyone game?

€uroMeinke 10-23-2006 08:35 PM

Welcome back GC - Now if I could only make it back for a Disney meet...

Gemini Cricket 10-23-2006 10:20 PM

Did my inspection of the park today. All is well.
Will be back at the park tomorrow and possibly Sunday.
:) :) :)

Thanks for the wonderful welcome, y'all.

I, however, won't be there. :(
