Each day, a victory.
Today I finally got an annoying wiring problem fixed. The receptacle under the sink was iffy, causing the dishwasher to stop midcycle. I had tried before to swap in a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) receptacle. They're for use near water. Thing is, apparently you can't do that with a split circuit, where one outlet is for the disposal switch. It took me two seperate days under the sink to figure it out. Today I bought a normal one and that went in fine, so I put the GFCI in an outlet near the sink.
Yeah, I can say all that in a paragraph, but all together, including meddling with the breaker box, putting in the wrong thing, taking it out, putting it back in, taking it out again and putting in the right one....I'm sure I spent at least 5 solid hours on it, including probably 3 hours in uncomfortable positions under the sink. I've learned a lot. What did you learn/fix/change/achieve today? |
I learned I am totally in awe of your (1) tenacity and (2) skills.
:snap:  :snap: All I can do, electrically speaking, is install dimmer swtiches and change the outlets to grounded outlets and I know where the fuses are! |

I purchased a new flashlight and installed the batteries.

Finally hired a cleaning lady. Our heads and the wall are already starting to heal.

I learned that "enriched" bread, pasta, etc. is not at all enriched, but rather, depleated of what made the foods good in the first place. Watched an excellent, excellent special on Discovery Health called "You on a Diet," and found it very inspiring.
Now, to have a slice of cheesecake. (But, wait! It's OK. It's vegan tofu cheesecake that I just made from scratch this morning.) |
Tofu cheesecake?
 |
I'm much better off when I aknowledge that I am a hedonist

I cleaned out the filter in the pond pump today.

Turns out that someone made use of a "convenience check" that Bank of America sent to our old address (mail no longer forwarding) and made off with $8,000. This happened in April, we learned about it yesterday (it was on a card Lani hadn't used since 2001 and forgot existed).
That's what I've been fixing. |

Earlier this week I: 1) Took my wife to the Dr. to remove a growth on her arm for bioptsy, resulting in 3 stitches. 2) Took my Daughter to the Dr. to get an ultra sound done for abdominal pains. 3) Took my son to the oral surgen to have two impacted wisdom teeth removed. 4) Picked up 12 prescritions from Rite-Aid. On the same day!  |
I have successfully avoided killing anyone so far today. Although I have sent a large number of crickets (50-60 - average per day) and worms to their demise.
|
I didn't fix anything today, but I didn't break anything either. :)

I learned that I really can't sit in a restaurant next to someone with a tiny screaming baby sitting alone in it's carseat without making loud comments to the person I'm with how horrible it is that they don't just pick up their baby.
And I'm learning how to knit! I have to do ten scarves by xmas! |
We cleaned the house today. Then I went to pick-up the dry cleaning and did the grocery shopping. Pavillions now has the frozen crab cakes that I love, but haven't been able to find anywhere for ages. That's a small victory, isn't it?
Oh, and tonight we're going to a dinner party at a friend's swanky MCM house that’s perched at the top of the Hollywood hills. |
ummm... I solved Brenna's problems today (she is the event coordinator/wedding planner for a very large and exclusive country club here in town). She called me 4 times over the same wedding. First it was to make sure the stage was being delivered. Then it was missing csoup spoons that were not on any of her 7 orders. Later it was missing 30 chairs (she was only missing 12) and finally she couldn't find the 5' bar we sent over yesterday. She refused to talk to the more experienced person I was working with, only wanted me to fix her problems.
After I got off work I took boy out to lunch and had a nice visit with a friend while drinking a tasty beverage. Then it was off to Cingular for 2 new phones and to increase the minutes on the rate plan. Now it is time to relax and prepare for Nick and I to head to DLR in the very early morning hours tomorrow. |
Didn't go out after all. Bill's allergies kicked in this afternoon, and he wasn't feeling well enough to go. :(
|
I worked today after 4 hours of Extreme Fun...
Work was on autopilot. |
Oh, and yes, everyone is doing ok.
So far. *Crossing Fingers, knocking on wood, and rubbing lucky coin* |

I brought several bags of books to work for our used book sale fundraiser. I have two more bags to bring before the end of the month. Why are books so damn heavy?
I finally got the old Game magazines halfway to the recycling center (that is, they're now in the trunk of my car). For some reason I felt the need to hang on to them so every other time I found them in the hall closet I just put them back. I'm dealing with a condo full of stuff like that so I have to celebrate these small victories to keep myself going. |
Last night - a few more people saw the place. Had our first guestroom use too. Today - my parents are on their way over. I'm feeling like a rock star.
|
I found a dress for my party. - this was a huge victory.
And had a very interesting night last night. |
I created a display of Swedish Meatballs in the freezer section of my department...I guess that sort of counts for something...LOL!

Ken and I are redecorating our place (furniture-wise). We've been inspired by the "hobbit" homes as shown at www.bendshire.com, and we want that look for our living room.
Seeing as we neither want to move to Oregon, nor have $800+ to spend on a house, we figure we can start the "transformation" now, eventually ending up in our own property, hopefully later next autumn. We want it to be a bit rustic and wooden (even though there will still be Disney collectibles all over). So, we've started with the furniture. With the aid of wedding giftcards and cash, we purchased an awesome new dining table set from Target. Gone is the old "wood" finish particle board table and chairs that I've owned for over a decade! And, it's versatile - it matches with the current Enchanted Tiki Room decor, until that is once again relocated to the patio once we have our own place. For the living room, we purchased a second-hand entertainment center, via Ebay. It just got delivered this morning, and is gorgeous! Gone is the old Ikea-style black one. (Well, not gone yet - if anyone wants it, it's yours! Just come get it. ;) ) I am reupholstering our ugly sofa (it's in great shape, but the fabric is horrendous), and will also redo the free recliner that we acquired with the entertainment center. In addition, we're going to hang long drapes in front of our ugly vertical blinds and I'm latch-hooking a custom-designed Celtic rug. (Yes, I actually have crafting time again. ;) ) So far, it's getting there. :D |
Very cool, DP!:snap:
I mentioned Bendshire at work a while back and found out that my co-worker's daughter was involved with that project. If ever I win the lottery, I'm soooo buying one of those homes! |

Every day I write the book...
Actually, today (and this weekend), I learned: That I can move on from yesterday. That when I'm right, I might be a little wrong. That even when I really, really, really think I'm right, I might be really, really, really wrong. That assumptions are natural, believing in them isn't necessary. That I'm a very lucky girl. And that time is short. Live large. |
We finally got the courage to tackle the disaster that was our "Harry Potter closet" under the stairs. It was surprisingly painless to get organized once we found an alternate solution to the shoe rack that was taking up way too much space in front.
On a related note, I built a new shelf for shoes into the closet under the stairs. Came out perfectly. |

I got to work this morning and found that my obnoxious boss has been demoted... :snap:
|
While I did not personally replace the no-longer-functional electrical outlet in the powder room (the one was stuck in "test" mode and rendered our master bath outlets also non-functional), I did figure out a way to get it replaced without having to have my dad come up and do it, which would have guaranteed a lengthy lecture on everything I'm doing wrong in my life: ask my brother to do it! Outlet replaced, no one electrocuted, and no lectures!
