24 starts tonight!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Keifer /drool

innerSpaceman 01-14-2007 01:05 PM

Ya know ... I watched the first season in complete thrall. I didn't want Season 2 to get that strong a hold on me, so I quit at the first sign of silliness ... and never went back. By all accounts, subsequent seasons have gotten way better.

But if EVER a series called for waiting and Netflixing, giving me the ability to watch each "day" in quick succession - this is that series. So I think I'll skip season 2 entirely, and start to catch up with season 3.

BarTopDancer 01-14-2007 01:14 PM

I never saw season 1. I didn't want to get attached to a show that was going to go away mid-season (oh the hindsight on that one). One of these days I'll rent it.

Season 2 sucked me in (and my love of Keifer). Last season was just amazing. Waiting and watching on DVD is a great idea. I wish I had that much patience and willpower to avoid spoilers.

mmmmmmmm Keifer.

Did I mention I have a little tiny thing for Keifer?

/swoon

Babette 01-14-2007 05:41 PM

I love this show, but man has Jack killed a lot of people. His cell batteries never run out, the data is always transferred lickety-split, he can find ammo when his firearm is out, he has connections in government agencies he is banned from, and he always manages to keep his satchel at his side. GO Jack Bauer!

Cadaverous Pallor 01-14-2007 06:02 PM

Funny - GD reads Dave Barry's blog, and Barry is obsessed with 24....his running joke is that Bauer always shoots people in the thigh.

scaeagles 01-14-2007 06:51 PM

Can I get a boo-ya?

And it's possible to go from the San Diego vicinity to LA in less than 2 hours and anywhere in LA in less than 10 minutes.

Babette 01-14-2007 08:19 PM

Oh yea! He has super time travel speed :) GO, Jack, GO!

scaeagles 01-14-2007 09:08 PM

Well, in 2 hours, Jack has....

Spoiler:
been delivered from his captors the Chinese, cleaned up, been turned over to a terrorist, bit a man to death, escaped, rescued an alleged terrorist, and saved a subway train full of people.

The guy's a stud.

Spoiler:
Homage or not, that Lost Boys moment was great. He even had the same look. Tom is a weasel and I hope he goes away soon. Did the character relationship references bug anyone else? Chloe: "...your wife, I mean Karen Hayes...".

Ya he is. I can make him feel all better too.

BarTopDancer 01-15-2007 12:59 AM

Read this only after you have seen hour 1.

Spoiler:
Some new names for 24 (taken from varous sites):
Interview with a Bauer
The Lost Jack
Bram Stokers Jackula

He referenced the bite on Leno as something long time fans would find amusing. It's funny!

Cadaverous Pallor 01-15-2007 09:36 AM

We didn't watch it, but we did spend the evening mumbling darkly under our breath, ala Jack Bauer.

scaeagles 01-15-2007 09:26 PM

Anyone here happen to live in Valencia?

BarTopDancer 01-15-2007 10:55 PM

I think DisneyFan[bunches of numbers] does.
Spoiler:
Or did.

Poor Jack.

Anyone catch the 4 hour season opener? Look like a pretty good start.
Spoiler:
Though it seems like the new President is making every wrong decision. Also...apparently I would have just been killed by a nuclear weapon.

BarTopDancer 01-15-2007 11:10 PM

We're already talking about it here

Nice to see you're alive ;)

Cadaverous Pallor 01-15-2007 11:32 PM

DF - how silly of you to think a thread about 24 would actually be titled 24.

Totally.

I saw it. I can't believe they actually nuked LA. That was a serious "holy ****" moment.

scaeagles 01-16-2007 05:22 AM

Should have gone populist and set it off in DCA.

Right then. I actually looked for a 24 thread before I started this one, but wasn't able to find one. I'm too used to SA, where the threads have to have what you are posting in the title or you are banned :)

What's SA?

I like this thread better, anyway, so there!

mistyisjafo 01-16-2007 11:33 AM

This four hour season opener was awesome. I don't want to give off any spoilers but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and at one point I was shouting at the TV and even had a few tears.

I don't object to spoilers being posted if the episode has already aired in its regular slot on the West Coast. Otherwise, I would post in spoiler boxes.

Kevy Baby 01-16-2007 04:24 PM

You can ALREADY purchase the four-hour opener!!!

Fox (it is on Fox isn't it? - I don't watch the show) wanted to keep it under wraps that this was coming out as they didn't want to jeopardize the ratings.

Bloody brilliant though to do this.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-16-2007 04:47 PM

They blew up LA? Really? How awesome is that! :snap: I love when a fictional story gets some balls and does something really outrageous. Now I kinda wish I saw it. But only kinda

They nuked Valencia, to be exact

And Kevy, the episodes were on the net a good 2 weeks ago..and the news of the dvd was leaked around the same time ;)

And SA is the SomethingAwful.com forums

I agree, great idea! What would be great is if it's available to rent too.

Stan4dSteph 01-22-2007 07:34 PM

Holy fvck!

scaeagles 01-23-2007 06:48 AM

Graham: "You're already hurting me."
Jack: "Trust me. I'm not."

Who else thinks that's really Jack's son and not his brother's?

He's such a weasel. Do you think Jack will kill him?

Also, were they calling him "Greg" or "Gray" as a nickname for Graham? I couldn't quite catch it. Sounded like Greg to me.

Quote:

I totally thought that too!

I can't wait until next week. Papa Bauer in the house!

Hummmmmmm.

More character story lines.

I agree! But that seems so obvious.

It was so great when Jack finally punched Gray in the face. When Jack showed up at Gray's door all I could do was yell at the tv "Punch him! Punch him!"

Best action shot was the copter stuck on the roof. :snap:

BarTopDancer 01-29-2007 08:11 PM

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 24 in HD. I better go get my drool towel.

Stan4dSteph 01-31-2007 09:50 AM

Now that it's out in the open that Graem is evil, I hope Jack gets to torture him in very creative ways.

I still can't decide if Jack knows Graem is behind last season or not...

Betty 02-01-2007 06:36 AM

I don't think he does. I think they've got some old baggage that is causing Jack's cold shoulder. Just wait until he does find out! That will be lot's of fun!

Well, I was hoping that Farmer Hogett wasn't evil. Poor Jack. He needs a hug.

BarTopDancer 02-06-2007 10:15 AM

Jack needs to go to my room. I can make him forget all about his bad day...

Every time he says "my father" I keep wanting to say that is NOT your father! I think it would have been really funny if they had cast Donald Sutherland in the role of Jack's dad. I half way expected it when they first showed the tall white haired man from the back.

sleepyjeff 02-06-2007 10:35 AM

Worse 24 in two plus years. I saw everything coming from who would be the technician(although, I must admit, the picture was a nice touch), to Graem admiting to the "lesser" evil to cover for his father, and I even predicticted about 10 minutes before it happened that his father would kill his brother.

I trust that this isn't a trend though. The show should start to pick-up a little bit, maybe not next week but certainly by the week after.

Still my second favorite show on TV right now....my fave is back Wednesday night:)

They tried to get him, but couldn't due to scheduling conflicts.

As far as the predictability goes, I kind of see your point, but still I'm always expecting that there will be a twist, so it's almost like "we knew you would think we'd do X, and then you'd think we would do Y, so we did X to trick you!"

That sounds really lame, but I kind of think that at this point, nothing on 24 is predictable, except maybe that Jack will yell a lot and kick ass.

I did not know that. It would have been really funny, albiet distracting after the initial humor wore off. Though I'm not sure how much more distracting then his non-dad dad.

The initial stuff always seems to be predictable on some level. I am thinking there is going to be a huge twist - though perhaps a predictable one (someone in CTU is working for Fayid). Maybe Morris really is a bad guy.

Wasn't Chad Lowe supposed to be on last week? And what happened to Rick(y) Schroder?

You're probably right. If I recall, early mid-season last year was kinda predictable too, then BAM!

Stan4dSteph 02-14-2007 05:40 PM

Things are not looking good for Milo. I think he might be next to take a dip in the Dead Pool.

Stan4dSteph 02-19-2007 08:10 PM

I think it would be fun to watch this show with a heart monitor on.

Next week:

Spoiler:
It's Grizzly Logan!

scaeagles 02-19-2007 09:24 PM

Holy Freakin' Cow. I didn't see that coming.

And you know what I'm still wondering? In the first episode when Jack gets off the plane, the Chinese guy says "your President paid a high price for him". What was the high price, and how will it end up playing into the season?

Stan4dSteph 02-19-2007 09:30 PM

What didn't you see coming? The reappearance of that guy? Unfortunately, I had heard he would return.

I am nodding my head at the "high price" comment. I've been wondering that too. That's destined to rear its ugly head at some point...

scaeagles 02-19-2007 09:31 PM

That is what I am referring to. I had not heard of his return, and am obviously shocked.

Yeah, I was annoyed when I read that spoiler. I think it was in TV Guide too.

I'm still waiting for Jack to have another emotional meltdown. First his brother and now his dad has betrayed him. Who's left? Do we know what happened to his mom? I'm guessing she died in his childhood, but I'm not sure it's been talkled about on the show.

scaeagles 02-20-2007 05:29 AM

Chloe? Maybe Chloe turns evil, too.

I highly doubt it. However, I have a feeling her covering for Morris may come back to bite her in the ass.

Kim might make an appearance I suppose, just to tell her dad that she still doesn't forgive him for faking his death. Got to twist that knife in a little deeper.

scaeagles 02-20-2007 07:31 PM

I was being sarcastic about Chloe.

sleepyjeff 02-21-2007 12:53 AM

The Logan thing shocked me too....which I am glad for as too much this season has been predictable.

Stan4dSteph 02-28-2007 09:39 AM

I wonder what the significance of Psalm 40 is? Maybe Logan is a U2 fan. :D

BarTopDancer 05-23-2007 11:00 AM

Am I the only one who was not super thrilled by the season finale?

Emo Jack is getting a little old. We have nothing to look forward to next season. Unless his dad got away. He could have rolled into the boat and no one would have heard anything with the explosions and choppers. Though there was a splash before the silent clock. I thought it was waves crashing. Maybe he did jump? And Chloe is pregnant? By Morris? Or someone else?

Story lines for next season

Is Jack Josh's dad?
Is Morris the father of Chloe's baby?
Is Jack's dad still alive?
Will Jack jump off the cliff?
Will CTU have yet another break-in?

It sounds like a soap opera.

Stan4dSteph 05-23-2007 11:13 AM

I liked getting to see a little more of Jack's humanity this season. According to the "Debrief" that is accessed via the AmEx website, Jack didn't jump, or if he did, he's not dead.

What about Cheng? That's something that can be carried to next season. I don't mind not having some sort of huge cliffhanger.

No, he was in the helicopter, and then taken to CTU. His last line was something like, "My people won't abandon me like you abandoned Jack Bauer."

I also think Jack's dad is dead. They showed a quick shot of him still sitting on the platform and he didn't look like he was going anywhere. We don't know for sure of course, because the Zodiac was still there, but I think that was meant to indicate he's most likely dead.

Your right! I'm still curious to find out what the "high price" the government paid for his release was.

Most likely.

I was only disappointed with the Cheng thing. When he said that, I so wanted Buchanen to say "Your people think you're dead."
