Has anyone eaten Leatherwood Honey ?

I'm looking at something nice to bring over for everyone to try, and Leatherwood Honey from Tasmania has a really unique flavour.

Is this something you can get in the USA ?

Leatherwood honey? From a lashbear? I'd be suspicious... :p

I've never heard of it. What sort of bees make this? (I admit, the name conjures up quite an image.)

Sounds like the name of a hermaphroditic B & D porn star.

No, that's Honey Leatherwood.

Strangler Lewis 01-07-2007 09:13 PM

I think both names are used depending on which attribute is being emphasized. I note that the title of this thread, "Has Anyone Eaten Leatherwood Honey?" sounds like a late '60s spoof porn movie title.

Leatherwood Honey could be Lemony Snicket's adult fiction nom de plume.

No, but I'm a big fan of fir tree honey, any resemblance?

wendybeth 01-07-2007 10:55 PM

I'm thinking you've hit upon a great item to bring over, Lash.:D

Do you mean Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey?

Spicy and deeply complex, this honey has been supporting the export economy of the small southern Pacific island of Tasmania for over 100 years. Blossoming from huge trees which can grow to 100 feet, the white flowers of the Leatherwood tree are the source for 70% of Tasmania's honey. Leatherwood honey is appreciated the world over for its unique flavor and heady, floral aroma.

No, I've never heard of it before.

Sounds interesting! Do you plan to bring to the meet at the hub and we will all stick our finger in the jar and lick it? ;)

Leatherwood Honey - I could see the US ads with Judas Priest's "Hellbent For Leather" as the theme song :)
