The Doors - Perception
I'm not sure how many people here are into The Doors, but there is a new box set coming out: Perception.

Also, there will be live events with appearances/performances by the surviving members of The Doors Quote:

I believe The Doors have been doing shows a lot in recent years. I remember a while back when they were hunting for someone to sing and found a pretty good replacement.
I've always dug them, some amazingly timeless music there :) |
Ray Manzarek is just an incredible person to talk to - I was introduced to him by a friend from work, and he is so happy to tell a youngster like me about the wild times and music of not only the Doors, but Hollywood/So Cal of the 60s.

Tangentially related, and I'm not sure when this will be ... but coming up sometime soon (and I'll find out when) from the Hollywood Storytellers organization ... will be a special screening of the movie The Doors featuring a Q&A afterwards with Oliver Stone and Val Kilmer.
Other entries I've recently seen in this series have been interesting, so I'm planning on attending ... whenever the date is finally announced. |
So, I found out that - in addition to Stone andl Kilmer...other participants will include Kyle MacLachlan, Kathleen Quinlan and original Doors band
member John Densmore. The date is Wednesday, December 6, 7:30 pm - at the Chinese 6 in Hollywood. Tickets may be hard to come by, because supposedly Val Kilmer has bought out a good portion of the theater. If you'd like to buy tickets, there's a paypal link at the bottom of this page, but it's been functioning sketchily all day. This sounds like a great event ... but, ugh, on a Wednesday night. It will likely go till 11 or 11:30. School night. Bah. |

The Doors are one of the few musical groups about which I have a strong opinion.
Off topic completely, I'll just say that Val Kilmer is in Deja Vu (the new Denzel Washington movie) and I'm amazed at how chubby he he is. Up there with John Travolta a few years ago. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with getting fat (I excel at it) but I was surprised. Queue joke about him renting the theater so that he'll have room to sit. |
