I subscribe to KCRW's "Today's Top Tune" Podcast. Great podcast, one song a day from some artist they're featuring. And it's just an mp3 of the song, no introduction or advertisement.

What I'd like to be able to do is, if I like the track, to have it show up in music rather than as a podcast and I can't figure out how. I've changed the artist and title and I've changed the genre from "podcast" to "alternative" on one file, but it's still showing up as a podcast.

Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do, or is this a copy-protection thing that prevents me from doing it?

I just downloaded the newest iTunes and haven't had a lot of time to play with it, so this may be silly, but have you tried to drag it out of your podcast library and into your music library?

Yes, and it just showed up under podcasts again.

Humm.. Only other thing that may work is burning it and then re-ripping it.

What about just copying it instead of dragging it? Then changing the info?

Or is there a copy as/save as?

Again, I don't know a lot about the iPod/iTunes.

Is a chance you can pick the song out on a banjo? If the answer is yes, then play the song into a tape recorder. If you have a friend or family member nearby, have them play the tambourine and/or spoons. A little imagination and some household objects can go a long way in producing the sound required for the melody. When its done -- you have your favorite song on a cassette that can be played in your car, home system or Walkman.

The info is embedded in the file. So this won't make a difference.

I believe that you will need to hack the file somehow. I believe that because of copyright issues, there probably won't be an "official" way to make this conversion.

I was surprised that some cd's that were given to me {burned} actually bring up all of the info.

Tref, dang it, I sure wish I could transfer my LP's to the pod. And, I do have tons of cassettes as I just only last year acquired a cd player in my vehicle.

Kevy, do you know about uploading videos? To iTunes? I have a short one from my camera and want it on my pod {snow}. I've browsed around and it doesn't explain it clearly, except the kind you buy and upload off of the computer. I don't want those.

It's one of those things that is so simple, that nobody tells you how to do it. But if you don't know how, it isn't that simple.

Assuming you have the file on your computer as an .mpg, ,mpeg, .mov, .wmv, or .avi file (there may be more acceptable formats as well, but that should cover the majority of them), simply go to the File menu and select Import. Find the file and voila - it is in iTunes. From there you can transfer it to a video capable iPod.

It is doable, but you need at least a working turntable. There are a couple of ways to do it. I think we had a discussion here on LoT about it - I'll see if I can find that.

I think I tried that. It didn't show up. I will try again. And again. Until I get it. Thanks for the instructions, at least I now have the way to do it, however how long it takes me at least I am going in the right direction. :D

Wow, that is an old thread! I'm even on there! I do have a turntable that works and is hooked up as well....hmmm...possibilities...

And, it must be so nice to not have to carry around LP's. When we'd move and have to cart the crates full they were heavy!!! At least now they hold the bookcases down and in place. :D

Why don't you make a playlist and drag the tracks you like into there?

Actually, that info isn't kept on the CD. iTunes contacts a service (Gracenote) and sends track info (# of tracks, track length, overall length, etc) and Gracenote tries to match it up to a known database. That's why burned CDs work, because it's not stored on the original CD.

Because I want the tracks to show up under the regular "music" listing so I can find them by artist instead of always having to go into "podcasts" to find them.

Oh, and there are other services than Gracenote that are better at identifying individual and obscure tracks (I'm hoping mentioning this will conjure Mousepod as he was using one that he was impressed with).

I want to import my Christmas CDs and create a playlist so I can enjoy them until the holidays are over. But is there a way I can keep them from playing when I use the Shuffle Songs option? I haven't imported the Christmas stuff yet because I'm afraid of having "Jingle Bell Rock" show up in July.

You can either delete them from your iPod after the holidays are over (one way is to uncheck the tracks and set your options to only upload checked tracks to your iPod). Or, you can do like I've done and create a smart playlist that excludes certain songs based on criteria you select. I have one playlist that excludes holiday songs and classical songs, but everything else from my library is uploaded, and it is continually updated as I add songs to my library.

I believe the new iTunes has a "skip during shuffle" option on the tracks.

Well that would be great. I have uploaded my sons 'Joanie Bartell' cd from when he was a wee lad, they are pretty and relaxing.

But not good when you are running on the tread mill and need a song that will make you run fast!

Here would be a good place to mention that my iPod up and died on Tuesday. I'm sad and the iPod's sad. I can tell, because the sad little iPod face has x-es where the eyes should be.

Anyone upgrading and need to find a loving home for an old iPod?

The exact same thing happened to me. One day, I had an iPod. The next day, I didn't.

I have to get around to bringing the Discman back into the car. :(

How long would downloading the new iTunes take on dial-up, do you think? (I've been telling it to remind me later for months.)

Will downloading it make everything automatically move over and the old software go bye bye? Nothing would get messed up, right?

If I tell it to download at 6:45 AM, would it be done by the time I got home from work?

Or should I just stick with the "it ain't broke, so don't fix it" theory? If I do, will that jack things up later when it is broke and I HAVE to update? (Would that even happen?)

It's not too terribly big, it will definitely take less than a work day. The upgrade is seemless, it shouldn't be a problem.

So DG... did you ever get a workable resolution to your problem?

I'll probably just collect a bunch of them, burn them, then re-rip them.
