Sea World
Bill and I are going to Sea World this weekend. Neither of us have been for at least 10 years. Any tips, suggestions, must see/dos?
|
Which Sea World?
|
Silly me... Sea World San Diego, right?
Hours for Saturday and Sunday - 10a.m. to 6 p.m. Attractions closed: Skytower Penguin Encounter (Indoor closed. Magellanic Penguins open for viewing.) Seal and Sea Lion Feeder Pool If the weather is good, and you don't mind getting doused, Shipwreck Rapids is a really fun, really well themed rapids ride. I personally love the Sky Ride at Sea World - it's especially nice just before sunset. |
It's also got one of the last sky bucket rides (besides the one at the zoo)
|
What I enjoy is the movie. I think Christopher Lloyd is in it?
Is that still there? |

Thank you. :)

The last time we were there was about 14 years ago/ We saw black and white dolphins mating. VERY interesting! I highly recommend it.

By coincidence just this last weekend Lani and I visited Sea World Orlando for the first time ever (three days at Disney World and we never entered a Disney park).
Didn't go on any of the rides so can't comment (and am not sure if they translate). Enjoyed the dog and cat show even though it was really simple. Just fun to watch those and wonder why my own pets never do cool tricks. I'm ambivalent about the degree to which the animals are subjected to constant human contact and feeding but most people don't seem to be bothered by that so you'll probably find it cool to make a sea lion beck for sardine. The Arctic Encounter motion simulator ride was lame (I think they have this at San Diego as well). Oh, bring hand sanitizer so you don't have to wait in long lines for the sinks. |

I didn't go on it so I declare them equally good.

It is really really good, lashBear. I have waited in a long line to see this. And I don't wait for much.
IMO {Oh, and I don't wanna tell you what it does 'cause then you won't be surprised, will you???} |
Shamu?
|
San Diego's Shamu area is must better than Orlando's. The shows themselves are kind of boring (they jump out of the water, then they do it again, and then a few more times) but at least at San Diego things are set up so that you can see them in their normal pools just swimming around which is much more interesting (to me anyway).
At Orlando you can only see them when performing. |

....I know, I'm a wuss. :D |
Cmon, Mousewife,.... I'm dying of curiosity now. and I don't want to have to ride it with my knees up at my shoulders like I did in Shrek 4D !
|
Oh, well, in that case...
I was going to post last time that I enjoy it while I really don't enjoy HISTA or Bugs Life. I can't promise there isn't anything that crawls by but I don't recall it at all being too unpleasant. Yes, mostly wind and water. And, it has movie theater seating. Comfy. Anyone else can comment.... |
Wellll..... that sounds OK - but I might need to hold someone's hand. Maybe I can get a copy of the script off the net or something...
Gosh, I'm a wuss's wuss, aren;t I? |

My only suggestion: bring a fishing pole and tartar sauce.
|
Hehehehe I've always gotten a cheap thrill by eating fish and chips at these aquarium based attractions. ALL of them have it, have you noticed? someone once suggested that's where the "slow learners" end up

We just checked in to the hotel - trying to decide what to do this evening. It's warmer down here than in LA.
|
If you can locate "Case De Pico" they have awesome mexican food. They used to be in Old TOwn but moved somewhere else.
Also, the Gaslamp district has great atmosphere. Movie theatre, bars and eateries. |
Oh man, this must be that yesterday you were in San Diego. Downtown?
I almost went to dinner in Old Town, the old 'Casa de Bandini' or 'Acapulco'. But, instead we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. Oh, and I am so happy to say they finally have Soundgarden items on display. I had complained before 'How can you have the Partridge Family but not Soundgarden at the Hard Rock Cafe????' {oh and I do love the Partridge Family....} |
We spent the day in Balboa Park today. I finally got to hear the Spreckels Organ!
|
I was going to say it was probably not so crowded at the park and how nice it must have been but then I saw on the news people being interviewed and it was crowded {seemingly} in the Gaslamp and some didn't even know there was a game or could have cared less!!!
I hope you had a great weekend in town. :) Wait, how was Sea World? |

What did you like about the park? |
The polar bears. I lurv me some polar bears!

Is that your own picture? Awesome!
|
Yes.
|
I love Polar Bears Too. :D
|
We did a sleepover a few months ago and got to sleep in by the Belugas and the Polar Bears. It was just incredible. The bears were in their dens most of the night but we got to sleep up next to the glass with the Belugas and you could hear them "talking" all night.

I bet the polar bears are loving this weather!
Please tell us more about your Sea World day, Mr. Bear. |

Seriously though, It was fun. We saw the Clydesdales, then did the Arctic thing - Beluga Whales, Polar Bears, Walruses. The Penguin building was closed, but they had some in a pool out front. Then lunch in the freezing cold at the Italian place (Why are there no indoor restaurants in Sea World?). By then, the sun came out. We saw the Dolphin show; we loved it. We saw the Sea Otters (they are so cute) and petted the dolphins (something I've always wanted to do). Then we spent an hour or so in the Hospitality Center - thawing out - before the Shamu show. The Shamu show... That was... weird. There were so many spiritual overtones (the boy who carves a wooden whale tail, and then practically orgasms when he sees a real one out in the ocean, for one) that we had the feeling that we were attending services at the Temple of Shamu. And when everyone started in with the odd rhythmic "Shamu, Shamu, Shamu" chant -waving their arms around like extras in a bad B jungle movie - I was expecting them to drag out the sacrificial virgin an second. Creepy.... Anyway... I have pictures from the trip, if anyone is interested. |

I second that. :D
|
The Shamu thing is rather creepy. Seems it's gotten even creepier since I was there as a kid.
