My favorite Xmas song
Spurred by the posts in the Xmas thread, I decided to share my favorite Xmas song with you. I didn't want to post it to YouTube (I'm not sure who owns the copyright, but I know it's not me), so I just stuck it up on my .mac page for a more private viewing.
Feel free to download it, just don't tell a friend... Happy Holidays! Here's the link... |
Very nice.
My favorite is "Christmas-time is Here Again" by Vince Guaraldi. Is there a more beautiful Christmas song? I submit that there is not. |
Amen to both the above selections. I can't improve on them.
Where did that Kate Bush clip come from? There are so few live performances comitted to tape. (I'm anxious for the eventual Complete Saturday Night Live season box set that will include her American debut. As I recall, Eric Idle was the host that night.) I used to have "December Will Be Magic Again" as a 45, in a box set of Kate Bush singles, but does anyone know if it exists on CD or legit download? The studio version of this song is pretty damn enchanting. "Christmas Time Is Here" chokes me up every year. |
Love that Kate song. I've never heard it before.
But, yeah how boring of me, my absolute fave will likely always be "Christmas Time is Here." |
flippy,
The Kate video comes from her 1979 Christmas special. The studio version of the song was released on the first of the two bonus CDs in her "This Woman's Work" box. As far as her SNL appearance goes, that's floating around, too. I think there'll be a care package on its way to FL sometime early next week... |
"All I Want for Christmas is You" ~ Mariah Carey
"Linus & Lucy" ~ Vince Guaraldi Trio and "Good King Wenceslas" ~ by whoever... :) |
Tom Jones and Cercy Matthews doing "Baby its cold outside" and the strange Cocteau Twins version of Frosty the Snowman.
I also like Mojo Nixon's "Grinch". There's been a lot of really odd but good covers of holiday songs lately. Of course, there's been some really bad ones as well. |
My favorite is a tie between the Bing Crosby/David Bowie "Little Drummer Boy"
and "Christmas In Hollis" by Run DMC |

Whenever I see outfits like that, all I can think of is "what if she has to pee?" and I can't pay attention to what they're actually doing.

So many to choose from.
The entire Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack is a perennial fav. I'm with Flippyshark, I choke up at Xmas time is here, every single time. I love the sentimental fav White Christmas with the one and only Bing and I do have a fondness for the Chipmunks, as well. I run the gamut from silly to sacred, no Xmas in my house would be complete without King's College Choir and the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Then there is Santa Baby. |
I'm another who has always loved "Christmas Time is Here". It's an absolutely beautiful song.
I'm also a bit of a traditionalist however and would have call a tie between that song and the original version of "The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme. (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...) |
At the moment, the Xmas song most firmly lodged into my head is Riu Riu Chiu.

I also like Julie London's cover of I'd Like You For Christmas. Just recently I uploaded Ella Fitzgerald's Christmas album to my iPod. |
A couple of other oddball holiday tunes:
Child's Christmas In Wales, John Cale's musical take on Dylan Thomas. Elton John performing White Christmas at the Hammersmith Odeon, December 1974 |
That song by Kate Bush is pretty nice. I like the way it flows.
Is it just me, or does she sound a bit like Yoko Ono? ;) |
Click here to hear my new favorite Xmas song. Keep listening, it's full of surprises.

I am not amused...

After tonight, I'll have to add Loudon Wainwright III's "Suddenly it's Christmas".
Oh, and The Roches STILL do a mean version of the Hajaluah Chorus. Suddenly It's Christmas: Quote:

I still like the Mitch Miller "Must Be Santa" song that Not Afraid told me about last year and then I told her about after forgetting that she was the one who told me about it in the first place.

Two thumbs up. :D |
Ach, I can't listen to the original link!
While I looove Guaraldi's soundtrack, my heart's with Judy Garland's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." That song just hurts. |
I refused to keep listening after about 30 seconds. Heavens!
|
Fav's for me:
"This Christmas" - Chicago (naturally) "Christmas Song" - Mel Torme or Nat King Cole "Noel" "Silent Night" And all the songs used in Candlelight. |
