Battlestar Gallatica - The Series

And no, I don't mean the 1970's Star Wars/Star Trek rip off. I mean the new and revised show on the Sci Fi channel.

If you haven't seen BG, I can't urge you enough to watch this dark, gritty, some times distrubing action/sci fi/drama. It's much more than your regular Sci Fi series.

So am I the only one who catches the show?

Alex 12-05-2006 11:40 PM

No. But I don't have Sci-Fi so I am restricted to DVD. This means I haven't seen anything from the new season.

That also means this will be the last time I open this thread since I've done a decent job of avoiding spoilers so far.

I watched the first season but it started to get a little too soap operish for my taste. If I see that its on when I am flipping thru channels I sometimes will stop and watch it for awhile......for awhile.

I liked the red LED-eyed Cylons better.

"By your command."

I've seen a little bit of the new version, but it seems to be all about cylons breeding with humans and alien babies. WTF?

 :(

I'm sorry, but I'm a purist of the original show. :p

Precisely why I hate the new show. ;)

Ok, I lied (about not opening the thread again).

The original was a fun bit of schlock crap for the 10-year-old me. The new one has depth, purpose, and a mythology with appeal for the adult me.

But other than the starting premise they really are completely different things (and in light of a different discussion, the existence of this "remake" could, if I were so inclined, devalue the original by showing just how much better it could have been) so I don't bother directly comparing them much.

I really did enjoy the original version when I was a kid. Course seeing it again, its sort of laughable but then it's just outdated.

But you are right, you truly can't compare them. It's a totally different animal.

I promise I won't post spoilers! I don't even know any.

On another Sci Fi note, I read recently that do to the popularity of the BS remake poplularity there may be a "Bionic Woman" series. BW would be more the corporate hero. Career women by day, supercharged chick by night. One hopes it just as original as Battlestar.

Exactly my frame of mind when looking for laid-back entertainment. ;)

Then again, three of my fave films are "UHF", "Dude, Where's My Car?" and "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle", so I'm sure that's not surprising. ;)

I've tried watching the new BG, but I was turned off after the first few episodes. It just seemed too serious and not campy like the original. And I love campy.

I've fallen behind this season so I'm gonna download the epiosdes from iTunes. The first and second seasons are examples of the finest series work ever to grace a TV screen. I love the show!

I like the bit where they hijack your tram in USH........

No, you are not the only one. It's a great show. And I don't use that word lightly. It is a very serious drama that just happens to take place in outer space.

I'll admit that when I saw the original pilot/mini-series, I was underwhelmed. However, I've been hooked since about the third or fourth episode of the actual series.

And, of course, the eye-candy doesn't hurt.

Gemini Cricket 12-08-2006 01:50 PM

I like this show as well.
:)

When Lee Adama got fat, I almost died! He had such a fantastic bod. Thank god for TV, he got fit fast! haha

innerSpaceman 12-09-2006 09:51 AM

I've heard nothing but great about BG, and I intend to rent the DVDs as soon as I can put aside time to watch three seasons of shows (i.e., a chilly day in Hell during a blue moon).

But I'd sure like to see it. (I cancelled SciFi when they cancelled Farscape.)

Alex 12-09-2006 10:27 AM

There's only two seasons of DVDs currently.

When I watch TV on DVD I try to stick to an episode or two at a time rather than watching a whole disc all at once. With Battlestar Galactica I pretty much broke the rule every time. I'd sit down intending to just watch one episode and end up watching all four on the disc. Good, good stuff.

mistyisjafo 12-11-2006 01:19 PM

I want to see the first season. I missed the first couple and for some reason I keep missing them when they replay! I put it on my DVR but I deleted on accident. Thank goodness for DVD!

I just watched the mini series on DVD last night. I loved the show as a kid and remember seeing the Movie that they released in theatres as a double feature with Superman the Movie. I enjoyed watching the MS and what they did with it. It isn't just another remake/rehash and I liked what they did with it. I am looking forward to watching the first season.
