Here's the coupon.

mousepod 12-19-2006 01:47 PM

I am soooo buying the new Humphrey Bogart box. Not only does it have the 3-disc Maltese Falcon special edition, but it's got two other flicks that feature the great Peter Lorre!

RStar 12-19-2006 01:47 PM

Thank you! :snap:

Disneyphile 12-19-2006 02:01 PM

Thanks! :D

SzczerbiakManiac 12-19-2006 02:10 PM

Title should read 12/19-12/20.
Mods, can this be corrected please?

BarTopDancer 12-19-2006 02:26 PM

Thanks!

Alex 12-19-2006 02:29 PM

Can you point to the source for that one? There are a lot of fraudulent or scam coupons out on the interwebs. This one isn't hosted by Border's and there isn't a Web site at the domain name.

I'm currently a block away from a Borders and would love to use it but don't want to unintentionally end up in scamming them.

mousepod 12-19-2006 02:43 PM

It's legit. I have a Borders Reward card, and received this link from Borders yesterday.

Ghoulish Delight 12-19-2006 02:48 PM

Imagine the savings.

Cool, thanks. I'm going shopping! (Which for me means I'll be willing to be in store for more than 10 minutes.)

Not Afraid 12-19-2006 02:52 PM

hmmmmm

HMMMMMMMMM!

Um, I think there may be a digit missing. ;)
no worries though :)

Alex 12-19-2006 03:46 PM

The cashier looked at me weird for having the coupon but no Borders card. But I survived his withering doubt.

Snowflake 12-19-2006 03:48 PM

 Many thanks!

This one slipped by me, an absolute must have!

SzczerbiakManiac 12-19-2006 03:56 PM

Love you mods!

Not Afraid 12-19-2006 04:06 PM

Even though we don't really have our act together? ;)

Alex 12-19-2006 04:13 PM

By the way, I now own 10 films chock full of Greta Garboy goodness.

^That just doesn't seem like an "Alex" sentence.

Alex 12-19-2006 04:40 PM

Why? Even though Garbo is 5/8ths of a chickpea I still like her.

Not Afraid 12-19-2006 04:44 PM

I wonder if they'll have anything I want if I dare go?

A Preston Sturges collection would be nice.
The Cole Porter gift set.

DANGER!

Mousey Girl 12-20-2006 07:36 AM

bleh'

I refuse to shop at Borders. The one here is disorganized and seems to hire people who don't know how to read.

innerSpaceman 12-20-2006 09:19 AM

My Borders was out of nearly everything by noon yesterday. I had wanted to pick up one of the James Bond sets, and they had zero of them. Lots of other popular sets gone, too.

But, with 40% off - - as their marketing predicted - - I couldn't leave emptyhanded ... and bought something I was interested in, but had no intention of purchasing when I walked in the store (the fantastic TV series Firefly).

Oh well, a $50 set for $30. Not bad.

€uroMeinke 12-20-2006 09:30 AM

We got Vol. 3 of the James Bond set and a set of Preston Sturges. I'm debating whether or not to go back for the Wim Wenders or John Waters sets.

innerSpaceman 12-20-2006 09:48 AM

Heheh, Vol. 3 of Bond is the best one (with all of the films in the set being good), which I'd already purchased at full price. Now I was going for one of the others, which contain a mix of good ones and crap ones. But for 40% off, I figured I'd just be paying full price for the good ones, which I'm perfectly willing to do.

Snowflake 12-20-2006 10:02 AM

Silly Symphonies Part II is now mine, mine MINE!

Now if I could find Part I and not get stuck for a huge wad O cash :(

Not Afraid 12-20-2006 10:06 AM

I'm really happy about the Preston Sturges set! Now, if I had more time...... And, the Bond set is the only one I probably would buy. The rest have too much crap in them.

Other temptations include A Cary Grant set, a decent Hitchcock set, A Kubrick set and the two Chris mentioned. However, I'll let him choose the next two if we go to get more tonight.

fyi - Target had the Firefly series for $19.99. I bought it for my friend who has only seen 'Serenity' and not the series.

innerSpaceman 12-20-2006 08:06 PM

I've been duped!!!!

Alex 12-20-2006 08:10 PM

But the one they're selling at Target has 2.3 seconds cut from the opening credits sequence and has a relooped score in episode 3.

Spoiler:
That's not true, but I'm trying to make it so you wouldn't have wanted the Target version anyway.

innerSpaceman 12-20-2006 08:44 PM

Heheh, I would have spent much more DVD money at Target, overall. They have the best prices on DVDs, and I am an addict. I try not to go in there.

As it was, I went into Borders for Bond, and walked out with something I didn't intend on buying when I walked in. DVDs are my junk, and I need an intervention or something. Netflix has stemmed the tide somewhat, but I really have to stop buying all these movies that I'll maybe watch twice before I die.

Stan4dSteph 12-20-2006 10:13 PM

Thanks for the tip! I picked up season one of Wire in the Blood!

Not Afraid 12-02-2007 07:57 PM

They're doing it again. New dates are 12/3 - 12/4. The coupon can be found here, but you need a Borders membership to get it.

And the best part is this:
The coupon and your Border Rewards Card are not linked.
So... you can print multiple coupons and use it over and over.
Just don't go to the same cashier twice or go to multiple locations.
Let's just say I know this cause I used to work there.
:D

Not Afraid 12-02-2007 09:21 PM

oooohhhhhhhhhhh

Alex 12-02-2007 10:12 PM

Yeah, I used it without a Border's reward card last year. Caused a bit of confusion with the cashier but he still gave it to me. But even if they hassle you can get a membership with fraudulent information (that's what I do for most loyalty cards).

MouseWife 12-03-2007 12:40 AM

ha, I have one printed up now. So, you said don't go to multiple locations or do? I think the Borders close to here doesn't have many registers, go figure?

But, damn it, what was the set I needed? This is great for X-mas. Yes, we are trying to keep it simple {the hints for the electronic piano are being ignored, sorry Son...} but we would like to gift them with things they really truly enjoy. Like, mmm, maybe we know them a bit?

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2007 08:46 AM

Go to multiple locations or to different cashiers.
:)

MouseWife 12-03-2007 09:15 AM

Thank you!! I'll leave a note for the kids to print some up, too, as we are out the door in five minutes to Disneyland!!! Wahoo!

{and since we are leaving late I have already told them we are getting up early and heading over to the park tomorrow morning, too.:mad: }

Yeah, that's what I want to read first thing Monday morning as I get into work. I wish I was there...
:D

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2007 11:01 AM

Don't forget. The coupon is for today and tomorrow.
Ding ding ding!

Ghoulish Delight 12-03-2007 11:06 AM

Will anyone blink if I sign up for the Rewards thing and then hand over the coupon?

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2007 11:16 AM

Nope. In fact, they like that. (They track how many Rewards Cards a cashier opens in a day, week, month etc. You get written up if you don't sign up a certain percentage. They also keep an eye on how many transactions you have and compare it to the number of them involve the members using their Rewards Card. Again, if they don't have a certain percentage, they're screwed. That's why they are so persistent in asking for a RC whenever you go there...) And the Rewards card is free. (Unlike Barnes where you have to pay to get one.)

As Alex was saying, I also used the coupon without a Rewards Card.

Ghoulish Delight 12-03-2007 11:28 AM

Amazon.com is also having a box-set sale right now. Up to 30-50% off a lot of sets.

Not Afraid 12-03-2007 12:10 PM

I stopped by Borders after taking people to San Pedro. I didn't buy anything. Yet.

Ghoulish Delight 12-03-2007 04:37 PM

I went at lunch and was tempted by:

Complete 16-disc set of Monty Python's Flying Circus
Arrested Development complete series set (not on the shelf, but available at Amazon for $55)
Anamaniacs
Coen brothers set with Fargo, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Raising Arizona, and Blood Simple. And considering we own Blood Simple already, this would be a really good deal were I to subsequently sell that copy of Blood Simple.

At the very least, I'm likely to buy one of the Animaniacs sets as a gift for someone.

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2007 04:48 PM

Lame.
I went to the Glendale Borders and it looked like all the glass cabinets with their DVD Box Sets had all been picked through. No 'Sex in the City', no 'As Time Goes By', no James Bond...
But they did have the Pedro Almodovar box set. Tempted.

innerSpaceman 12-03-2007 06:22 PM

I didn't see anything I liked. I can't be tempted to buy something I don't want, even at 40% off - which, at Borders, only brings things to the price I might remotely think they're worth.

The only thing that remotely tempted me was the entirety of Monty Python's Flying Service, but I decided not to spend $60 on something I'd likely finish watching in 2013.

Not Afraid 12-03-2007 09:09 PM

The Hitchcock set I DO want is already cheaper at Amazon. I may get the other Hitchcock set at Borders - if I get around to it.

Alex 12-03-2007 11:37 PM

Me wants.

Stan4dSteph 12-04-2007 08:20 AM

Not sure I'll use the coupon. I am annoyed by the Borders policy to only offer the coupon value off of the original price, so if the set is already on sale, you don't get the full 40% off the sale price.

Ghoulish Delight 12-04-2007 02:02 PM

Got the Coen bros. set. I'll be going to a different Borders after work to pick up one of the Animaniacs volumes as a gift.

Says you...I got sh*t from grumpy cashier lady. She eventually went ahead and did it, but not before an accusatory, "Where'd you get that coupon?" and a grumpy, "If my boss sees me doing this..." under her breath.

Interesting. You're actually helping her numbers and she's mad at you. Nice.

Morrigoon 12-04-2007 02:37 PM

"Tell you what, I'll save you the trouble of signing me up."

(What you could have done. Of course, it would require walking away and getting it another time)

Or call over the manager. Tell him/her that you got grief for signing up for their Rewards program. That would have ticked me off...
:D
