How Many Of Me Are There?

http://ww2.howmanyofme.com/

There are 1,601 people in the US with the same first and last name as me. :D

(whoops, misplaced a couple digits)

Prudence 10-24-2006 03:42 PM

Apparently I don't actually exist, and neither does anyone in my family.

CoasterMatt 10-24-2006 03:44 PM

Well, the site does say it's in beta :p

From the FAQ

Quote:

Q: Why isn't my name on the list?
The list of names from the census bureau isn't complete. For privacy reasons, names with relatively few responses were not included in the list. We used this data to create this site. Our site can only be as good as the data we have to work with.
  • Around 1 out of every 10 people will have a last name not on the list.
  • Around 1 out of every 10 people will have a first name not on the list.
Using the same statistical fallacy this site is known for, that means about 81% of people will have both names on the list. In a mathamatical coup our scientists have determined from this information that about 19% of people will have either one or both names missing from the list.

"I think it's important not to take it as a rejection of you personally." Gabriel Caine -- Diggstown.
As for my name, it comes up with 113 (131 if I include the shortened form of my first name). Seems low. Plus, it's a very flawed statistical model seeing as it doesn't take into account the relative odds of certain ethnic first name not matching with other ethnic surnames (e.g. if your first name is Juan, odds would be lower that your last name is Smith than if your first name were John, even if there are the same number of Johns and Juans).

CoasterMatt 10-24-2006 03:56 PM

There's 389,959 people with the last name "Sanchez", but none of them with the first name "Dirty"

Jughead P. Jones 10-24-2006 05:08 PM

Apparently, I share my name with a whopping 21 people.

Didn't know that there were 21 other "Jughead's" out there.

Motorboat Cruiser 10-24-2006 05:08 PM

nope, nobody else named motorboat. :)

But there are 66 with my real name.

lizziebith 10-24-2006 05:20 PM

1,405,353 other Elizabeths out there, but my last name turns up nobody! Whoo-hoo!

I did find a lot of dead mes last time I googled myself. Yeah, I google myself -- there's nothing wrong with that: it's perfectly healthy!

Matterhorn Fan 10-24-2006 05:52 PM

There are no other people named Matterhorn, but there are 3,390 people named Fan.

JWBear 10-24-2006 06:31 PM

There are 6,057 people in the U.S. with my name.

Well, Jack William Bear is a very common name !!

Moonliner 10-24-2006 07:37 PM

Ha! My Trojan web site worked. I now know all of your real names and your associated IP addresses.

scaeagles 10-24-2006 07:51 PM

The thing that I found interesting wasn't how many shared my first name or last name or both (only 5 have the same first and last as I do, so it says), but that only 99.07% of he people named Leo are male.

Who names a girl Leo?

Mousey Girl 10-24-2006 08:30 PM

only 5 of me

lashbear 10-24-2006 08:33 PM

None of me in the states.

....that's cos I'm here, I guess.

RStar 10-24-2006 08:45 PM

Wow, there are 4,726,005 with my first name (Robert), but only 51 with both my names. My dad is one of them  .

Nope, Goulish Delight came up with a big fat 0- zero- ziltch- nada.

Sorry...;)
However, Greg is no longer very popular I guess. I've known several, but only 155,984 now lay claim to it. Strange.

Boy, they are rare folks! But I thought they said they left out figures with low counts. What do they figure to be low? One? Negitive two??

Yup, that's the "R" in RStar. The Star is the first four letters of my last name.

Statistically the 3rd most popular first name.
99.75 percent of people with the first name Robert are male.
Duh, ya think most of them are male? Who names their daughter Robert?

That's because you spelled Ghoulish incorrectly :D

662,931 for Gregory, though.

If it relies on census names, you'll probably want search with the full versions of names, not the more popular short versions. It is generally the former that goes on documents.

Though Alex is one of the odd ones where you do get a lot of people who are simply Alex and not Alexander. (And, for all I know Greg is a Greg and not a Gregory.)

But this really is a piss-poor system. It, for example, says nobody in the U.S. has the first name of Liam. I personally know three and they are all born and bread Americans. It isn't an uncommon name at all. (Unlike my sister, Arrin, which I still assume is a spelling that resulted from my mom's shock at an unexpected home birth, and also doesn't show up.)

Prudence 10-24-2006 09:39 PM

My last name isn't *that* uncommon. There are always a couple in the phone book. It's common enough that someone once accidentally picked up our photos back when one had to actually have film developed. And neither they nor my immediate family is related (that we know of) to the well-known music store in Seattle bearing our last name. Bunches came over through Ellis Island. It's apparently a somewhat common name in its country of origin. And yet, it doesn't appear on the site.

wendybeth 10-24-2006 09:49 PM

There are four in the US with my name. I'm kinda bummed- I thought it was relatively unique. Then I felt sorry for them.

Not Afraid 10-24-2006 10:21 PM

40 people in the US share my name. I'm actually surprised by that.

€uroMeinke 10-24-2006 10:29 PM

I'm the only one (in the US), but I'm also a film maker in Germany according to Google

BarTopDancer 10-24-2006 10:30 PM

Much like Tiggers; I'm the only one!

You got the middle name right.

sleepyjeff 10-25-2006 09:41 PM

I am one of 355(using my full first name Jeffrey not Jeff)....which I find a tad low(I have a fairly common last name). When I was at the DMV a few weeks ago there were 37 people with my same name first and last just in the State of Oregon. I also have to tell people at my doctors office which Jeffrey (middle initial)(last name) I am, using my birth date as there are two of us with the eact same name right down to the period after our middle initial. I just don't think this database is very accurate. How could 1/10 of all the people with my name live in a reletively small state like Oregon?
