New Tales of the City Book
For any Tales of the City fans… I just found out that Armistead Maupin has a new book coming out this summer. Michael Tolliver Lives! focuses on "Mouse" and how his life is at 55, living with HIV.
If you’ve never read the original “Tales” books, I highly recommend them. They’re incredible. |
I love the "Tales" books. I'm totally going to read this one when it comes out.

Hooray !! Mrs Madrigal will be 100 !!! :D

BTW this visit to San Francisco, I want to go see Macondry Lane (being the one they used for Barbary Lane, I believe)

I was an extra in the British TV production. When it finally aired, I couldn't watch it. The scenes of life before so many of my friends died of AIDS were too hard to sit through. Years later, I was able to sit and cry through it.
I still haven't been able to watch Angels in America, and I stage managed a production of it! |

Didn't care for the second Mouse. :( He wasn't as warm as the first. More bitchy/trashy & I don;t remember his character changing that much through the books.

Ok, I loved the PBS series of the first set of books, but never have read any of these. So, how do these read in book format - weren't they serialized in a newspaper?
|
Whichever series had Laura Linney in it was the one I watched and really liked. I believe I read the first book, but never read any others. It is a rare instance where I like a film version better than the original lit.

I assume it's at the Jockey dance contest that Mouse enters - where he's sprung by Jon |
a long time ago, (in a far away land), i visited a girlfriend that i had met when she worked Magic Shop and I worked at Tobacco...
she lived in SF and had a new job... she suggested i read "this book", (Tales of the City) while she was at work and we would go out sightseeing when she got home. I read that book cover to cover!:snap: that night i bought all of the titles. i really enjoyed how Maupin intertwined real-life current events and landmarks with the characters and storyline. Quote:
the books have fast-paced short chapters. |
