The MousePod - MousePod #22 - the long-awaited Dumbo show
So here’s the scoop: last year, when I planned to do the Dumbo MousePod, I got a ton of primo tape for the show. And it sat on my computer. And sat. Call it procrastination, call it “podcast fade”… whatever the terminology you choose - it meant no show for you and a major roadblock for me.
Well, something happened (I’m not sure exactly what) and I got off my butt and finished the darn show. The tapes - including an excellent DVD review with Aaron of the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Pod and some great recordings featuring some familiar MousePod voices “on location” at Disneyland - were as good as I remembered. Even with all of this quality material, I admit that I found this show something I needed to “get through” before I could move on and do even better things, so I decided to record the whole thing “live” with no edits. I queued up all of the clips and the music, turned on the mic and just went for it. The result: you judge for yourself. Some of the levels vary wildly between clips - consider this a warning if you listen with headphones. The free association that can only come with bad notes and sleep deprivation is there in full force. But I think it’s a pretty good show. But I’m obviously biased. So, um, is something supposed to happen if you click that link?

Speaking of the technology, how do you like WordPress?
|
I'm loving WordPress. I installed MovableType on my site and played with it for a few months but never went live - there were too many awkward errors and lack of real community support. I was able to put the entire WordPress site together in less than a weekend - just about everything I wanted to do with the mousepod site has been doable - and with yesterday's release of WordPress 2.1 (and 2.2 coming in April) - it's only going to get better.

Cool. We just moved our old domain to a new host (same host as LoT) and at some point I want to sit down and give it a front-end of some kind to keep things like photo albums we upload and such organized and accessible. Looks like WordPress might do the trick.

Oh wow, it was worth the wait!
Sort of. I'm really glad to have the mousepod back, in whatever form. And it was neat to finally have the other shoe drop. (But, um ..... pssst, ditch the "live" format from the wee hours.) |
Oh, and a bit of genuine praise: Two of the rare musical selections were awesome: "When I See an Elephant Fly" and "Baby Mine."
I was familiar with the Sun Ra of Pink Elephants, so these other two really made an impression on me. Great finds. More music in the mousepods!! |
Yeah... I know that I tend to get a little nutty after midnight. The only benefit is the interesting tangents that I sometimes find myself on. I don't think I could have (or would have) made the Dumbo-->Freddie and the Dreamers<---The Jungle Book connection if I was in my right mind. And I'm glad I did.
BTW, I spoke with NA about the episode after the next, and I think you're going like the idea. |

My only complaint with the live at Disneyland part was the Dumbo ride, even with my earbuds firmly in place, I could barely understand anything Steve was saying, but I did get the sense of fun. Have you tried recording with an iriver T110? That's what I have used for on the spot podcasting and the quality was quite nice. I loved the musical selections as they were unfamiliar to me. I'll catch the SunRa video when I am home, as my sig line shows, I can't access mousepod.com from the office (the Nazis). :snap: for another fine episode of what I consider the most enjoyable Disney podcast out there. |
I actually use an iRiver (a different model, though), for all of my street recording. In fact, I even put an external mic on it for the Dumbo recording, and iSm was holding it directly to his mouth (I'm pretty sure you can hear him say, "I'll hold it" a couple of seconds into the recording. Sorry kids, he was referring to the microphone). The big problem with that recording was the wind. I'm sure there's a setting on the iRiver to dampen that sound, but that would have required us to repeat the ride - and iSm's spontaneous narration was just too good to try and replicate.

Great show. I always ask myself, "how can he talk about this for over an hour?", and by the end of the show, I can't believe an hour went by. You have a real talent. Visible MP mojo.

I am typing this for the sole purpose of submitting it to Quotes:
iSm: I could talk about it now if you want. It just doesn't seem as thrilling. |

I'm going to have to listen again, more closely. Regardless, I totally enjoyed the podcast. I thought he was referring to Dumbo's trunk. |
