Comet in Broad Daylight!

For the first freaking time in my life we have a comet sitting at a brightness of magnitude -8.8 That's 40 times brighter than venus! Bright enough to be seen in BROAD DAYLIGHT!

and of course it's been totally overcast here for the last week. ARRRRRRGGHHHH!!!

Go out and look for it if you are lucky enough to have a clear sky.

This is truly one not to miss.

Gn2Dlnd 01-15-2007 11:59 AM

Comet? COMET!!!!!

Alex 01-15-2007 12:28 PM

I don't see it, but I'm sure it is there and am not being patient enough.

Have you tried looking outside?

Not Afraid 01-15-2007 12:32 PM

I looked for it yesterday but I only got a headache. I'll have to look later. The skies are crystal clear at the moment.

Ghoulish Delight 01-15-2007 12:34 PM

Almost too clear, I just went out for a look and was quickly blinded no matter how much shading of the sun I did.

Ditto. Nice day, though.

DreadPirateRoberts 01-15-2007 12:44 PM

The link Moonliner referenced said the best time to look would be at local noon, and that the comet would just be to the left of the sun, about 6 degrees. Since the sun moves at 15 degrees per hour, I think the sun is currently blocking the comet. I'd wait until after local noon, and take another look.

Wrapped up like a deuce, another runner in the night...

Are you sure those are the lyrics?

€uroMeinke 01-15-2007 01:14 PM

I just goy back from my wander and couldn't see it - oh well, at least I caught Halley's

Not Afraid 01-15-2007 01:16 PM

Do a lyrics search. I found at least 3 different "translations" - none of them were correct (as I know it.)

Strangler Lewis 01-15-2007 01:17 PM

This is how America will get conquered-with everyone half-blind from staring up at the sky looking for comet hoaxes. Hello, Kohoutek.

CoasterMatt 01-15-2007 01:19 PM

It's "cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night" on the Springsteen original

Not Afraid 01-15-2007 02:17 PM

Racked up like a duce another roller in the night.

Ghoulish Delight 01-15-2007 02:21 PM

Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night.

Alex 01-15-2007 02:22 PM

I looked at a daytime picture of it online. That's good enough for me. A bright dot in the middle of blue. It brings portends of doom, I'm sure.

(I'm a weird fan of astronomy; I love the subject and am very well read on it but have very little interest in actually looking at the stuff; I don't believe I've ever looked through a telescope...at the sky anyway).

Not Afraid 01-15-2007 02:27 PM

Perve. ;)

Kevy Baby 01-15-2007 03:04 PM

I am not kidding when I say that I thought the lyrics were "wrecked up like a douch..."

I grew up with four older sisters. It gave me a feminine perspective to everything.

Capt Jack 01-16-2007 10:41 AM

dumbest song ever...

next to Muskrat Love. Nothing beats that on the 'exactly how high WERE you?' scale.

Ghoulish Delight 01-16-2007 10:57 AM

Gee, my friend in Scotland hasn't had much luck seeing the comet either. I wonder why...

Brigitte 01-16-2007 11:17 AM

It wasn't clear to a lot of people.

DreadPirateRoberts 01-16-2007 11:24 AM

I didn't realize the deuce is referring to a deuce coupe

Moonliner 01-17-2007 09:45 AM

Woohoo!! The clouds are finally gone! Nothing but sunshine and a clear blue sky. :)

It's raining here now, yippy.

Not Afraid 01-17-2007 11:34 AM

BIG BLACK CLOUDS!!!!

Disneyphile 01-17-2007 12:29 PM

No kidding. I just looked out the window and there's some really dark crap rolling in from the coast.

Oh - we saw the comet clearly. "There's the comet," BT said on the way home from work last week.

It's not really sour grapes, in this particular case you SoCal'ers were a bit latitudinally challenged. While up here in the great white north we had a shot.
