CARS on DVD
I picked up CARS on DVD the other day and I am extremely disappointed.
The film is great. One of my favorite Pixar films and one of the best movies I saw this year. My issue it the DVD release is only 1 disk that contains the film, deleted scenes, previews of upcoming releases, One Man Band short, a new Mater short, and a 15 minute "Inspiration for Cars" interview segment. And THAT IS IT! No commentary, no music videos, no segments on the technology or voices or NASCAR or NOTHING! I suspect sometime in the future there will be one so they can make everyone repurchase the movie, but this is just ridiculous! WTF DISNEY!???! |
*shrug*
As the years have gone by, I've found myself less and less interested in DVD bonus material. As long as it's a good transfer, widescreen, and has decent sound, I tend to prefer that they keep the price-point lower and dispense with the extras that I never watch anyway. I don't need to pay an extra $5 to play a trivia game and listen to the sound editor describe the scene I'm watching. |
Did you buy the regular or the package with the cars with it? Could that have more on it?
I didn't buy the special edition. But I did get a poster. Gosh, they have almost everything for this movie. They even had a really cute little digital camera that I think hooks to your keychain? $20. Not too bad for a fun little gadget. I didn't get it though. |

Really? For the regular??? The bonus package at Best Buy was $29.
Aw, I remember when we used to collect the lithographs from the Disneystore. Alas, we don't go to the mall much. I do have a nice collection from years ago, though. Flags? |

Can't find a pic of the back. Saw one a while back. Here's an Amazon.com review http://www.amazon.com/Cars-Widescree.../dp/B00005JNS0 |

Like GD, I'm more interested in a fine quality print and in widescreen than you very much.:) |
That is a bit disappointing, the widescreen/fullscreen. A lot of
Disney movies only have full. The Little Maid, I thought it said something about a game? I never saw it. Did I misunderstand or just not find it? Just to let anyone who is interested know; At Target they have it for $15.99 or $19.99 with a bonus DVD. Not sure what is on it but darn I didn't get it. |
Has anyone besides me stopped purchasing DVD's all together?
I figure I'll jump to one of the two hi-resolution formats in a couple of years so I just can't see the point in purchasing the now old dvd format. It makes me wonder if we are going to see a slowdown in DVD sales or if it's just me. |
It's just you.
And a few other early adopters. Certainly, no one is going to buy into HD heavily until either BluRay or HD-DVD come out the winner. Even then, to most folks ... they increased picture quality is really not all that worthwhile a goal. DVD is just too new for most people to abandon, and it is foolish of media corporations to think everyone's just going to throw away the DVDs they've amassed over the past measley 6 years or so. I won't be able to afford a hi-def TV till 2012 or so, so I really could care less about hi-def movies. |
I know my son would love to switch over.
If he does, I shall amass a wonderful DVD collection!! Muahaahaaa!! {for a tidy sum, to be sure} |
I'm not sure I'm going to buy Cars. I liked it, but not incredibly much. I think it's the only Pixar film I liked that I saw only once in theaters. So I'm clearly not enthusiastic about it, and I think it will be only the second Pixar that I don't end up owning.

I got a two DVD set at Walmart- the main Cars fullscreen DVD and a second disc with the video of Life is a Highway, the making of the song, and a couple specials- one on the music and on on the movie.
It was $20 |

After seeing the trailer for Meet the Robinsons, I'm not sure how well that will go. Disney, non-Pixar CGI. I do love the look of Todayland in the preview. Back to Cars, I do wish there had been a little more to the DVD extras. I wonder if that had anything to do with the Disney/Pixar rift in the last days of Eisner that caused less to be put into this? I'm not sure how far in advance any of this stuff is planned for the DVD releases. |
I'm just glad that now there's a chance we may actually see it.

Nope.

Hmm, color me misinformed

We never got to the theater when it was out.

I sense I'm in the minority here, but I didn't think it was much good at all. Some great animation with the grandstands at the track and mostly good voices, especially Paul Newman. However, the story was tortured, stretched and confused. Between the NASCAR worship and the fact that the deux ex machina was an oil company, I didn't think I was watching a kid's movie but some bizarre Leni Riefenstahl mountaineering propaganda piece in the culture war. I left feeling vaguely slimed.
